New ssd shows not selectable in the bios boot menu

I was planning on installing windows to my new ssd for a dualboot, but I noticed that windows installer didn’t allow me to select the disk. I learned that it just installs to the drive that is marked as M2_1 in the bios. I thought that had something to do with boot order initially, but I’m not sure about that now. If it is...

Lime66,

I should note that after noticing it wasn’t detected by the boot menu, I formatted with NTFS. It is detected in the list of drives that the bios has however

Lime66,

SSH should just be one person drinking from a straw and VPN should be the original ssh image

Lime66,

doesn’t pushing to github (and probably a selfhosted equivalent) require ssh to do without entering your password every single time?

Need a new distro(or help with fedora

So I have a new installation of fedora, which I reinstalled because gdm would freeze and prevent me from logging in and using my computer. I then noticed the same problem on the new installation. I noticed that using an older kernel worked, but system upgrades will break gdm again. I don’t want to have to never update my...

Lime66,

Nope, just amd mesa drivers

Lime66, (edited )

I’ve tried rebooting it like that. I have a latest gen and GPU so that may be it

Lime66,

It’s the same problem, that was actually how I first noticed it

Lime66,

So where is the bug report? The kernel or gdm?

Lime66,

I’ve been using Ubuntu for a while, I just can’t go back after using a dnf based distro for a week

Lime66,

When I’m booting Nobara live, my CPU locks up multiple times. It only happened once but I doubt trying again will solve it without any change

Lime66,

Oh, I’m used to Ubuntu which has a custom theme for terminal

Lime66,

Update: so I’m updating on a kernel 6.5.6 backup which still works, and I see this when I run dnf upgrade https://lemmy.world/pictrs/image/abbcb63c-a990-4b39-91c9-eb6c102afccc.jpeg

Lime66,

So I take it I probably shouldn’t update

Lime66,

Never mind I can see it’s installing the newer kernel

Display issue

I finished building my PC recently. when I turn on the monitor when the computer isn’t on, there’s obviously no signal and I see the bouncing logo, but when the computer is on, it says that there is no signal, and that my monitor is going into standby mode, and the display turns off. my gpu seems to be working fine, and I...

Lime66,

How would I be able to hear the beeps? I can’t exactly see an error code since I have no display

Lime66,

No i didn’t, but my monitor shuts off every time it’s connected to my computer so I can’t wait that long

Lime66,

It does. I notice that the CPU light turns on briefly but turns off. Is that bad?

Lime66,

Oh that’s great, I’ll see if it works

Lime66,

I’ve plugged in all the power connectors and the GPU visibly turns on

Lime66,

The boot light turns on, which according to the manual means I don’t have a boot device, which is weird since a) I’m trying to boot into bios, and b) I have a fedora USB plugged in

Lime66,

The light means that the CPU is not detected, but it turns off quickly

Lime66,

No, still have no display and apparently have no boot device which is weird since I wrote fedora onto my usb drive

Lime66,

I have a 7800xt. don’t know if that would cause a problem

Lime66,

I’ve done this multiple times and it’s still

Lime66,

According to the manual all of the lights are supposed to turn on briefly.

Lime66,

MSI mpg b650 wifi ATX Sapphire pure 7800xt Amd ryzen 7600x 32gb Corsair vengeance ddr5

Lime66,

I have done this. My CPU has an APu so even if I didn’t it would be a non problem

Lime66,

Only the boot light stays on even though I have a boot device. (And am trying to boot into bios)

Lime66,

Update: thanks to those who said to use the apu. It’s working and I booted with no problems

Lime66,

So let me get this straight, they have a windows look by default, but using GNOME for whatever reason, then they give you the option to switch to something more vanilla GNOME but disable all of the gestures and workspaces, and then they advertise it like they invented gestures when they decide to stop disabling all of them

Lime66,

Android uses linux code though, how do they get away with licensing under apache
