I have some video files which have stereo audio tracks that were created from a mono source. I think the mono signal got sent to the right channel and not the left because when I created the files in OBS I forgot to select mono audio recording. When I play the videos all the sound is on right side only. Hope that makes sense…...
GIMP 3.0 should be out this year. If you’re interested, you can already use some of the new features (like true non-destructive editing) by running the development version.
I actually think that it wouldn’t take too many more people using GIMP for the name of the program to be considered the primary meaning of the word in English.
Cherrytree; nominally for making hierarchical lists but you can basically use it as a wiki for your entire life. You can theme it yourself too, if you think it looks too retro out of the box.
Syncthing, for keeping files synced between devices without having to use a server.
Qbittorrent, for getting files you need. Remember to install search plugins.
KeepassXC. Password manager (local, not on a server, use in combination with Syncthing).
Convertall, for unit conversions.
Calibre, for managing an ebook library, converting formats, removing DRM, transferring to ereader etc.
Rhythmbox, for music library, podcasts, internet radio.
Shotwell, for photo and video library. Easy to use, supports tags (metadata written to image files).
GIMP, for image manipulation. It’s extremely versatile, comprehensive and versatile. 3.0 is due out soon and will include non-destructive layer effects. Heavyweight piece of software, so expect a learning curve.
Ardour, for music production. Heavyweight, steep learning curve.
Flowblade for video production. Lightweight, easy to learn.
Libreoffice, desktop publishing.
Librewolf; privacy-focussed web browser.
Thunderbird; highly organisable email client.
Freetube, for watching youtube videos without all the ads and tracking. Local subscriptions and playlists, which you can export to use with Newpipe on Android. Also lets you download video and audio.
If you like the terminal also add:
ranger; file manager
newsboat; RSS feed reader
yt-dl; download videos from youtube and many other sites ;)
w3m; command line web browser. I like to use this in combination with newsboat.
Do people like Trump because he aligns with their politics or because in a simple way he expresses American identities of being irreverent, ‘straight talking’ and entrepreneurial? Just a thought as an outsider.
Pretty sure the UK has given green light to use its weapons on Russian soil. Macron keeps the option open to deploy French troops. US weapons are approved for use against unarmed civilians in Palestine.
Both are great but I find Organic better for searches and has a simpler UI (so a good replacement for google maps) but OsmAnd has more technical features and better for using offline, importing GPS tracks etc. I use Organic maps in the car and OsmAnd for hiking, cycling and sharing GPS coordinates.
I’m thinking about offering some workshops. My local authority has funds available for courses and workshops which benefit the community, aimed particularly at people on low incomes. It would be fairly basic stuff, like where to access free software, the advantages of it, some recommendations and perhaps even some introductory lessons on using software like Libreoffice, Thunderbird, KeepassXC, GIMP, F-droid, the Fossify suite etc.

This is exactly what they should do. But they won’t, because most of it is held in the City of London’s offshore boltholes. Seizing anything from them would scare the shit out of every big-time capitalist and corrupt politician on the planet. Would be good for us though.
I think that adding to this is people’s heightened perception of danger. You feel safer being higher up (which of course is a fallacy, as this article points out). If it was status and advertising alone driving these sales, I would expect to see sportier-looking cars selling more at the same time. I have also noticed more people using vans as domestic vehicles. Home security stuff seems to have boomed around the same time as well.
Interestingly, the most prominent group I can think of who still value small cars are boy racers.

Fuck yeah. Biggest employer in Europe NHS England needs to wake up and do this too. In one single licensing agreement they handed Microsoft £163.1 million. Imagine what that could do if spent on linux development instead, or heaven forbid on actual healthcare. It actually boggles my mind that the NHS doesn’t have it’s own distro and do its own development.
Yeah it’s a shame about that. I wonder if a customer the size of the NHS could make it worth releasing Linux versions of the software though. I mean, if I can get an appimage or flatpak of some small open source cross-platform project surely someone like Canon could release one for their new ultrasound stuff. Especially if they’re being offered an order to roll it out across an entire nations health service?
It would be pretty funny if they just ran it using Wine though!

The difference with kids is that we don’t consider them to have the ability to properly consent or take responsibility for themselves because they haven’t fully developed yet. Hence no voting, drinking, driving, sex etc.
