As somebody who produces content (with a full time job so not as often as I like) it’s so much harder to get engagement on mastodon without the algorithm tbh. I’m trying to get my name out there but engagement is slim to none compared to say, Instagram. I’m not on Twitter but both BlueSky and Mastodon have been a struggle. I don’t see myself devoting too much energy into them as far as posting content goes tbh.

And saying from the perspective of a content creator, that’s an issue that’s hard to overlook. So mastodon won’t get to that point of having all the content creators if there isn’t something to help them share their content. I don’t know what the solution would be, maybe a separate feed with an algorithm that people can switch to if they want.

Edit: and the antisocial comments below is why mastodon will never take off with the larger population and therefore never really compete with Twitter, Threads, or BlueSky for content.

I’m pretty sure the games are still there but in HTML5 now, I remember logging in again a couple of years back and they were there at least.

Not that I know of there isn't. But I'm slowly coming back to creating after taking a two year hiatus so I'd be very interested in joining a community like that!

Yeah I'm not sure if Beehaw would make a community for that tbh. (mods/admins feel free to correct this) They just did a survey like two-ish weeks ago (?) which asked the Beeple what communities should be added. It also might be considered too spammy/self-promotey for Beehaw? I know that's not generally their vibe. But it could be made on another instance that allows you to create your own communities if you were super inclined to get that started? You'd have at least one subscriber if you did haha (it me, I'm subscriber).

I didn't mean to imply it was a bad idea, on the contrary, I think it's a great idea and something I'd like to be a part of. I just wasn't sure what a small content creator community would look like if not self promotion and boosting each other.

It could pertain to issues they're having as a content creator, but that's going to vary widely depending on the content they're making. If it's a twitch streamer like yourself specific questions might be better suited to the Gaming community. If it's for art/writing content creation (like me) issues/questions might be better suited for the Creative community.

That's more what I meant, what would the small content creator community look like that couldn't already be better served by the specific content communities? And how would we prevent it from becoming a ladder of self promotion?

Oh okay, I think I misunderstood. You're not wanting to make a community for the general sense of content creators (ex: writing, poetry, comics, blogging, animation, etc.) but more so a community centered around streamers specifically.

That makes more sense! I think that a community like that could be made if enough people on Beehaw wanted it? Idk the answer to that though.

lemmy.world will definitely give you a bigger pool of potential subscribers to pull from but Beehaw is defederated from lemmy.world at the moment. So people from Beehaw couldn't participate until we refederate with them.

There was like, a whole thing. I still see memes from lemmy.world users about it whenever I log into that account lol. To summarize, Lemmy moderation tools kinda suck for the time being and to maintain the chill Beehaw atmosphere it was easier to defederate until better mod tools get developed because they have open registration so a lot of trolls and bad actors from lemmy.world were coming into Beehaw bein' dicks.

Divisions by zero has some good vibes from what I've experienced and federated with pretty much everyone that I know of. Their main focus is piracy but they allow you to create your own community so there's things like Silly Cats and Screenwriting on there already.

I'm still rocking my PS4 Pro and haven't felt the need to upgrade to the PS5 yet. Plenty of good games on there and a lot of the new ones still release to PS4 too. There's cool exclusives on PS5 but not $500 cool exclusives imo. Well, closer to $600 after purchasing the game. So I'll continue to wait to upgrade. I'd say go for it because you can have a lot of fun on the PS4 still.

Before everyone freaks out, this has zero impact on our communities. Chill.

They can already do this by bringing content from Mastodon to Meta platforms via links and screen grabs, this only speeds up the process.

Personally, I love that they’re not federating day one. Because I don’t want any instances I use to federate with them, I don’t want to be connected to a Meta platform unless I deliberately go to a Meta platform to use it.

To expedite the process, Mastodon instances should just defederate from them entirely. Don’t let them access that data through ActivityPub. They can build their own platform on the Fediverse and we can have our network of smaller connected instances.

Them doing this does not affect our communities unless we let it. Defederate from them and we can go on our merry way and they can have their own ad laden instance that’s not connected.

Everyone, relax. Continue building your communities here and ignore Meta in their unconnected instances.

I dropped $90 wayyyyy back in the day and still have my login. I install it again every once in a while to see how things are progressing. Can't believe how slow the gameplay progress is but I will say the work they've done on the engine is really cool. But like... That's not why I backed the game. I'm not mad about the game, I've had my fun testing it out over the years and I like the idea of what it could be, I just don't expect it to be finished anymore.

Yeah I'm not saying it'll never happen, I'm just not hyped for it getting finished like I was in the past.

I got my founders towel in my hanger and a sweet leather interior general purpose spaceship, I'll be ready whenever it does decide to launch.
