glimse,

They’re just as surprised as me… So… Not surprised at all?

I only played it briefly at my nephew’s house back in the day but it actually seemed really janky. Was it actually good or was this just “omg GTA but with Simpsons I’m 11 and this is cool!”?

TheOgreChef,

The latter.

GeneralEmergency,

I remember watching a playthrough once. You could hear their enthusiasm drop part way through level 3.

It’s a game whose legacy is propped up entirely by nostalgia.

I’ll be honest, I thought the this was about Road Rage until they mentioned GTA. Was Hit & Run that popular?

You can't get it on Gog.com either.

I got this from GoGamer.com years & years ago.

DavLemmyHav,

Its probably too complicated to make a sequel cause of licencing and all that bureaucratic stuff

BroBot9000,
@BroBot9000@lemmy.world avatar

Maybe every single game doesn’t deserve a sequel or a remake.

Focus on making new games instead of complaining about not getting paid to produce nonexistent regurgitation.

joyjoy,

Hit & Run actually did get a fan remake in Unity.

Such a waste of energy. They should have made a new game so that they could sell it and not just get a lawsuit for their project.

joyjoy,

Time enjoyed wasting is not time wasted.

BroBot9000,
@BroBot9000@lemmy.world avatar

Fair enough but these fan projects are a waste. At best you get a cease and desist letter, at worst a lawsuit and all your work scraped.

Make an original game based on the concepts and mechanics of these games.

Why do waste time commenting when you could be learning how to use UE5 and make a game ?

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I keep telling myself the same thing… Damn this adhd! 😩

topinambour_rex,
@topinambour_rex@lemmy.world avatar

Creative coding is your friend. Look for p5.js . Instead to get the output in a cmdline console of your hello world, you will see it in picture you render. It is more exciting.

Once you understand basic principles, switch to a game engine.

Hope it helps.

Kolanaki,
@Kolanaki@yiffit.net avatar

I know a few languages to do stuff by hand; I’ve just been super curious about that flow chart method of providing logic that UE5 has. I originally started with things like Klik’n’Play and always thought the “code a thing without writing any code” was neat.

I just keep putting it off. Like how I also keep putting off learning how to play the guitar I spend $500 on. 😩

@topinambour_rex@lemmy.world avatar

I have adhd too ( adhd symptoms for be more precise, due to narcolepsy) So I can understand your struggle.

Maybe you could look for taking lessons with someone for the guitar.

Then you can’t imagine the number of games I started and gave up with unity.

BroBot9000,
@BroBot9000@lemmy.world avatar

I am. Humans are capable of doing multiple things throughout the day.

Alto,
@Alto@kbin.social avatar

Clearly doing so is a waste of energy.

Not every project’s goal is to make money. I’d argue that spending time learning now to remake a game that you personally love is not a waste of time. You get the thing you wanted (a remaster) and you’ve honed a skill.

BroBot9000,
@BroBot9000@lemmy.world avatar

If you actually are allowed to finish the project without getting sued up the ass. Sure.

You can learn the same skills making a game that’s inspired by your favourites.

Making a new game and selling it are two different things. You can make it and give it away for free like many do.

MomoTimeToDie,

They could’ve at least had an “accidental data breach” or something instead of just sitting on their hands telling everyone else how cool the thing they can’t have is
