Not even just out of spite. In a way its another form of “voting with one’s wallet”. It will affect their sales, and if their heads aren’t too far up their assess (like, sitting on their own shoulders), they’ll finally get a clue.
You’re right. I wasn’t sure if you were talking about new or old games. I’ll always encourage owning ROMs as opposed to paying monthly to access them for the few years they’ll be available on [current device]. And with such a tiny library, too.
Then there are other factors, like not being able to access certain versions (Nintendo offers only the Shindou version of SM64 because breaking an ancient single player game for fun is verboten).
Your use of “OOP” and “functional” threw me for a loop for a second, then I remembered this isn’t about programming. I should get some extra sleep tonight.
It’s amazing the amount of freedom I enjoy simply by not being a conservative. When I get home from work I just have a good time playing videogames or whatever else makes me happy. I’m allowed to like whatever I like.
Satanic panic is their whole life. I really pity them. They live in constant fear of not only their god who supposedly “loves” them, but another deity who also doesn’t exist.
That’s some pretty blatant cherry picking, but I’m sure it’s to emphasize the humor of the source video.
Putting that aside, I’ve never been a fan of the Genesis sound chip. It’s way too harsh and buzzy for my poor ears. I respect the opinion of people who love it, but I feel for the parents who had to tolerate hearing that every day.
Of course I was no better about not being annoying, especially when I would literally run around in circles while the end-of-stage music for Yoshi’s Island played on a loop.
One of my first smartphones could do that as well. I don’t pay for streaming services and I don’t have infinite data like most people seem to have, so I dearly miss that kind of feature. The corporate overlords have decided that free is bad.
I’ve also cone to realize that this is the real purpose of ads.
Mostly_Gristle@lemmy.world, you have the right idea, but the other key thing you should remember is to never talk about the corps to anyone, even if you’re dragging their name through the mud. “No such thing as bad press,” as they say.
It’s good to denounce the practice, but it seems naming and shaming specific companies just doesn’t work anymore at this stage.
IIRC it runs worse than BotW which is kind of shocking to me. I mean, yeah the game is much larger in scope, but it runs on the same engine, and you’d think they would have been able to optimize the hell out of it.
I started my TotK playthrough a few weeks ago and I’ve lost count of the times I’ve been taken out of the experience when the FPS dips below like 10. And this is with no action happening in the scene. Not to take anything away from the overall product—the game is magnificent—but I’m really curious as to what their lower bound was in terms of acceptable performance.
I haven’t been bothered by any shadows, and I think the camera is quite nice (so far), but I’m right there with you regarding emulation. Pretty soon I’m gonna try to dump my own cart and get it working on a more capable machine. I don’t need 4K res, or AA, or texture filtering. Just let me get a little immersed without poor hardware standing in my way. And if I want to play it on the go, I’ll use my Deck.
I feel ya. The two most recent titles are anything but the traditional Zelda experience. I do love open-world games though, so I’m cool with both of them. But I do miss the classic Zelda adventure game, where every location has its own theme music and more emphasis is placed on the temples/dungeons. It’s a shame Aonuma said that the future of the series is open-world, but honestly it’s amazing that they’ve been able to keep it fairly fresh, if a bit formulaic, for 30+ years.
You and your friend just casually met one of my favorite comedians/actors… Some people have all the luck. Well, at least this comment places me at (a very tenuous) two degrees of separation :)
I (6’5") actually sold my NA a couple of months ago. I could just fit in it and my knees were at 4:00 and 8:00 next to the wheel (not touching it at least). The only reason I sold it is because it wasn’t my daily driver and money has gotten very tight. So glad I learned to drive manual with it and then enjoy it for a few more years.
I miss it dearly :(
Oh also it was definitely a death trap for someone of my height. That roll bar would not have saved me.
Holy fuck, that is so disgusting. I was gonna ask why that’s even legal but I’ve learned not to ask such stupid, logical questions. Thanks for the tip!
It appears Bungie has done the unthinkable and laid off Michael Salvatori, Destiny’s famed composer responsible for countless incredible tracks in franchise history.
I’d hate to be the next composer. People will be shitting on their work immediately, or at best, comparing it unfavorably to the works of Michael and Marty.
Well, good luck to them either way. They have some massive shoes to fill
Yeah it does look a little low-effort. My first thought was about the GTA trilogy debacle. But it can’t be that bad right?
Konami doesn’t deserve the money, but it’s hard to argue against accessibility, so I won’t. If someone wants to enjoy these iconic games I wouldn’t try to stop them.
I agree that it’s probably mostly children / teens that play those games, but I’m sure a non-insignificant portion of their player base is the type of person who is A-OK with listening to nothing but pop music.
Nothing inherently wrong with that, but they are either afraid of trying something new or they aren’t interested in discovering what they may end up enjoying more than the same derivative time-wasters.
Not to detract from your argument (I agree completely), but indie game devs not only make actual games, but they tend to pour passion into them rather than a formula.
I’m gonna play this game soon, but I wouldn’t have even considered it - let alone buy it - before watching the first part of this video by tomatoanus, explaining the any% speedrun. I stopped watching before one mission that he claims is one of the best chapters of a video game he’s ever played (and the chapter itself apparently has a Wikipedia page??). I’m pretty excited to play it based on that preamble 😁
ETA: It was on sale for $3 so that definitely helped
