PenguinTD,

It’s the end point modem+router. It’s like saying removing the landline phone from people’s house without destroy the exchange boxes would cripple communication. It’s not cause they are easily replaced.

PenguinTD,

I think honestly they might be looking to have their own platform on PC one day to not paying the platform fee.

if they keep using steam backend for part of their PC framework, they will pay a lot more in the end, compare to invest now take some flames and properly push for their account backend on PC WHILE have steam’s market place/distribution work for them.

Don’t get me wrong, Sony already have the capability to server digital contents to all the PS5s, but it’s a closed system and no worry about hacking etc as much compare to PC.

PenguinTD,

you forget the amount of time needed to bake Quake translucent water patch.

PenguinTD,

It took me so long to bake all the maps and future map updates from Mods(threewave mostly) and publish on our dorm FTP. People that still play on CPU is at disadvantage for sure.

But after a while anyone that plays 3d game already have one. It basically trickle down to other players. (ie my voodoo1 was sold cheap to one of my friends back then when I got the voodoo2.)

PenguinTD,

It depends on how the studio signed the publishing contract and should they part ways, who owns the IP. But if the game loop is proven good and have fan base to sustain a studio, someone will take the torch if the game was shut by publisher.

PenguinTD,

I’m willing to double dip just to roam the world with my ultrawide oled again, I’ve never really touched the coop mode anyway in Ps4 and then later PS5’s remaster. I want to support the studio and I hope the Helldivers 2 event sends Sony a clear enough message. It’s only 2 days in and they will be monitoring metric etc. Remember how well that reddit blackout worked? But this time, steam seems to willing to refund for those delisted countries no issue, so players in those region can hit Sony in the pocket. (and sadly, AH as well. )

PenguinTD,

You can even skip the whole suite if you don’t need the AMD per game driver tweaks. OBS now come with direct AMD av1 support and also can record HDR content.(which relive can’t do.)

PenguinTD,

the creations are really small if I remember correctly, they are like kilobytes or things put together in a container. (there are maximum objects limits for the creation as well. ) I don’t know the max amount of favorite you can keep though, haven’t played the ps3 ones for quite a while.

PenguinTD,

well, I am not good but consider I can usually finish all the combo trainings 100% so my execution is quite okay. (I quit fighting game cause the button tapping is quite noisy, so no more fighting game after my son was born. )

  • street fighter have a couple arch type, ryu/ken is shoto and they have actually different play style even though their basics looks similar.
  • for any fighting game the distance that your opponent’s attack can reach is very important. a good player can simply whiff punish you and throw jabbing you because you don’t understand the +/- etc after a blocked/whiffed attack.
  • hit confirm is also important, which means a simple combo that you can start when you have advantage, but not too “negative” when it’s blocked. (training mode can show these info) Where the first 23 hit of your combo is safe and once you get better and landing those 23 hit combo, pick something that allows you to cancel into special moves, knock down or throw(which is also a down). All the more fancy complex combo is not really useful if you can’t even land a 2~3 hit combo on opponent.
  • punishing specific match up’s bad move, ie. a fireball at wrong distance allows opponent to jump in and lands full combo out of it. you have to do training mode a lot and study your match up.
  • and finally, study the neutral game, where both side starts from distance that all normal attacks are out of range, what can you do from that point of space and what opponent’s char can do from their space. If you keep getting beat by opponent’s certain move, rewatch the replay, check their input, record that input to a training dummy, and find what you can do as counter.

It’s a huge time sink and there are also cheaters(on pc specifically), so good luck.

PenguinTD,

If you only play old games for story mode, the CPU read inputs so you are gonna have a bad time anyway if you don’t exploit their tendencies. Don’t spam fire ball cause I think by the 2nd or 3rd match you start to getting jumped on. In fact, if you know how to do anti air(couch heavy punch from Ken) with proper timing you can beat the run pretty easily except char with command grab.

Like for CPU don’t even try complex input, read on internet for most basic punish(like empty jump in and then throw against zoner) cause throw is really high damage & strong in SF2. If you push them to wall then you do the light punch fireball with some distance to bait them to jump over then do your punish.

PenguinTD,

if you mean the dive then just standing medium kick with proper spacing, if you are on emu you can snap shot the match or add more token and just practice anti air if it jump and dive from mid distance.

PenguinTD,

Merge needs some stomp, yeah, mine stomp yours.

edit: note, this is a good thing, cause then we both have unlimited supply of tickets.

