The OnePlus Watch 2 has 2 chips, and basically runs a lightweight OS while keeping the hungry one in very very low power, and only powering it up when necessary....
Anyway, full and very easy android app support would be enough. Imaging installing an android apk app via your fdroid software store without thinking about it. Just like a flatpak. That’s the future I want to live in.
Context: my gf mentioned getting a vpn for privacy, and I tried to explain that it “does” help, but it’s more like type of windows on a house. It certainly can be part of the package, but it’s no where near the foundation....
I’m taking a long biking trip soon and want to share my live location with my boyfriend in case something happens. Any recommendations for privacy-focused apps that can accomplish this? I’m on Android, he’s on iOS.
Today I was contacted by someone at work. She graduated school with me and our 20 year reunion was coming up. Why did she contact me at work? It was the only way they were able to track me down. I was included in promotional material by name. She told me I "was the hardest to track down"and I had to smile....
It may not always be good to be invisible. You could make a website for yourself sich that people can find you and contact you. You can tgen decide if you want to write back. E.g a mastodon account would be enough. You don’t gave to blog with that acc.
Hiya, so quickly wondering wether you have enabled this or not. Obviously it’s not great for privacy, but it also seems very nice to have for image cloud solutions, so that images can be sorted based on location. Are there any good solutions for this? I’d like have it enabled, but also afraid of sharing images with sensitive...
Yes of course. Noone has access to the pictures but me. And even if some gov agency would get access to it. And then? It’s historic data. They know where I live, where I work. And then they know that I go out hiking each week. So what? And that’s only if they get access to it. If the locate my phone they have a live position of me. Photos are nothing bad. Hackers? My address is more valuable. Foreign people? Have no access
Last night I was nearly tearing my hair out trying to get a crappy inkjet printer installed when I turned to ChatGPT for help; 5 minutes later it was done (driver issues)....
Chatgpt does not know truth. It does not know if the info it provides is true. It does not know if the code actually works. It just concatenates strings based on probability. You may be lucky or you aren’t. The easier the task, the more likely it’ll succeed. But a low difficulty is no guarantee for success.
It is great for layouts, structure and for the basic concept. “For loop in fish”. But it may struggle to convert a video from x264 to av1 with ffmpeg. It depends on info that’s provided online. If it uses misinformation, then that’s in there as well.
The command you got is just wrong. What about avif, jxl or most other image formats? Use it, but think.
I have an HP Stream 11 that I want to use for word processing and some light web browsing - I’m a writer and it’s a lightweight laptop to bring to the library or coffee shop to write on. I don’t play games but isn’t bazzite.gg the latest and best shit for gaming? If so, it would be good to try a live image of another atomic fedora image fedoraproject.org/atomic-desktops . I’d recommend a tiling window manager because it uses less RAM. You can also easily start with KDE and rebase to a tiling window manager if it doesn’t work out as planned.
It doesn’t matter if they are left or right but it should fit into the window. Literally fit into it, it doesn’t. And the icons are off. Either use circles for all, or don’t. And by now there is a consistency gap. In settings, the main window is the sidebar whereas in nautilus it’s just a sidebar and not the main window.
I wrote a simple script in order to help someone in a recent reply from me, to make running Flatpak applications from terminal easier. After that I worked a little bit on it further and now ended up with 2 completely different approaches....
those commands are gold! Thank you for sharing! Saved them. They work flawlessly so far.
If flatpak search would work with fzf, it would be easier to use and faster than GNOME software
edit:
I added echo “${app}” to flatapp in order to print the app in terminal to have a visual response which app will run. (some apps take some seconds to open on my slow machine)
Isn’t selinux enabled by default? Hence, most won’t be affected.
On systems with SELinux enabled and in enforcing mode, access to those files is limited to unconfined (usually interactive) users, unconfined systemd services and privileged containers. Confined daemons, users and containers are not able to access them.
I apologize if my english isn’t perfect in how you would say it daily, but I hope it’ll help with Linux popularity and as a reference for future days....
I’d use fedora atomic, specifically ublue, because you can fully control what the os is.
It installs updates while it runs and at the next boot it boots into the updated image. If an update fails, it boots into the old image.
Most people don’t know WM. Use a DE. It doesn’t matter which one you use KDE or GNOME. Both are stable and solid. It’s up to you. Maybe choose it based on the apps you use.
No idea where you get the idea from that it has to be proven and that it’s somewhat unreliable and in beta. I get the impression you talk about something different
I think I rebased to 40 a couple of weeks ago with no problems. Are you on an atomic version? If yes, you can always roll back if it doesn’t work as planned.
I also like that it installs the apps right after first boot in microos. That’s awesome. Unfortunately I like the image based system of fedora a tiny bit more.
Curious how none of the coverage of this launch mention that the app isn’t actually open-source (though they pretend to be an open-source project), which makes all of their claims of “end-to-end encryption” worthless...
For example, I’m using Debian, and I think we could learn a thing or two from Mint about how to make it “friendlier” for new users. I often see Mint recommended to new users, but rarely Debian, which has a goal to be “the universal operating system”....
Ask the devs. I haven’t bothered asking so far. There’s fp github.com/DLopezJr/fp but I don’t like workaround if it’s easily fixed upstream and it’s not like they wouldn’t know that it’s bullshit. Maybe they can’t decide upon a solution. Or are waiting for another important and relevant update.
It’s not semantics. People refer to GNU/Linux as Linux. Anything that isn’t GNU isn’t meant by the people. It’s not my fault this is fucked up. We both know that it is linux and that it isn’t what people understand if someone talks about linux.
What about a linux phone that has a full Android OS sleeping in parallel? Like OnePlus Watch 2 that runs 2 OSs at the same time.
