perishthethought,

So, the electronic parts appear to be 100% non-user-repairable. I’m sure Apple’s main motivation was to reduce the size and weight, but this is still a $3500 disposable item. Has anyone identified the “killer app” yet?

perishthethought,

Share your O’Reilly tomes here.

perishthethought,

Hahaha. And they say the internet is only for porn.

perishthethought,

Oh yeah. I remember that book from college. Only like 100 pages or so, right?

perishthethought,

Is someone testing out their AI image generator here?

Seems like it…

perishthethought,

Noob question here: when KDE 6 is released, when would I then see it as available in my Ubuntu 22 / 23 app store for download? Right away or years later?

perishthethought,

So, that was a passive tech, keeping you in a place, and this actively works to steer you to where you need to be. This seems better in the long run for that purpose even though it’s much more complicated.

perishthethought,

Super not helpful, person. :[

Op, ignore this video. It’s old old news.

Editing memories, spying on our bodies, normalising weird goggles: Apple’s new Vision Pro has big ambitions (theconversation.com)

Apple Vision Pro is a mixed-reality headset – which the company hopes is a “revolutionary spatial computer that transforms how people work, collaborate, connect, relive memories, and enjoy entertainment” – that begins shipping to the public (in the United States)....

perishthethought,

Uhh, unless you work for Apple, on this product’s team, you’re no more informed about what it is really doing than we are. Imo, people should be concerned about this kind of technology.

perishthethought,

Wowww, super important story for all lemmy users to read and learn from. I believe the fediverse is the solution to Ello’s self-inflicted problems.

The Witness Appreciation Post

I got the urge to play the witness for the 3rd (or maybe even 4th) time again after being slightly disappointed by the Talos Principle 2, and man I cannot express enough how much I enjoy this game. It just satisfies something deep inside me every time I play it. And I know a LOT of people (probably some here) strongly dislike...

perishthethought, (edited )

EDITED: I should play The Witness again. I’ve played it once, mostly completed and loved it. I’m in the middle of the Talos Principle 2 now and want to finish it first. Come to my community and talk about what you didn’t like, OP.

perishthethought,

Huh, OK. That never crossed my mind while playing TTP / TTP2 but I can see how that would be distracting from the puzzle solving.

Funny thing is, after I finished Witness, I went back to play Braid, the earlier game by the same creator and its look & feel just never worked for me at all. So yeah

perishthethought,

It’s funny, sure, but I bet that as was targeting repair shops, not the end users of the brakes.

perishthethought,

Correction!

perishthethought,

Awww, there’s a name I haven’t heard in a long time. Thanks!

perishthethought,

I did, but yes, great to read all the details again now.

:thumbs-up

perishthethought,

Once I started an email to a client with, “Hell Janice,”.

Any Orcs Must Die fans around here? (i.imgflip.com)

I’m jonesing for these tower defense games. The first edition was released by Robot Entertainment in 2011, Orcs Must Die 2 came out in 2012, OMD Unchained (online multi-player) was from 2014 and OMD 3 was from 2020/2021. They’re all great fun and I am sad that we may never get an OMD 4. Game 1 was single-player, 2 and 3 had...

perishthethought,

I think I’ve played OMD3 the most now and right, that’s largely because of the new options, traps and weapons. Robot did a great job moving the series foreword without removing any of the fun. And the DLC just extended that a lot more.

Billy Mitchell has surrendered (perfectpacman.com)

Billy Mitchell didn’t win his defamation lawsuit against Twin Galaxies. Not only was Billy not in a position to get a financial settlement, Billy’s cheated Donkey Kong scores were not reinstated(as he’s claiming), and his claimed Pac-Man score from 1999 is also not on the main scoreboards. What had happened is that the...

perishthethought,

It was right there and you didn’t use it?

perishthethought, (edited )

It’s really easy now with tools like Hugo and services like Netlify. Check em out

perishthethought,

🤓 The Talos Principle 2 is taking up my tiny slices of gaming time. Tons of puzzles to solve, a really engaging story to unfold and the music is just beautiful. If you played the first edition (from 2009) it’s totally like that and more. I’m, only halg-way through it but yeah, it’s great and I can’t wait to see what comes next.

downloading gmails

my gmail account is full, most of the space is emails. I tried to download them through “takeout” and it has an option that says hey let’s split this up into 2GB chunks. And you select that and it sends you one 12GB .mbox file regardless. The 12GB download keeps failing and now it says you’ve already downloaded these...

perishthethought,

Same problem here, no solution. I’ll watch and see what people suggest…

perishthethought,

Me too. Great games in their era.

This might work?

www.gog.com/en/games?query=apogee&order=desc:…

perishthethought,

I just got THPS3 for windows (from Neversoft) running on my Ubuntu pc yesterday. So much fun, I find a way to play it once every ten years or so.

perishthethought,

In which era? For me it all started with Combat on the 2600 and I’ve been a vidiot ever since.

perishthethought,

It has what now? I guess I have to play it again, again.

perishthethought,

OK thanks for this info. On my next-up list when I finish The Talos Principle 2.

perishthethought,

Tower defense games are my jam, so even though they get made every so often, I always want more.

It’s unclear if the OMD maker (Robot) will ever make OMD4 so someone else needs to step in here.

perishthethought,

I will abandon windows when the games can all be played on Linux properly

Sooo… today? Sweet! Welcome to the club! :)

perishthethought,

I was gonna say - I thought this was about Scarlett. Who’s that in the picture?

perishthethought,

USican here. Everything. Our entire financial life is recorded in these reports, so we need to know what they say. There are three major companies who each track us in their own report. The government says they have to provide us with a free copy once per year. So, of course, there are scammers who bid for that search term, get people to click and then find a way to get paid for providing the report which is supposed to be free.

perishthethought,

If I did that, my 80 yo parents would be headed to w amzon . com and wallmart . com on a regular basis.

Searching first is safer for them.

perishthethought,

Is it just me, or is extending your trust even further from F-Droid maybe not a great idea?

perishthethought,

Define “better” though. More secure? Safer for me and my data in the long run? Ok, cool!

Space sim Squadron 42 is "feature-complete" and gunning for Starfield's lunch with massive new video (www.rockpapershotgun.com)

Squadron 42 is the single player campaign of Star Citizen, that is supposed to launch as a separate game. It's basically a small portion of Star Citizen, but with a story and ending. I'm still not confident; waited too long for that.

perishthethought,

Have they ever said how many people are working on this game?
