I would normally not link to a tweet, but it’s from the YouTuber who is behind the global campaign that aims to prevent games companies from killing games people paid for:...
I guess the news is that someone is finally setting up a campaign with an actionable plan to punish some of the shitty unethical practices. And every bit of news in that regard is more fuel for the fire to keep it from sizzling out.
I’m curious how software can be created and evolve over time. I’m afraid that at some point, we’ll realize there are issues with the software we’re using that can only be remedied by massive changes or a complete rewrite....
And the strangest thing about that is that neither PulseAudio nor Pipewire are replacing anything. ALSA and PulseAudio are still there while I handle my audio through Pipewire.
A previous infection. Depending on your type of Long COVID you get Post Exertional Malaise after doing stuff. That’s one of the easiest to recognise. Proper biomarkers are being studied but it seems to take a long time to reach the medical profession.
Until then most doctors will mistake ME/CFS (the most common Long COVID type) symptoms for depression and prescribe anti depressants, psycho therapy and above all exercise and make everything a lot worse until the patient can’t leave their bed anymore. Source: me
Edit: Reading the article my prediction is that most patients will come out of this study worse. Overexertion makes the symptoms worse. That’s what their training probably leads to. Hopefully I’m wrong.
Luckily most installers support installing wherever you tell them to. So if you install from a live image you should be able to set it up the way you want. I’ll definitely try that as soon as a I do my next installation.
I don’t like that it doesn’t give you a live image by default. It’s kind of hard to find them on the website.
I think my ideal installer would be one that boots into a desktop and by default installs that and copies everything you’ve done there onto the installed system. Like “here you can start using your system right away, we’ll ask you a few questions and then do the pesky installation stuff for you in the background”.
It seems like the FOSS community is continuing to grow, and FOSS apps keep getting better (Immich reallh blew my mind recently), which is a big win 😎 but there are still many apps I use that I would kill for an open source alternative. I am curious what you guys think? Are there any apps you’d love alternatives for?
Was it too much to add some line about the customers who have already paid for the game being locked out? My guess is that the Comission won’t even know what the actual problem is.
At least it’s a first step in the right direction.
Wow, the animations look terrible. Like cheap early 2000s 3d animated cartoon terrible. Have the animators not heard of acceleration? All the movement looks like it has a constant velocity.
For example, I’m using Debian, and I think we could learn a thing or two from Mint about how to make it “friendlier” for new users. I often see Mint recommended to new users, but rarely Debian, which has a goal to be “the universal operating system”....
The one thing I wish every distro would incorporate is the way Gentoo handles config file updates. If there are any changes you get the option of using a very simple side by side merge where you go through all the differences of the old and new configuration where you can decide which one to use going forward.

It’s nice. You can visit the cave where all its parts were collected. Apparently this cave has also been a popular party location for the intellectual elites so you can find graffiti of famous German artists and philosophers next to stone age archeology.
And I remember the toilets in the tourist house thingy being nice.
When I was a kid I was on holiday with my parents in Spain. Since Mortal Kombat was verboten in Germany I went to every shop that might have SNES games to find it. I think I was finally able to find Mortal Kombat 3 in Andorra. And it was glorious!
I noticed that I only had 5 GiB of free space left today. After quickly deleting some cached files, I tried to figure out what was causing this, but a lot was missing. Unless you have multiple partitions or disks just concentrate on the one for /. So you have 29 GiB available.
Everything else is sharing the same drive for different purposes.
The beauty of BTRFS is that you can partition your disk into different parts but still actually use the whole disk for every “partition”. That makes management of snapshots easier. I think it would even enable you to combine multiple physical disks into one.
I remember when the new German id was rolled out that it could potentially just tell a website whether the user was an adult or not. But nobody seems to use it for that purpose. From the last time I tried to use my ID to identify myself I must conclude that it simply doesn’t work.
I’ve recently been given medication for a rash I’ve been experiencing. With this app I can nicely track when the rash starts, at what time I take my medication and how effective it is. Seems to be a single developer who created a solid app. Also available on Playstore.
I think football manager or some other sports game uses an outdated version of Denuvo and is more easily cracked. I guess they have to crack it often for DLC or updates. I don’t really know.
I do regular automated updates. For anything requiring human intervention like the xz thing I trust Lemmy and YouTube to keep me updated. No dedicated news source because if I were to freak out about every new vulnerability found I wouldn’t be able to sleep at night.
If you had it on a computer that is accessible via SSH from the internet you should proceed under the assumption that it was compromised. Which means you should reinstall from a safe medium and change your keys and passwords.
Damn, we learned about intersex people in biology class. Probably sex ed. Although not explicitly transsexuality. That was in the late 90s or early 2000s.
The old Might & Magic games are very nice. Especially 4 and 5 that you can combine into an even bigger game with additional quests and an ultimate ending are awesome. And it should even run on your phone through ScummVM.
