Worst part about McDonald’s to be fair

Energy shouldn’t be a business, it’s a necessity at this point.

mac,

That’s a pretty good idea actually

Mint is just green Ubuntu.

mac,

I liked the feel of Pop_OS!, the setup and configuration are great, but damned it was unappealing looks wise for me.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah I feel like that just defeats the purpose of it though, in that case just install Debian.

Yeah I am interested in Cosmic DE.

So many options for comfy shoes, why choose those.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

I just wear skate shoes and walking boots all year round. The extra 5 seconds to put them on is fine, I don’t need to save 5 seconds with a pair of slip ones just to take the trash out, I just relax and make a journey out of it.

Plus I find any shoes that aren’t attached to the feet I guess, things like flip flops and crocs where your feet kinda just sit in them, wildly uncomfortable.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

At a summer cabin the weather and location should be good enough that feeling your feet on the warm pavement or grass should outweigh the convenience of shoes. Or just leave the shoes on if you know you’ll be in and out for a while.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Hey man if you like them, as I said somewhere else I don’t like shoes that aren’t attached to my feet, they make me really uncomfortable.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

So you’re telling me you’ve never seen a cabin that has a stretch of pavement outside it? Even if just for cars to drive up?

Dude you’re feet will not get that dirty from some grass.

mac,

If they want to do this kind of thing they should always least either leave them to be played whenever but offer some kind of double xp or whatever while the event is actually on, or run the event as an annual thing so you can experience it every year and you don’t feel like you’re missing out because you didn’t get the game at release for whatever reason

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

In a “non-trekkie” though my nan loved it so I’ve seen a couple of the films, I know of The Borg, Q the holodeck (another I think most people at least understand the concept of) and pretty sure “This Motherfucker” is the federation or whatever they’re called.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Ahh that makes sense… I really should watch the series sometime, only seen glimpses of the show and the movie with the weird botox aliens and the one with the Borg where Data gets a robot blowjob from the Borg queen.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

I think one of them was called Insurrection or something?

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Just downloaded it, loads of features, free and doesn’t have a premium option.

I was using Pocket Casts which locks few features behind a paywall and pushes it. I don’t really like having things in the UI that are locked by a paywall, it’s fine if the app has more features and an option somewhere to pay for them but don’t clutter my general day to day use with advertising.

“My reply probably isn’t helpful” - replies anyway… CONFIDENCE.

Is JMP.chat expensive? Are there any alternatives? (lemm.ee)

I’ve been using this phone number from JMP.chat and I’ve barely used it for much of anything (Started February 27th, 2024), and somehow its telling me I need $35? I tried out their service plan but it was way too expensive. I only bought it once and took off my credit card after because auto pay kept auto depositing money...

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Is it possible to use this number with matrix? That’d be a perfect option for me, I don’t really want to sign up to another chat service.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

What other services that are alternatives to this?

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Does this mean you’d be able to send people text messages and call via matrix?

Honestly if I could do that I’d be happy to remove almost all other Comms methods from my devices.

Can you tell excel sheets which were created using a pirated version of MS Office?

My friend works for a company which requires her to use Microsoft specific application, she didn’t really want to switch to Win 11 and choose to just use Wine Linux package and install a 2016 version of MS office on her Linux laptop. That’s all well and good, but this company she is working for servers other clients at...

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Can she not use the cloud version? Surely her company provides an account for that, if not it definitely has a free version.

Not listened to Kerrang for a good many years. Well thought out post though! Lots of details.

How is plan9 compared to BSd & Linux? I only learned about it recently.

What are the stand out pros & cons compared to Linux & BSD?

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

iterm2 is near perfect on macOS, for Linux I usually use Alacritty or Foot

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

foot is also a good choice for a minimal terminal emulator.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah I mean there’s a lot of benefits and increased security on Wayland now so it’s definitely worth the transition to.

Weird, I’ve not required X for anything since I started using it, I also just use my Window Manager to bind hotkeys (usually Sway)

Asking for a Linux (or non-Windows) laptop during a job interview?

I’m interviewing for a software dev job currently (it’s in the initial stages). If things work out, I’d absolutely prefer a work laptop with Linux installed (I personally use PopOS but any distro will do), a Mac will be second choice, but I absolutely cannot tolerate Windows, I abhor it, I hate it… (If all computers left...

Those differences between Dev and prod are usually mitigated by containers to be fair.

Fedora just documents itself incredibly well, plus all the pushes they’re doing with immutable distributions and somehow making it seem simple is a wonderful thing.

Arch ecause of the large amount of software available on the AUR.

I set it up with SwayFX, Alacritty Firefox & Sway Lock. Slap your favourite text editor on there and you’ve everything you need.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

This kind of setup works best for me, a desktop environment with a tiling window manager on the top, that way I can use it like a normal desktop for most things and can hop back and forth between apps I use a lot all on the home row with the window manager.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

What does setting fstab do there?

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Exactly this! I used to enjoy tinkering with my configuration a lot and then it got stressful as I kept finding new things to add or tweak and change and never ended up getting work done.

I love how simple sway is, even if I’ve added a few extra visual features with the fx version (at least it’s pretty to look at). The configuration is basically set your used apps to keybinds, choose how you want windows to look and be spaced, add a few key bindings.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Well what does setting it to ro do?

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Like Ninite for Windows but at the start not manually downloaded

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Weirdly I think Vim’s modal mindset is a much simpler grasp than the finger gymnastics presented by Emacs.

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Lazy installation?

mac,
@mac@infosec.pub avatar

Yeah I understand that but surely you have a list of hours you know you need almost every time?
