What was the first ever distro you installed and used? For me, it was Mint as I seemed like the closest thing to Windows minus all the forced updates and chappy changes....
“Reading the reddit threads, I would like to clear up something,” Vincke said. “WOTC is not to blame for us taking a different direction. On the contrary, they really did their best and have been a great licensor for us, letting us do our thing. This is because it’s what’s best for Larian.”
Since BG3s release he has said that their next game would be smaller in scope. He explicitly said that for him he’s done with BG3 and would now start working on the next game. None of their previous games ever got DLC. But they got a final ultimate update with many finishing touches.
Since time immemorial I have always done well in my PC purchases when prioritising VRAM amount over total GPU performance. It always lets me eek out a few more years of usage out of it.
For me, Google video search, Google books (Internet Archive is good, but doesn’t always have the same stuff), Adobe InDesign (but in the process of learning LaTeX), and Typewise. As for the Google stuff, I liked Whoogle a lot, but almost all their instances seem to have been blocked or shut down. Also, apologies if this is...
Great! Although I think that security actually goes down that way. Something something about statistics. A crypto expert could probably explain that properly and we could pretend to understand it.
Does it really still suck? Wanted to play it on my Deck but just told myself to wait a bit until the initial kinks were ironed out. Guess I’m waiting forever.
In case you’re wondering why this post is being downvoted. Your title says nothing about what the video is about. You don’t add any context or information of your own. This makes it look like some cheap clickbait to boost a YouTube channel.
Use the –allow-vendor-change flag (I think that’s it, I can’t look it up at the moment) and it will happily switch between vendors without bugging you.
Or just remove the repo, but I guess you need it for other stuff.
I moved to KDE for better gaming support, but I really dislike the condensed look of everything in the settings app, discover, and most of all in Dolphin....
I’m thinking of installing Linux (think I’m going to use Nobara) on my new budget gaming PC, and my biggest worry is video games compatibility. I have most of my games on Steam and Epic. Some on GOG, and some on Itch. I know a bit about steam compatibility, but not much about the rest. Is this something I need to worry...
Only games with intrusive anti-cheat should be a problem. Everything else is easily installable with Heroic or Lutris. For anti-cheat look at areweanticheatyet.com.
Plasma 6 landed in opensuse. However, I recommend to do it in tty because if you do it in plasma the upgrade will be incomplete because the shell will crash in the middle of update without installing all. In case this happen to anyone, just reinstall plasma 6 pattern and it will go without problems
The title says it all, I’d like to switch my operating system and preserve most of my files. Any other info I should know before the move would be nice as well.
At least on the Steam Deck I couldn’t get an image out of it in gaming mode. But it worked with the windows version through Wine, which probably was actually still running XWayland.
I got the T460 refurbished and I really didn’t want to run Windows 10 on it. I last used Linux for any real length of time a good 20 years ago, so I’m pretty inexperienced with it at this point and I had to figure out how to install it myself....
Well, you shouldn’t have to turn UEFI off to boot from the USB stick. That one could actually be on Mint. Or on the way the stick was created. It’s been a while since I messed with this stuff but by now a typical Linux installation medium should be able to boot with UEFI.
The secure boot is enabled by default so that only signed operating systems and not some malware can boot the computer. And I guess it’s legitimate to not have the keys of all the Linux distributions under the sun in there.
I’m looking for an image viewer on windows that also has some simple editing tools. I’ve been using nomacs for quite a while, which is exactly that, but editing images with this software can get pretty finicky, so I’m looking for an alternative....
Luckily for us the game was released on GOG which enables anyone interested enough to keep playing the original version. The physical release on Xbox might also help with this somewhat.
I was watching the IGN overview on “No Rest For The Wicked” and they say that they abandoned the point-and-click system in favor of WASD because it was not precise enough....
I think the precision comes from decoupling movement from attacks. So you can more easily dodge or reposition yourself while attacking. My guess is that people started to appreciate that with the rise of gamepad controls in popular ARPGs.
Basically all real time strategy games and ARPGs use click to move. MOBAs have inherited it from RTS games, namely War Craft 3 and the ARPGs got it from Diablo 1, which coincidentally got the requirement for click to move in real time from War Craft 1 as well. Although you could also trace back Diablo 1 to Rogue.
Lately, when booting up my linux machine (Fedora 39 KDE), everything looks good until about 30s after I log in. Then both screens go black with no output, and shortly after that they light up as if there is a signal but I don’t seen anything....
First thing I would do is activate the SSH server so that you can still access the PC with the broken display.
Do you have an nVidia card and/or use Wayland? If you have an nVidia card reinstalling the drivers might be enough although it doesn’t sound like the common problem that the kernel module isn’t built for the current kernel.
Which video games have been trapped on a hardware platform (console/handheld/headset/etc.) that you wish would be ported well?
I was reading about Oculus accounts that haven't been assimilated into Meta accounts being erased, & it got me thinking about games trapped on hardware platforms again. What are some of the games you wish would have good ports across different hardware?
The old Uncharted games. Every other year I forget that the “Legacy of Thieves Collection” is not a collection of legacy games.
You can’t even emulate them without a proper PlayStation controller because they need the movement feature. And the Steam Deck’s movement feature isn’t supported by the emulators.
I’d also like to play Until Dawn but I guess that’s finally coming.
I’m interviewing for a software dev job currently (it’s in the initial stages). If things work out, I’d absolutely prefer a work laptop with Linux installed (I personally use PopOS but any distro will do), a Mac will be second choice, but I absolutely cannot tolerate Windows, I abhor it, I hate it… (If all computers left...
A job interview isn’t just for the company to find out if you are a good hire for them. It’s also for you to find out if the company is a good employer for you.
So yes, ask away. And if they cannot meet your criteria you just don’t start working there.
