Twitches,

Breezy weather is nice, just installed. Does it give you NOAA severe weather notification?

ReversalHatchery,

Problem is, nothing prevents anyone from removing the plus part before sanding the mail. Isn’t it a standard at basically any email provider?

Looks like another Have I Been Pwned, at least at a glance they’re looking for email addresses, and given that you have your email with them if you’re using this service they kinda do have it already

Here’s another response I got from someone from radicle regarding this.

That’s a great Q.

Radicle can support a federated model, where known major seeds are connected with multiple smaller clusters. >Radicle supports also completely self-sustaining and disconnected clusters of nodes networked between themselves >within that cluster. And of course any other network topography in between.

There’s a promising active proposal to establish a dedicated new Radworks Organization tasked with solving the >incentivization and reward problem for seeds. …radworks.org/…/discussion-rgp-22-start-the

Additionally, similar to how one can “star” a repo on GitHub, one can “seed” a repo on Radicle. “Starring” a repo is >often a toast of support, akin to an emoji reaction, with little more effect other than that, but in Radicle “seeding” a >project, goes beyond incrementing a vanity metric: it actively supports propagating that project across the Radicle >network. The count of seedings per repo can also be used as a differentiator between original and “copy-cat” ones.

pcouy,

I admit they hid it pretty well, but look again. Radworks, the entity behind Radicle, is a DAO, which makes anything they do related to cryptocurrencies

Fluent Emoji: Microsoft's open source emoji library

https://github.com/microsoft/fluentui-emoji

@opensource

Markaos,

I kinda doubt there’s going to be any outside contributions to this project, so any non-exclusive license would allow MS to rerelease this under a proprietary license - even the GPL. They own the copyright, so they can release it under as many licenses as they wish.

With software there’s way lower barrier to entry and way higher chance of having the patches accepted. With art… Good luck convincing MS that your version of the emoji is worth the hassle of losing the ability to just change the license at any moment.

rutrum,
@rutrum@lm.paradisus.day avatar

Open source to some extend, but their whole thing about these emojis is that they are 3d and animated. But the repo only contains png renders if the 3d models. So you arent able to modify or animate the 3d models directly.

Imo they released enough to call it “open source” and get good PR from it without actually giving the raw source files to the community (their competitors). I was not pleased with this when they announced it 2 years ago. Its still the same.

whou,

I’m glad that they chose the AGPL when open-sourcing their server. I don’t see that many companies, especially ones offering a “product”, open-sourcing their work with a copyleft license.

grue,

If they’re nice enough to use the AGPL, I have some faith that they’ll also improve it for self-hosting.

Specal,

Well you’ve said it yourself, Microsoft are trying to remove that physical limitation to accessing a platform. But Microsoft knows what the market wants, people have been against exclusives for a long time and they want to remove that, I shouldn’t have to spend £300 to play a game when I have equipment already capable of playing a game Infront of me.

So being scared that Xbox is going to disappear is stupid, the consoles might, but Microsoft has been transforming Xbox into a platform for years, starting with the release of windows 7 when they introduced XboxLive for windows alongside halo 2. This has been a long term goal.

If Xbox disappears, so does your digital library and other purchases (some games you can buy once and get on PC as well, but last time I checked, they were few and far in between). I can see that being a concern for people that bought into the Xbox ecosystem for the last few gens.

People spent lots of effort on Xbox 360 hacking just because microsoft spent so much effort making it as unhackable as possible. Fortunately, console gaming is so much less relevant today that it’s not even worth remembering what the latest consoles are. Sure, there are some shitty AAA titles that lock things down or are so demanding they need a $100k pc but between the few ethical worthwhile ones and the expansive library of actually good indie games on steam, consoles just aren’t worth fucking with anymore.

vexikron,

I know that from an actual standpoint of generally speaking most bang for your buck, pc’s have made more sense for over a decade.

But, console gaming is still a huge part of marketshare. Yes, it doesnt really make sense. But literally millions of people still haven’t got the memo.

Only people I know who still use consoles basically just have them for that /one/ exclusive they can’t wait to play.

The wider gaming landscape is not like us though.

Basically, there are still a ton of kids and/or casuals. We are likely inundated and affected by literally decades of following industry news and learning at least a decent amount of the technical hardware and software capabilities and principles… a huge amount of people still basically just view games with very little of that background knowledge.
