barbara,

Ubuntu was my first distro because ubuntu was linux for outsiders many years ago. Any other distro was only for hardcore people. I don’t regret hopping around the linux world.

barbara,

All good on my device but I use fedora atomic. If it wasn’t good, I could just roll back.

barbara,

No, it’s image based.

You can always use the testing image if you want

barbara,

web-based Element Matrix client

barbara,

And I was hoping they fork fractal such that they can both profit from each other

barbara,

Fork and stay at the old version until it’s fixed?

barbara,

My opinion:

  • waistline is best for calories
  • openscale is best for tracking weight (disable all other metrics)
barbara,

Make sure to get the api keys

barbara,

Sounds like you’d love to use track and graph

Edit: this is usually where you want to look at that question tests.reproducible-builds.org/…/archlinux.html

Why is it not stated which research paper? By whom? It’s just a reproduction of what they do which is good but the guy reporting about it acts like it’s breaking news.

barbara,

I’ve got 20 extensions enabled. There’s no drawback so far. PaperWM is probably the most important one for me.

barbara,

That info is better than “install as few extensions as possible”.

barbara,

Tbo, that’s a little bit to little research you provided considering you want to use it for work.

E.g. why do you need more than 2 years of support for a workstation?

Stating that debian isn’t secure enough really confuses me as it is one of the most solid distros out there.

barbara,

Is that headline human generated or why is it so bad? It’s apple and google

Apple and Google have removed apps that promised deepfake nudes from the App Store and Google Play,

And what is a teen boy? A 13 year old or a 19 year old?

barbara,

Like your list, I just state it without any reason.

Bad.

barbara,

I would only use it if the devs are highly reputable. It contains all your passwords and possibly all your wealth as well.

I’m not saying the dev isn’t. I’m just saying that with this you really have to know what you do.

barbara,

It’s astonishing.

Fedora introduced a whole new distro where you can’t install anything with dnf anymore and people love it. People love using flatpaks instead (yes I know of all the shortcomings, but you can always choose another install method for that broken package). And ubuntu users just hate ubuntu for what they do. The difference may also be that fedora gives a choice to the user and does not directly force it

barbara,

You could do that. With that image everything is vompletely equal on the user device which means that debugging is much easier. Ublue makes distributing custom fedoras increadibly easy.

barbara,

Damn

github.com/ayan4m1

You should do a better job updating your documentation so that people do not waste their time like I did. This change to closed source was announced where, exactly? All of your READMEs and documentation sites do not mention this. Very easy to be confused and very disappointing to me that this went closed-source.

Not only did you sell out, you also removed all the old versions that were released under an open source license so that others couldn’t continue to use out-of-support versions. DISGUSTING.

tl;dr get off GitHub and npm entirely if you want to do the closed-source thing, kthx.

Sorry for this and others. That’s a horrible experience.

barbara,

GNOME looks better out of the box and configuring KDE can be very tricky. There are also a lot of outdated “addons” for KDE and you need some in order to get what you want. extensions are better integrsted in KDE but it’s not like KDE has everything out of the box. I’d love to see more KDE support.

barbara,

That’s good :)

barbara,

When it launched the apps were more modern than bitwarden. If bitwarden hasn’t improved since, then it’s still the same

barbara,

What kind of fitness tracker?

Running? Opentracks.

barbara, (edited )

pulsar (atom successor) is great for it, vscodium should do it, evince (gnome pdf viewer) works good.

What nonremovable popup a d dancing text in okular?

barbara,

apparently there is a preview plugin for kate docs.kde.org/…/kate-application-plugin-preview.ht… , it’s already preinstalled. It works with markdown files, I guess if someone would be down, he could extend the plugin to work with typst

barbara,

You can easily add POIs with streetcomplete, osmand or directly on osm.org . Just add POIs whenever you search for it and it is missing. It’ll take some time depending on your area but if you don’t start today, there won’t be an alternative for you tomorrow. Ask a friend to do the same. My area has more pois and details and is more up to date and the location is more accurate than google.

barbara,

Matrix… it’s on such a good path I can’t complain. Adoption could be faster but it’s alright.

I2p, although I have no idea if the lack of adoption has not a very good reason.

barbara,

Does that make the subscription model illegal and facebook has to pay the money back?

barbara, (edited )

Waze is google.

Osmand can do that easily. You can even copy coordinates.

Magic earth can do it as well but it’s not open source. At least it uses osm.

barbara,

I bet 90% of waze users have no clue.

I met people who didn’t know youtube was google. The “instagram by facebook” should be mandatory like “made in germany” for all goods and brands.

“Made in germany” was invented by the British to show its citizens which products were locally made and which were foreign to boost local production. It backfired hard and people prefered German goods.

barbara,
barbara,

If it’s missing, add it and you can find it in the future. It’s very easy

barbara,

I thought you wanted something that’s not google? You’ve got the chance to contribute to it. You don’t have to, but if you do, the places you visited will be there much faster. In my area there’s everything by now and much more than google has

barbara,

Thanks for posting in a FOSS community, that’s not common for typst. Highly appreciate it.

I like the CV yet I think it’s too difficult for non tech people but that’s probably not the target audience.

barbara,

Much more modern. Way easier yet not as powerful (probably due to its age/ maturity. not language capabilities)

  • Markdown tables are still much easier to use
  • Typsts chat room is closed source and not accessible by everyone
  • There is no discourse forum
  • The typst documentation is actually the documentation of their online editor
  • many things are weird if coming from other languages but you just have to adapt
barbara,

Typst uses discord instead of matrix. Discord is proprietary and you can use discord only under discords terms which leaves out a couple of people. You can’t just browse the chat rooms. It’s not easy to use and simply behind modern open standards.

I mean that there is no proper forum for typst. E.g. discourse.julialang.org discourse.nixos.org/ discuss.grapheneos.org community.openstreetmap.org discussion.fedoraproject.org/ modern or updated projects all use discourse. There is no proper room where users can ask simple questions. Something like stack overflow but not stack overflow. A forum specifically for interested people. Github discussions should not be used for a user forum. Github discussions should be for discussions around the language, if you want to use github for that.

barbara,

Why isn’t he posting on fediverse?

barbara,

Someone on twitter could ask him. “Unfortunately” I have no account anymore.

barbara,

Linux market share is increasing. If we can get the phone I described, banking apps will adjust in 5 years if enough people demand it.

Anyway 2fa banking apps should become open source as well and work on any 2fa app. It’s ridiculous that you have to use their app for it.

barbara,

You are saying suse publishes a video about how to pronounciate suse with an incorrect pronounciation?

barbara,

Good rule 😊

barbara,

That’s great, thx. Hence, in German it’s suse and in English it’s officially susa.
