themeatbridge,

I read his comments, and it sounds like he’s advocating for appeasement. Which is much worse than a gaffe.

themeatbridge,

I mean, that was clearly what he was going for, and a news writer took the bait.

This is the kind of shit conservatives point to when they attack the “mainstream media.”

themeatbridge,

Redundancy is efficiency. No ship would operate with exactly 75 people to cover 25 stations in three shift. Either some of those stations are redundant, or you have more than 75 people. Otherwise, one illness or injury would bring down the whole system.

A switch to shorter shifts would reduce redundancy on each shift, but each worker would get more rest and be less likely to burnout or get sick, even if they have to pick up occasional double shifts until they can take on more crew.

I played the first two games, and I watched the trailer.

What are the bigots whining about?

-oh look, there’s one down below in the comments. I’ll ask them.

Edit: I asked 'em, but I received no answers. One called me a slur, but I’m not sure what else I was expecting.

themeatbridge,

What are you whining about?

themeatbridge,

What are you whining about?

themeatbridge,

When you’re rich, the law is more what you’d call “guidelines” than actual law.

War on Gaza: US courts must hold Biden accountable (www.middleeasteye.net)

While President Joe Biden recently said that “no one is above the law”, in response to guilty verdicts in former President Donald Trump’s hush-money trial, his administration is seemingly committed to shielding Israel from accountability at any cost - even if that means tearing apart the rules-based international order....

themeatbridge,

What even is this?

Even if the DCI wins this judgement (which, spoiler, they won’t) it won’t stop the US government from transferring more weapons to Israel. It would merely un-dismiss the case, which they would still lose.

And even if they won their lawsuit, it would in no way hold Biden accountable, legally, politically, or economically, for anything at all.

Why is this author trying to draw parallels between Trump’s felony convictions and this relatively inconsequential appeal of a dismissal of a lawsuit that isn’t going anywhere? I understand to the DCI and Palestinians, this is an important cause, but it’s not at all relevant to the presidential race.

Trying to shoehorn a comparison makes it seem like a right-wing hit piece. Either way, it’s garbage journalism.

themeatbridge,

OK, but that’s not what this is. Not even close.

And Trump wasn’t convicted for bribing a porn star to not tell the embarrassing story of their tryst. He was convicted of engaging in fraud to hide the payments. That’s the sort of casual attitude towards the law that makes him unfit for office.

I’ll grant you that Biden’s support for Bibi makes it difficult to support him, but Trump is an even stronger supporter of Netanyahu, and would be far worse for the Palestinian people.

themeatbridge,

You say that like Trump isn’t complicit in genocide.

themeatbridge,

Just so everyone is clear on this, the airline isn’t trying to sell to a lower market. They’re trying to normalize higher prices for standard fares. By itemizing the things that are normally included, they can pin values on all of them and then make it seem like a deal to “upgrade”.

Republican Operatives Swoop in to Help Cornel West This Election (newrepublic.com)

”This helps take away votes from Joe Biden,” the activist told one person at the rally, according to a video posted to X (formerly Twitter) by a Washington Post reporter. “We’re helping the Trump team who’s trying to get him on there,” added a woman by his side.

themeatbridge,

I’m a progressive. I like it when he debates a moron. He’s good at making an argument, and he’s not wrong about a lot of progressive issues.

But he strikes me as a diva more than a leader. He seems to want to be in the spotlight, and is willing to say something mildly unpopular with the most offensive spin possible. The only reason to do that is for attention. You won’t convince people you’re right with incendiary rhetoric, and it makes it much easier for conservatives and centrists to paint socialists as cranks.

He’s like the anti-Walter Sobchak. He’s not wrong, he’s just an asshole. He’s also often wrong, but that’s not how the line goes. Would Libertarians like Walter if he ran for president? I dunno, libertarians are all cranks so maybe they would.

Anyway, I don’t mind West running now to raise issues, but I wouldn’t vote for him in this election and I don’t know anyone else who will. He’s not siphoning support from Biden, because any reasonable progressive is voting against Trump.

themeatbridge,

Maybe, but I wouldn’t call Chappelle a progressive.

themeatbridge,

I’d vote for Bernie. I’d vote for AOC or Tlaib. I really like Cori Bush. Fetterman is my Senator, and I’ll vote for him again even though I disagree with his stance on Israel. Really, I don’t agree with anyone on Israel/Palestine, because that situation is far too nuanced to be expressed by a politician in an election year.

Also, if I had a pick, I would go with STAR voting. It’s better than RCV in almost every way.

themeatbridge,

I don’t subscribe to the belief that third party votes are “owed” to anybody. I’ve voted for third party candidates in the past, hoping to send a message to candidates from the two parties, with almost no success.

For a while, I worked as a realtor, and we would talk about the value of direct mailer postcards. The critical point was that you were trying to send a message to the recipient in the time that it took them to see your postcard and walk it over to their recycling bin. That was your window, and if your message took longer than that to digest, it was wasted.

That’s how I think of the message you send with a third party vote. The message lasts as long as it takes for the party to walk your votes over to their trashcan. Your candidate won’t win. If the message is strong, like say for instance the margin of victory is smaller than the percent of third party votes, they might remember you in the next election. Maybe. But they are just as likely to write it off as a fluke or an outlier, because that’s easier than introspection.