PenguinTD,

thanks lemmy and now I know what it is and doesn’t have to watch. ;)

PenguinTD,

which is really odd consider that they just released a console HDR patch and says they are working toward releasing FSR3.1 for both console and PC “soon”.

PenguinTD,

care to expand on this more? I do know Squad seems to have a quite community split update but since I don’t focus heavy on milsim so I just take whatever youtuber presented and said. ST:E is still EA and judging from the last live stream they seem to bite the bullet hard upgrading to UE5, but engine upgrade is always hard but should pay dividends later down the road. Especially for a EA game, I think the general expectation for game to just blow up fro EA is really odd. Look at say BG3 or Hades during EA, they don’t have that high player count as well even though they are made by more well know devs than Offworld.

PenguinTD,

I go look up and woah, Squad is almost 10 years old, next year would be it if including EA time. seems received quite okay with recent reviews on steam. DLC seems to be cosmetics only, I guess they need those extra cash from community haha. I don’t remember the mod drama, but if that’s the case the modder can just sue them for sure. (I do know they bought the Australian faction from modder if remembered correctly. )

I do think the ST:E xp wipe is justified and they do manage to keep career xp/level. If not I’d settle with some unique title or decal that only EA people get before 0.7 for their contribution. I mean EA player are basically paying alpha/beta customers that are willing to tolerate big changes/crashes/issues if it’s better for the future release. I think ST:E and Helldivers 2 are fundamentally different games and ST:E is just really rough on the mechanics side(since it was a squad mod originally), I have hope as it’s always one of my fantasy to shoot waves of bug and climb over their bodies since the movie. And just 4 players with orbital strikes doesn’t really fit that scenario of squads getting thrown into meat grinder. (yes, I also wish they can support more > 16 players ) It would be fucking insane if we can play 100 players against thousands of bugs. Actually, I’d settle with 64 as the game mechanism and enemy spawn now can’t sustain that many players doing coop and many player would get nothing to shoot with. well, man can dream, :P

PenguinTD,

ST:E servers also crash at times so it’s not HD2 only feature. XD

I just want them to get MORE bugs(like way more, I know it’s more than what HD2 currently sustains, but with dedicated server they should be able to do more), MORE player support(>16, preferably have 32/64 players missions), and if bugs can fucking pile up like in movie I’d buy whatever cosmetic they have in store post launch.

If bug spawn is scalable to player count in the mission that would help as well, like a L4D AI director that spawns enemies depending on the difficulty slider and how well they are doing. We will see after today’s update.

PenguinTD,

I wish that in the future developer can just host their own game with very minimum cost/overhead unless they really need some platform’s backend feature. (multiplayer game mostly.)

For single player game I really don’t see why it is so difficulty to host (even torrent it) would be a hard thing to do. During the shareware/pre-steam days where you may have downloaded the full game with a soft lock, I’ve played a whole game and then try find way to send my money as well. (was not living in NA at that time and there was no guarantee that a game will be imported with official vendor.)

PenguinTD,

Yeah, but at the same time, people are “NOT” going to pay for it won’t pay for it anyway. You might as well establish your player/fan base. Like even if you give me say, Suicide Squad for free I still won’t add it to my library.

PenguinTD,

I paid and still get peppered with their promotion. So I stopped paying, then if it gets worse I will uninstall and use the web app as you can block elements with the ad blockers. (so even site hosted stuff you can single out elements to block. )

edit: yeah, unfortunately I can’t really just stop using it entirely, until my regular group server and some of the game’s server move somewhere else.

PenguinTD,

vs the linear plot AI, yeah, it’s super boring consider how OP the main character is. It really depends on how they execute the multiplayer side of thing as seen by the success of Helldivers 2. I honestly think that would be a cool coop/pvp game during my play through and fell short be cause the variety of the “gun” is lacking and perks are RNG based. The time limited mission kept repeating and gets boring after a while, so I just beeline and finished the story and post game(including DLC).

PenguinTD,

in short, the market is formed by the money spent and what kind of product people buy. Simply don’t buy the stuff you don’t want, and spend actual money on things you want. People need to learn that their own preference does not reflect the actual statistic distribution on what others find “worthy” of their money.

PenguinTD,

I got AC:Odyssey during one of the sale cause I dig Greek mythology, had to get cheat engine and spare me the grind for upgrading gears and ship. Like sure you can just keep picking up randomly dropped Epic/Rare and replacement them when you leveling up(there are even player quest that put in specific spot to give you resource for those upgrades, just so other players can farm it) But I ain’t get any time for that, I just cheat engine in max out resource and upgrade my Legendary gears I found through out the game. And you know what? By the end of the game(and I didn’t find every Legendary, like maybe 60~70% of them) it would take me setting the resource to max twice to fully upgrade all my legendary + epic(with perks I like) gears. It would take probably months of my gaming time should I got it on console and can not use cheat engine.

