wildbus8979,

I’m so glad we fought for democracy in Korea! 🙏

wildbus8979,

I think you missed the joke buddy.

wildbus8979, (edited )

I know about the Korean war

In typical American fashion it doesn’t sound like you do. Contrary to the claim that it was a war for democracy, South Korea was a US backed dictatorship until the late 80s.

We murdered over 2 million people in the process.

wildbus8979, (edited )

Sounds like you’re ignoring the material conditions that led to the current situation in the DPRK. Sounds like your ignoring that the DPRK’s standards of living were higher until the famine the sanctions created in the 90s. Sounds like you’re just going to excuse the brutal regime of Park Chung Hee.

wildbus8979,

So let me ask the usual question: why not Debian?

wildbus8979, (edited )

Because for the most part you can achieve everything these packaged distro offer without the middle man, which means greater trust in the system, faster turnaround on package updates, easier time finding help, etc.

wildbus8979,

as less-engaged young voters spurn Biden.

Is it that I don’t appeal to people? No! It must be the voters who are less engaged!

wildbus8979,

I’m more impressed the numbers are this low.

wildbus8979,

This going to sound super far fetch, I know… But one can identify a problem without knowing the solution. OP isn’t running for president.

wildbus8979,

None is my first choice, Literally Anybody Else is my second.

wildbus8979,

You got downvoted, but if Palestinians are constantly held in military prisons and convicted by military court, it goes to reason that they should be considered as combatants for other purposes as well.

Egypt charges pro-Palestine protesters with 'spreading fake news' (www.middleeasteye.net)

Egyptian security forces on Thursday detained 10 young men who took part in a protest that denounced Egypt’s role in the siege on Gaza. They are facing charges of “collaborating with a terrorist group” and “spreading and publishing fake news”....

wildbus8979,

What will you do for a Klondike bara few millions in American weapons.

U.S. approved more bombs to Israel on day of World Central Kitchen strikes (www.washingtonpost.com)

The State Department approved the transfer of more than 1,000 MK82 500-pound bombs, over 1,000 small-diameter bombs, and fuses for MK80 bombs, all from authorizations granted by Congress several years before the latest hostilities between Israel and Hamas began, said the U.S. officials, who like others spoke on the condition of...

wildbus8979,

Get over yourselves

wildbus8979,

I mean even if that is true (it probably is, marginally), all the Dems are doing is keeping the ratchet turning right by ignoring at best, and neutering at worst, the left.

wildbus8979, (edited )

No no assure you, everyone who hates Biden is either MAGA or a Russian bot. It cannot have anything to do with his long, long, political history like supporting the Iraq war, supporting NAFTA, worsening the student loan situation by excluding them from personal bankruptcy, his crime bills that drastically increased the imprisonment of POC minorities, his introduction of the original patriot act and strong endorsement of its final form, his ratcheting up of Trump’s border policy, his lying about having seen decapitated dead babies, lying about having been arrested to see Nelson Mandela, voting for a constitutional amendment to allow states to overturn Roe v Wade, or his voting to to end federal funding to provide abortions to victims of rape and incest, supporting capital punishment until 2019, and on and on and on. No, it’s Russian bots! That’s the only logical explanation!

wildbus8979,

You’re not really the ding dong you claim to be, I hope you know that friend! 🖤

America’s new high-risk, high-reward $20 billion climate push | In an ambitious effort to fight climate change, the EPA is assisting local groups in financing clean-energy projects (wapo.st)

The Environmental Protection Agency on Thursday awarded $20 billion to help finance clean-energy projects across the country, marking one of the Biden administration’s biggest investments in combating climate change and curbing pollution in disadvantaged communities.

Kind of disengenous to call what is essentially micro loans to install EV chargers an infrastructure investment… EV chargers which are gonna use the same dirty electricity sources (yes better than ICE cars but still not that great).

Could have built two whole ass nuclear power plants with that money instead.

Meanwhile China installed more solar in 2023 than the US did in its entire history, have twenty nuclear plants currently in construction. Has offset who knows how many miles of car transportation with thousands of miles of high speed rails built in the last decade or so.

wildbus8979,

synapse-energy.com/…/SynapsePaper.2008-07.0.Nucle…

Companies that are planning new nuclear units are currently indicating that the total costs (including escalation and financing costs) will be in the range of $5,500/kW to $8,100/kW or between $6 billion and $9 billion for each 1,100 MW plant.

These estimated costs translated into a projected total cost of $12.1 billion to $17.8 billion, for just two 1100 MW plants.

wildbus8979,

What’s your point exactly? That we shouldn’t do it because they cost money?

