Hillary didn’t lose because of a cult of personality or a few swing states, she was just simply a shit candidate.
She had decades of accumulated hatred from Republicans. She had resentment from Obama Democrats regarding her behavior in the 2008 primaries. She had greater resentment from Sanders Democrats because of the way party leadership favored her in the 2016 primaries. She coupled that with a VP nominee that was to her right, as a slap to the face of progressives she had done her best to alienate. Then she didn’t campaign in key swing states that she went on to lose.
What I’m saying here is that she was not simply a shit candidate. Her shittiness was remarkable for its complexity.
Huh. Yesterday, I was told that this plan was endorsed by Israel. I doubt Biden was lying about it. Now it’s a nonstarter.
The Netanyahu regime is operating in bad faith in order to make Biden appear foolish and weak because Bibi wants Trump. Biden keeps playing into his hands.
That congress does whatever Netanyahu wants? They overwhelmingly voted against conditioning aid to Israel while Netanyahu was obviously committing a genocide.
The article you linked to indicates that Schumer’s invite to Netanyahu came after it was clear that Netanyahu was committing genocide:
Johnson first suggested inviting the Israeli leader, saying it would be “a great honor of mine” to invite him. That came soon after Schumer, who is the highest ranking Jewish elected official in the U.S., had delivered a stinging rebuke of Netanyahu. Schumer said in the speech that Netanyahu had “lost his way” amid the Israeli bombing campaign in Gaza.
Even so, Schumer had said he would join in the invitation because “our relationship with Israel is ironclad and transcends any one prime minister or president.”
Schumer invited Netanyahu AFTER the genocide commenced. I’m confident that my comment was not misinformation.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu will not agree to end the war in Gaza in exchange for the release of hostages unless opinion polls show it is politically advantageous for him, a top Israeli security official told the families of those held captive, a person in the closed-door meeting and an advocacy group said Friday. People who think Biden has a choice wrt Israel and Gaza are fucking clueless as to how powerful aipac is in the USA.
Wow. I’ve heard some absolute shit excuses for Biden’s support for genocide, but “We have to keep supporting genocide because the antisemites are right and The Jews do secretly run everything” takes the fucking cake.
Let’s say Biden stopped all aid to Israel tomorrow, you can bet you sweet ass that Trump will win by a landslide purely through all the Jewish votes suddenly transferring to him
Jewish voters are better people than you’re giving them credit for.
I can’t pin it on Biden, but Democrats had the majority in the House and Senate for the first 2 years of his presidency. They had the opportunity to protect LGBTQ+ people. The catch is that they would have had to end the filibuster forever. They chose to protect the filibuster.
There was a majority in the House, and it was 50-50 in the Senate. With Harris being the tiebreaker, that’s a majority.
I also remember the line from 2022 being “If you want to pass things progressives are clamoring for, we need more Democrats.” So we elected an additional Democrat. Then Sinema left the party. Then Fetterman was like “Sucker!” and sprinted toward the center. And now Manchin has left the party.
2 additional progressives and we could have told Manchin and Sinema to pound sand.
Please. We elected an additional progressive in '22 and wound up with two fewer Democrats and the progressive we picked up turned out to be a centrist.
It doesn’t matter how big a majority we give Democrats. There are always just enough Manchins.
We gave Democrats a supermajority. They killed the public option with it. They made damned sure to bail out their owners in the banking industry and make sure the only one of them who saw any consequences was the guy who scammed rich people. And had no interest whatsoever in codifying Roe.
And just like Biden’s first two years, they could have ended the filibuster forever with a simple majority, so your “four months” argument is just another pro-failure excuse.
When I criticize Democrats for getting so little of what they promise done, some apologist is quick to insist that the Democrats haven’t had a majority in the senate and that Manchin doesn’t count.
Now that someone’s saying that your god is imperfect, he’s crucial to what is conveniently a majority.
Once again, in the spirit of an actual constructive conversation, how would you get someone more progressive into a West Virginia federal senatorial seat?
Why is your arbitrary bullshit goal the one I need to meet before I can level any criticism at your god?
Manchin is leaving the senate because he knows he will lose if he runs again. Moving to the right has failed. Democrats have no one who can win they can run in that state. There’s none to Manchin’s right.
So who would you run for that seat? You can’t run Manchin, he can’t win anymore and even he knows it.
I would work on getting progressives elected in better states. Manchin is wet dogshit on his single best day, and it’s why centrists will always go to bat for him.
2008? When we gave Democrats a supermajority and they found enough no votes to kill the public option? When we gave the Democrats a supermajority and they didn’t bother to codify Roe? That 2008?