No, upgrade gear is not required to finish the game. But after this experience I decides to never get another Ubisoft AC game nor any RPG on console or with always online feature(which means all transaction are done and authenticated to prevent cheating. ) I’ve done plenty open world, RPG, Monster Hunters without having to cheat. But the recent single player grinding + selling time saver booster pack make me whip out the cheat engine again. And I only cheat those stupid resource gating game that are designed to pad hours in to your play through.

PenguinTD,

Yeah, they know they are doing though, they are aiming for those that work 9-5 have life and kids and some spare changes and milk them hard. Like this game would take 200 hours to complete fully with X hundreds of hours of post game content that was designed to make your grind, but you can also pay for this [xp booster, resource pack, legendary set, etc] to make sure you can enjoy the post game content if you don’t have the time to grind the game how it’s “meant to be played”.

In my AC:Odessey example, I think at one point the designer might be doing a heavy zelda influenced where you just pick up stuff enemies dropped and the blacksmiths are there for you to repair items broken as resource dump. (which make sense and very fitting of that era and how resource would work) But once that MTX department put their finger in now you have a derailed system. There is a spread sheet that list the hours required to upgrade a legendary piece to which level, and recommended level to get them(as their starting level is fixed and not like the enemy droppped item that matches your level), I saw the numbers and downloaded the cheat engine table the next hour.

PenguinTD,

Because FSR3 is really new, released Sep 2023. Even the games that actually can patch in FSR3 didn’t get to do it properly until Avatar nailed it and just earlier this month released another update to push it further. In short, AMD is working with devs to improve their plugin integration to various engine devs, and I don’t think 3.1 is the “end goal”.

FSR 3’s result really depends on how developer understand and work with the proposed render pipeline compare to DLSS(which basically runs AI kernal to guess what pixel values to fill). Especially with games that features pip scope(fake UI scopes with on the fly fov changes are fine) or some translucent elements where it can not do the velocity buffer properly. (basically most of the fringeness on edge or flickering/swimming are mostly from precision, and ghosting are from wrong velocity when you see the old FSR artifacts).

PenguinTD,

cause commercial rental is a commitment, if you can’t find another company to take over your lease, chances are you have to pay the majority of left over amount + penalty + restoration. Licensor commitments are similar but probably on tech/software licensing, ie. server rentals, Maya/Speedtree licensing agreement for the site, whatever cloud service they use for backup and share stuff, etc. Those at bigger scale aren’t paid year to year like your regular indie studio just subscribe to Adobe/Autodesk for app uses per seat.

How Do You Deal With Thumb Stick Drift?

So I like to use Xbox controllers (doesn’t matter if it’s first- or third-party) because I like the layout, it’s just comfortable to me. However I’ve noticed that on all my controllers in the past few years, the left thumb stick will start to “give out” over the course of a couple months. For instance I’ll be...

PenguinTD,

I don’t know which one you get but but there was a batch/period where the chinese made ones have really bad QA cause they are rushing productions for the hall effect sensor sticks. Usually it’s pretty easy to get replacement if you got a bad one. (just that the shipping time you have to wait. some vendor doesn’t even require you to send the broken one back. )

there is a joystick test website: gamepadtest.comif you test with your controller and record video to prove their stick is pointing wrong way, you should have a good case to ask for replacement.

I got the Gamesir T4 Cyclone Pro, it’s working really well for me except sometimes it disconnect when playing RL.( maybe it detects it’s fully charged and tries to protect it’s battery or something, hopefully there will be firmware update to fix it. or maybe it’s RL’s fault as I play other games with controller without issue for 2+ hours long session. all connected wired, not wireless. )

PenguinTD,

yeah the 10/30/45/45s delay is not actually a queue, in fact might actually be extra burden to the connection/login system where given enough player “waiting” they are triggering themselves with massive amount of login requests.

there are already PC utility the generate self invites without modify the game or inject.

I hope it works fine as last night was really smooth, however weekend is not guaranteed for sure.

PenguinTD,

get a time where the steam player count is lowest then use that time to buy/upgrade stuff, while your regular time just grinds away.