There are two viable parties. You can support one or the other, or neither. But there is a clear difference between the two, and while you might not like everything about one party, there’s going to be one party that stands for everything you hate.

You can vote against the party you hate, but if you don’t, you can’t really complain when they win and do everything you hate. Voting for a third party does nothing at all.

themeatbridge,

Not really. A vote for a third oarty is a vote for nobody.

themeatbridge,

If you go to a restaurant, let’s say McDonald’s, and you order something they don’t have, like oysters and pasta, you aren’t going to get what you ordered. It’s as though you haven’t ordered at all, because you won’t get it.

You might think that ordering it could let McDonald’s know that there is a demand for oysters and pasta, and maybe they will change the menu.

That won’t work.

You might think other people in the restaurant will overhear you order it and decide they want that, too.

That won’t work either.

Your order serves no purpose. Technically, you’ve asked for something, demanded it even, but you won’t get it and you never will change the restaurant or the menu that way.

Telling anyone otherwise is spreading misinformation.

themeatbridge,

They ask what you want at McDonald’s, and you can ask for anything you want. That doesn’t mean you’ll get it. The analogy is accurate.

themeatbridge,

For downballot races? Sure. If you’re voting for a state rep or some uncontested local race, every vote counts. But we’re talking about a presidential election, and under the current rules, a write in candidate will never win.

themeatbridge,

Ok but anybody with a zero inbox is just shunting off most of their mail to subfolders they will never open. That’s more organized, but it belies a general problem with email.

Also, your email client shouldn’t be loading all of your messages. It shouldn’t matter to your iPhone how many unread emails are in your inbox. If there’s something your company is doing that requires an iPhone to open 130,000 emails, then it is absolutely your company’s fault.

themeatbridge,

Vote for progressive candidates at every level. That’s what we do about it.

themeatbridge,

What if his subordinates simply volunt-

You know what, no. Fuck this bigot. Let’s not bend over backwards to accommodate his hatred and ignorance.

themeatbridge,

Be the change you want to see in the world. Use the metric system.

themeatbridge,

So you’re arguing in favor of feet and inches?

themeatbridge,

All of those criticisms are fixed with STAR voting.

themeatbridge,

You’re right. I’m just pointing out that even the bullshit reasons are easily dismissed.

But conservatives aren’t arguing in good faith. They don’t sincerely believe that alternative voting options are bad, they believe they are bad for conservatives.

themeatbridge,

Just so everyone is on the same page, there are two types of Americans: those that don’t believe the lies of a sitting Supreme Court justice, and those that are really happy thay they don’t believe the lies of a sitting Supreme Court justice.

themeatbridge,

You’ve already put more thought into it than anyone involved in the production.

Most likely they just didn’t want to pay two more women.

themeatbridge,

Kids know when their parents are full of shit.

themeatbridge,

It hadn’t occurred to me yet that if he gets probation, he will have a probation officer. Honestly, I can’t imagine he cooperates with that process. Like he might show up for the interview, but he’s not going to be contrite or apologize for his conspicuous contempt for the court. He won’t comply with requirements to clear travel plans or list his associates.

Jail time might be even better for his campaign than probation. At least the eyes of the world will be on him in prison, and he can make speeches and send letters via surrogates for the campaign. The press will be writing ligistical stories for weeks, how does he campaign, how does he fundraise, which Aryan gang will he join, where do the secret service agents sleep.

Being on probation, he’ll be under scrutiny and could just as likely end up violating and end up in jail for non-compliance anyway. Every story will be about how this statement or that rally might have been a violation.

themeatbridge,

I could be wrong, but I think drug tests on probation are at the discretion of the probation officer. There are stories about pills in the White House, but the probation officer might not feel that drug tests are warranted.

On the other hand, he does have to submit to drug testing if requested. He also must cooperate with law enforcement.

themeatbridge,

Brakes?! Ahmahgud I thought you said “breaks.” Breaks is included, yes. Breaks, no brakes. No brakes cause many breaks, will be for sure many breaks included because no brakes. For you, I throw in wipers free of charge. Wipe wipe, see good what you gonna hit.

themeatbridge,

If anyone is factored out of the equation, it’s those low-information voters who don’t follow the news.

themeatbridge,

I lived through it, and even as kids we all agreed the N64 controller was weird and illogical. But we got used to it and it was not a hurdle or a detriment to the console. You could tell if people had played before if they held the center grip or the left grip.

themeatbridge,

The nunchuck was sublime (when it worked), but the ergonomics of the wiimote were ridiculous. Pointing at the screen required an unnatural wrist angle that wasn’t sustainable for long gaming sessions, and trying to turn it horizontal to use as a standard controller was simply ass.

themeatbridge,

Pot, meet kettle.

themeatbridge,

You should report back up the chain that “lawfair” isn’t catching on. Your handlers should feed you a new talking point.

themeatbridge,

Ooh, I bet there’s some really yummy looking food inside that very boring looking tortilla.

themeatbridge,

Murdoch was most recently married to former supermodel Jerry Hall. The couple divorced in 2022.

In March 2023, Murdoch proposed to Ann Lesley Smith but the engagement was called off two weeks later.

Bruv doesn’t waste a minute.

themeatbridge,

It looks like just the soundtrack and artbook. No game.

themeatbridge,

The crossover to end all crossovers, hopefully.

themeatbridge,

One where a bunch of Gumbys are just improvising.
