If you don’t mind paying for it, Bitwig is probably the best that officially supports Linux. There are also ways to run windows VSTs in wine on Linux. I’m no pro, but I love Bitwig, it has boatloads of cool stuff. Reaper also supports Linux. Ubuntu is fine IMO, I think there is a spin that’s specific to audio workloads that might be nice for a beginner. I use Arch at home but I use Ubuntu for work, it’s pretty nice these days.

Bitwig comes with so much that I can’t remember if they have drum samples or just machines or both. I highly recommend you try the free trial to see if you like it before you buy.

jodanlime,

Totally understandable, it has a lot going on and if you already know reaper it might be good to stick with it. Good luck!

Microsoft has always been more than happy to make the market smaller by buying the competition and discontinuing their products shortly after. For some reason people didn’t think Xbox would do the same?

jodanlime,
@jodanlime@midwest.social avatar

…wikipedia.org/…/Embrace,_extend,_and_extinguishin 1998, Bill Gates stated: “One thing we have got to change in our strategy – allowing Office documents to be rendered very well by other people’s browsers is one of the most destructive things we could do to the company. We have to stop putting any effort into this and make sure that Office documents very well depends on PROPRIETARY IE capabilities. Anything else is suicide for our platform. This is a case where Office has to avoid doing something to destory [sic] Windows.”

Not just Gates, but all higher ups at Microsoft think this way. It’s kind of naive to think Xbox would be different IMHO.

Ok, but for real is it any good? I bought some cheap stuff for my hiking first aid kit and it doesn’t stick worth a damn.

Absolutely disgusting. The perpetrators should be in solitary confinement for abusing some of the most vulnerable members of society.

This is why I don’t love snaps, proprietary backend. I think snaps actually work great for the most part, and flatpaks don’t support cli apps, only GUI.

jodanlime,
@jodanlime@midwest.social avatar

This is news to me! I’m honestly just paroting others with the no CLI support, I never did the homework. Shame on me I guess!

I think we should just resurrect Plan 9 instead.

jodanlime,
@jodanlime@midwest.social avatar

I mean, you’re right but I still want to see a modernized plan 9, I just think it would be neat.

jodanlime,

Latest release was 9 years ago, not exactly what I’m looking for. 9front is probably closer to what I want than inferno.

Open source e reader (lemmy.ml)

I recently got a Sony prs 600 e reader from 2009. The battery is at the end of its life (It lasts about 3 days with heavy reading, and a couple weeks without reading). No backlight, no Wi-Fi, just an SD card that I can load epub files and small PDFs. The screen is slow and the contrast isn’t the best. The “touch screen” is...

jodanlime,
@jodanlime@midwest.social avatar

I have one of these in a box somewhere, maybe I should dig it out and see if the battery is still good.

Laptop screws are usually JIS instead of Philips. Get a JIS screwdriver and you won’t have that issue in the future.

I have found that different USB adapters will vary wildly in their max volume and sound quality. I bought a Google branded one from a local retail store and it kind of sucks. I ordered a higher end one and it gets louder and sounds better at high volume.

That’s the good one I have. I’m sure there are other options but it has held up well and sounds good!

It looks like you haven’t actually created any bridges, just asked virt-manager to use one. If you type: ip a In a terminal it will list your network adapters. If br0 isn’t listed it doesn’t exist.

GNOME Sees Progress On Variable Refresh Rate Setting, Adding Battery Charge Control (www.phoronix.com)

As pointed out in This Week in GNOME, there’s been some continued work on Variable Rate Refresh for the GNOME desktop. The VRR setting within GNOME Settings continues to be iterated on as the developers iron out how they’d like to present the Variable Rate Refresh setting for users. The developers have been discussing how to...

Scribus Gets Huge Update (but the toolbar buttons are still too small to see!) (www.omgubuntu.co.uk)

I want to like Scribus, but every time I hear about it getting updated, I download it, open it, only to find these tiny toolbar icons that have no apparent way of being made bigger. This is always what prevents me from trying it out! Seems like kind of a basic design no-brainer. Grrr. Does anyone else have this problem? I’m on...

jodanlime,
@jodanlime@midwest.social avatar

Scribus has been around for a while, their UI looks like older versions of Microsoft Office. If you hover over the icon it will tell you what it does.

Maybe I’m older than you but scribus feels like comfort food, it isn’t loud and flashy and lets me focus on my work. I really don’t like the gigantic touch friendly buttons on desktop apps personally, so I hope they don’t go that way.

I cannot see any settings to change the toolbar size but I’m not a scribus wizard either.

All newly announced models get Bluetooth 5.3 with LE audio and Auracast support.

That’s actually pretty awesome. Bluetooth speakers are getting to the point where new features aren’t really being released, so features like this actually helps a brand stand apart.

CP2077 is unironically my favorite game right now. For some reason my first playthrough was mostly bug free and now preformance is better. My second playthrough is about 60% done and I’m pretty pumped for the new expansion.