PenguinTD,

Well, they really need to nail the post launch fixes and still balance on content updates. I like this game a lot but the mission type is pretty limited at the moment. Also because of how they balance the game and weapon stratagem, even high difficulty level it is possible to solo the game. With the exception of 2 player required vault door. No other part of the game actually requires a full squad. The only thing that increase the likelihood that high difficulty needs more teammates and communication is the double cool down of stratagem and maybe future modifier that limits how much damage a solo player can dish out. And there is no real penalty if you missed the shuttle, as long as mission objectives are done, you at most lost a couple samples and some irrelevant XP and in game currency.

PenguinTD,

As the victim of the AMD 7000 series crashes, after tweak my settings through community help and my personal adaptation the crash is almost non-existent now. While the game can still be jank at times, it’s probably the best coop game by a mile. As the difficulty ramping up, more and more coordination is required, long wolfing will rarely work against some harder objectives as you would be required to do split works “while” defending the “operator” and objective area. There are plenty of mission type when level goes higher as well. To unlock better ship module upgrades requires mission samples you have to extract with the divers. That pretty much require you to explore more during mission, expose you to more risk, and make the mission time go longer. It’s very risk and reward and require on the fly decision making, almost all the time and plan can all be thrown off the table if people make very innocent mistakes. (like running away from enemies and ended up attracting even more enemies.)

If you are not fan of unstable stuff, maybe wait a month or 2, but IMO it’s very fun especially if you find groups of people to work together.

PenguinTD,

bro I got you, they are restructure the support forum on discord but I downloaded my settings before they remove those.

imgur.com/a/1yMlP2y

PenguinTD,

I strongly suggest using official discord’s lfg thread/channel to look for a group in your timezone. MM can work but you don’t know how they are gonna play the game. In my experience public lobby is really hit and miss, but the pre-formed group, even with play style difference, with communication and adaptation it is way more fun. Just have some common goals to work with, like the daily personal order, the things you want to unlock, etc and every one helping each other out is best.

PenguinTD,

It’s fine really, and honestly have that group somewhere helps your enjoyment a lot even if it’s just one mission and you have to leave. There are plenty mission types to choose from with variable length of mission time across different difficulty levels. Like I am not the most grindy guy in my group(the top grinder is already over lv30 while I am only lv17.) And most of the base weapon from the free warbond you can unlock remain pretty decent as well. (one of the best guns so far is in the free warbond and only on page 4)

There are plenty causal groups as well, much better than randomly public lobby IMO.

  1. public lobby the host can kick you and you waste all the time you sink into the mission.
  2. public lobby doesn’t really limit region that well and your connection heavily relies on host’s internet. So if you ever want to do pub games, host yourself so you are in control.
  3. discord is somewhat more tie to the account socially so people will behave a bit better than publish match making.
  4. there are on the fly lfg as well. plenty of options.

like this on official lfg channel:

https://lemmy.ca/pictrs/image/ed9e8af7-dc19-4f4f-a281-f6af96cf295a.png

PenguinTD,

It’s fine, lol, enjoy other parts of life is also important too. I don’t think you will lose any content as how they design their unlocks are pretty much only tie to play time and challenge yourself. I even saw some video of player finish highest difficulty missions solo. The shortest mission is like 10 mins and maximum is 40 mins.

PenguinTD,

I already post a bit before and got down vote a lot and I laugh in their face and tell them to stick their fingers somewhere private if they check the news a month later. And no, it’s not even a month, the stock crash happened in less than a week and soften stance “open for communication” quote arrived shortly after.

They are trying to do this to prop some social distractions as always but this time, also like past couple times involving youth and video games, back fires hard and eventually achieves very little. (for general population) But hey, it generate enough buzz and make them distracted from other economical issues.(like crash of their builder mega company, compare to the short market crash of video game sector, lol. )

Yes, rage baiting works.

PenguinTD,

Yeah, the title is pretty much just written that way to have that shock factor.

PenguinTD,

Ubisoft does not have enough new games releasing that’s in good enough state to justify 7.99 per month let along 17.99 per month. I bet there are terms and trickery if people tried to do 17.99 and play games like new Prince of Persia and Avatar and then unsub. (that’s my cynical side coming out, but it’s ubisoft. )

Or, for ubisoft, you wait a couple month and then boom, big sale for the game released 1~2 months ago.

