I first joined Lemmy back during the big Reddit exodus of last year. I like many others wanted an alternative to Reddit, and I thought that this might’ve been the one. I made two accounts, one on lemmy.world and another on sh.itjust.works, in the June of last year that I used on and off for about 4 months....
I feel like we need to talk about Lemmy’s massive tankie censorship problem. A lot of popular lemmy communities are hosted on lemmy.ml. It’s been well known for a while that the admins/mods of that instance have, let’s say, rather extremist and onesided political views. In short, they’re what’s colloquially referred to...
Ok, so one of the bigger problems I see on Lemmy is the fact that I subscribe to dozens of different communities, but my feed is always the same. News news news technology technology technology....
For all your boycotting needs. I’m sure there’s some mods caught in lemmy.ml’s top 10 that are perfectly upstanding and reasonable people, my condolences for the cross-fire....
After a year online the free speech-focused instance ‘Burggit’ is shutting down. Among other motivations, the admins point to grievances with the Lemmy software as one of the main reasons for shutting down the instance. In a first post asking about migrating to Sharkey, one of the admins states:...
Mastodon is a great platform. I have an account there, and I have been using it as a twitter replacement for several months. I have been using nostr for around two months. I have also read fairly deeply into how Mastodon and Nostr work. I think nostr is better. Here’s why....
Do you think Threads (Meta’s Product) will add such a feature that allowed anyone to migrate their account to their own server? I have no belief that they’ll do, but I can only hope, as I love that feature on Fediverse platforms (mastodon comes to mind)....
Following the other thread (550 upvotes and 366 comments at the moment: lemmy.world/post/16211417), one of the complaints that people had what that some communities only exist on lemmy.ml and don’t have alternatives on other instances....
How is the size of Lemmy’s userbase changing? Is it growing or shrinking? How diverse is it? What do the current trendlines look like as we approach a year since Rexxit?...
Harry Potter Fandoms will be a part of the Fediverse one way or the other. It’s better to shape this development rather than being overwhelmed by it....
Please post one top-level comment per complaint about Lemmy. You can reply with ideas or links to existing GitHub issues that could address the complaints. This will help identify both common complaints and potential solutions....
I have an account on Spectra but it seems I cannot access a lot of videos on other instances. What’s the best one that I can see videos from across instances. Thanks!
Cos if so why can I see a whole bunch of mod actions on the lemmy.ml mod-log but not here? If it doesn’t how/why would any other instance respect a moderation action by another instance let alone know about it?
[UPDATE] Thank you for your comments but I found that Write Freely was well on paper but not funny to set up (self hosting) and maybe a little dead. I found that bearblog.dev met the specifications well. Although it is not integrated into the Fediverse, it is free and respectful of privacy!...