Doesn’t change that this is a stupid loan and not real infrastructure investment, and that it is unlikely to have a significant impact on climate change. Performative.

wildbus8979,

Fine, they could have built one nuclear power plant and maintained one existing one. Happy?

wildbus8979,

That’s fine, but we need the capacity for it, we need investment in production and transport and those are the investment that local level governance can’t make, unlike EV charging stations. And without those, these EV charging stations will only go so far.

wildbus8979,

On the other hand he’s approved more new oil drilling than Trump.

…politicopro.com/…/biden-administration-oil-drill…

President Joe Biden has approved nearly 50 percent more oil and gas drilling permits for wells on federal land since taking office than former President Donald Trump did in his first three years, according to newly released data from the Interior Department.

Funny how c/climate isn’t posting that part.

wildbus8979,

Sure, but before that he held the single largest oil rights auction in US history, right after COP26 no less.

newsweek.com/biden-admin-set-auction-off-over-80-…

The Biden administration is preparing to sell off more than 80 million acres of the Gulf of Mexico to oil and gas drilling companies in the largest federal offshore drilling auction in U.S. history—less than a week after the UN climate change conference COP26

The 80 million acres on sale is expected to produce around 1.12 billion barrels of oil and 4.2 trillion cubic feet of natural gas over the next 50 years.

Fact check: Trump falsely claims US crime stats are only going up. Most went down last year, including massive drop in murder (www.cnn.com)

Former President Donald Trump falsely claimed on Tuesday that US crime statistics are “only” going up. In fact, most US crime numbers went down last year – and the decreases included one of the largest national declines in murder ever recorded....

wildbus8979,

I saw dead and decapitated babies with my own eyes.

I agree with you though

wildbus8979,

Whoever drew this deserves eternal damnation!

wildbus8979, (edited )

Robertson is fine, much much better than Philips, and cheaper to manufacture than torx.or hex.

wildbus8979,

Well here’s a novel idea for you Mélanie, gather the plentiful evidence, and take it to the ICC.

wildbus8979, (edited )

Also why is Reuters lying by omission? It says aid workers were killed by “an airstrike”, no Reuters, aid workers, and their rescuers, were killed by THREE SUCESSIVE air strikeS. And yes, it absolutely does matter, since double tapping is a very specific war crime.

wildbus8979,

This is gonna be super far fetch, but hear me out… Debian…

wildbus8979, (edited )

Honestly if OP just wants straight up productivity, I’d go with stable. They won’t have to deal with constant updates and have a stable user experience for some time. They can use flatpak to have the latest and greatest productivity software if they need. But my guess is that one or one and a half year old LibreOffice/Inkscape/Gimp will be more than sufficient.

wildbus8979,

It’s both really, but investment firms are certainly a bigger, growing, threat

wildbus8979,

Yes, but that’s not gonna fly with the capitalists.

Also less high density, more medium density please. That’s how you get dense but livable places like Montreal.

wildbus8979, (edited )

Don’t leave Canada behind, poor Mulroney doesn’t want to feel alone in his grave when he could be with his buddies partying at the gender neutral bathroom!

wildbus8979, (edited )

You won’t get a rebuttal from me, fuck that guy, or as he once told the striking postal workers: eat shit.

wildbus8979,

😘

wildbus8979,

What exactly are you trying to accomplish?

wildbus8979,

Look into either X forward or Xpra. No need to run a GUI at all, you can run only the browser itself.

X forwarding will require a little more setup: docs.cse.lehigh.edu/xforwarding/xforwarding-win/ (first link I found on google)

Xpra would be just an app installed on the client (and server)

wildbus8979,

X11 Fordwarding isn’t xRDP though. You don’t need a full blown graphical session to run.

superuser.com/…/setting-up-x11-forwarding-over-ss…

I wouldn’t install Mint for production either, I’d use something like Debian stable or Fedora.

wildbus8979,

I’m not super familiar with Citrix, but yeah kinda.

wildbus8979,

You can look at the video I posted in the comment and see for yourself. All the windows are broken on the building behind it and on the side of the Iranian embassy, it’d be absolutely miraculous if the other building flanking the assassination site wasn’t somewhat damaged. Even if it isn’t, this is incredibly callous.

You seriously have no issues with a foreign state blowing something up right next to you? By I meant to ask, how that boot leather, any good?

wildbus8979, (edited )

GAC didn’t say whether Israel checked with Canada to ensure that no Canadian personnel were on site when the airstrike hit.

So they didn’t. There’s no reason to refuse to answer this question if they had.

Thanks for posting this update!