PenguinTD,

Hate to say this but what a big blob of BS because the ownership class find out pretty early that if no one else is making money to buy the shits they make, they can’t make more money. (We will skip the pre 1900 slavery scenario, as they can just force you to work and just keep you alive is enough as slaves are “production equipment” like cows/horses. )

People generate value if they do or make something other people want, currency invented to cover that value gap so supply, demand, skill and rarity, efficiency and many different quality of your work/product/service decides how many $ you get when people want your service. At least, that’s how it all should be in equal footing. But since money == power when the scale goes up, since ancient time successful merchants holds a lot influence in politics and cause unbalance in wealth distribution. They can only push it so far until they get hunting down and stuff taken, but usually by other influential political/business figures that does the raids.

Having said the above, a lot of small and medium scale business owners values their employees a lot, especially those that truly have the skill set that compliments their business. And, do I need to remind you to do a bit of study of history, the invention of machines, tele-communication and then the boom of computers(especially general purpose ones), yet global population keeps going up and up instead of all starved to death cause the jobs these past things replaced?

And, just to do a quick review of how much people hates the automated phone support menu system transition from traditional to modern voice recognition ones. Or how many internet goer hates the auto generated useless pages plague our search result and provide nothing useful, waste our time click and read just to serve some ads? Yeah, like many worried before, what if computer replaced our jobs? Well, they need people to make the computer work. AI isn’t going to be fully automated and self improve, we are pretty far from that. many successful model needs guided training, and usually prevents additional feedback into the system to avoid degrading the performance.

PenguinTD,

IMO, it’s hard to claim best game of all time unless it ages well, and not just some unique gimmick the game provided at the time.

Ie, I don’t like Tetris but for sure it is one of the best game of all time.

However, if what you mean is good games that somewhat get outshined by others or lacks media attentions, then I agree. There are plenty of other games, and I think people would have bias toward their favorite genre/type.

PenguinTD,

that’s why I argue you can’t put “best” and “all time” together. If the title says “best game of their time but got snubbed by medias” then I might have a couple of my own to provide as example.

PenguinTD,

Link to a better explanation by FluffyQuack, Capcom has added this drm to games for a long time. Not really affecting mods in general, don’t know about the linux/steam deck compatibility.

PenguinTD,

very typical for people that never even run or host their own server from data center or even cloud service.

live streaming is worse in bandwidth consumption compare to youtube with same resolution input to output. Like youtube can do whatever they like to keep the outgoing low even if you encode according to spec. But streaming with the demand of like 4~6s delay their 2nd pass to try lower the output bitrate is just not gonna be as good as youtube. That’s why twitch still don’t have 4k stream, they have new beta programs thanks to newer codec on newer GPU, as otherwise their data center is gonna get crushed hard.

PenguinTD, (edited )

Since they are bought by Amazon I think any service they wasn’t on AWS would have been moved to AWS. Basically, on demand video streaming service (netflix, youtube, etc) does have finer control of how they want to re-encode and have like bit rate throttle on the server/client side so you don’t see too much buffering if internet connection is acting up. This means they can throttle you down to 360p like youtube auto if their data center isn’t fast enough to fetch the high bit rate yet and then feed you the higher quality one once they got it. (or down grade if your connection goes bad) But twitch stream is like I have a 10Mbits stream incoming and I have to copy, run a 2nd pass on the fly for different resolution, duplicate to outgoing servers and send to user all under 46s delay. I am not expert on the backend side and only have some experience dealing with streaming around 20162018. So to me that’s incredible feat but the short timespan means they can’t crunch the output bit rate even if it’s pretty static video. Compare to youtube, if I uploaded a 2030 minutes video in about 12GB on disk, it took them about 35 hours to re-encode, even if the source is already encoded with AV1. (I am not partner so I join the queue like any normal pleb on the internet.)

edit forgot to respond to the cloud GPU thing, I think AWS will be charging Twitch the same way as other company, so AWS aren’t really “losing” money if Twitch choose to use cloud instance with GPU(which would be kinda dumb). They need higher throughput for the data in/out so whatever the CPU ingest part I mentioned above is just to breakdown the stream and feed to user as quick as possible. They are not going to waste anytime to give you better quality stream with lower bandwidth cost. they just feed you whatever fits into their bandwidth budget basically.

PenguinTD,

well, I was looking forward to buy DD2 and now this.

PenguinTD,

Yeah, I post somewhere but how they do the monetization is gonna change how I am gonna buy the game. I had the original helldiver free from ps plus, like it so when steam on sale I bought it later with all the DLC included. I would support them if they did a good job on PC, but only so when it’s reasonable.

I do not mind the skins or cosmetics too much, but more like contents affects how you play the game, helldiver 1 has this issue that’s why I bought when all the dlc are included.
