Half-Life could have been called Crysis or Fallout instead, developer reveals

I was calling it Thinky McShootShoot based on the ads I remember seeing about the game in magazines. The ones that claimed Half-Life was more of a strategy/puzzle game where you’re using your brain more than your guns.

All those potential names listed sound terrible, I think Half-Life sounds terrible too.

Oh, c’mon. Fallout would have been great for the same reason it was for that game. It’s a play on words, with both nuclear fallout and the fallout on society of the war.

EDIT: Well, maybe not. Half Life had radiation, but not really nuclear fallout.
