Also are we just going to ignore the whole thing with GTAV where you had three characters with intertwined stories that you could switch between (mostly) at will? Multiple protagonists has been done, but not really like that, not in such a living breathing manner that they managed to pull off. Rockstar also manages to fill the world with many interesting characters for the story to play with, they manage to take really simple gameplay and make it engaging all the way through.
They also added the heists which were a pretty good way of adding more meaning to the old school mission structure they continue to use and while ultimately I don’t think it had they impact they wanted it did add some flavor and interest to the gameplay. I’m an absolute fiend for heist films and that was a lot of fun for me.
These games are characterized by superficial simplicity underlaid with surprising complexity to craft a smooth experience. LA Noire is a prime example of that kind of design where it becomes very obvious how much the game has to run like well oiled gearworks to function at all and have the cases work as narrative. (developed by Team Bondi, but with the help of a lot of the R* studios including North)
Also they manage to do all this without a second of it feeling like a cynical product, it’s clear the people doing this love the topic of pop culture crime, films, stories, legends and want to take the player along for a fun ride. I don’t know at this point, with everything that happened with GTAO, which mostly feels like a cynical product, if that’s the R* making GTAVI, I sure hope it is though.
Yeah consumer retail has implied contracts that override anything you write in a TOS or EULA. You can add certain things with those but there’s still a basic commercial transaction happening that is bound to the rule of law.
Why bother with NFTs? every storefront already has a licensing system, the only benefit I could see is being able to move it from storefront to storefront, but they will never go for that. Even then it could be done much more efficiently other ways.
Haha, that’s exactly the kind of game I want to make but with graphics and a little less dry. Didn’t even know about that one. Also I should probably actually figure out how to start that once I’m settled in here. It’s amazing how much planning and thought goes into getting one truck across the country. It’s like Oregon trail but you die of stupidity, yours or others, rather than dysentery.
Comment what you think about the physics of the beamng drive, and also the gameplay of the game in general, including the steering wheel, which I haven’t used yet....
Aero is simultaneously half missing and the most detailed aero of any game I’ve played. if you take all the weight out of a piccolina and put a mattress on the roof and push it down a hill it flys.
to put that into some interesting context that’s about what your cell phone uses if you go through the battery over 24hrs. With a battery or big capacitor to act as an accumulator you could in theory have a smart phone that never needs charging, or rarely when you use it a lot in one night.
Yeah, I hope so, but they also cannot just lie about the direction they think they are headed like that as a public company. With the kind of progress translation has made it just seems inevitable that the switch will happen for lower power consumer devices at least. (Lower power being relative to a high end workstation) interesting to see if maybe this means a pivot to commercial only products.
The best part is it’s not even that complicated of a thing conceptually. Like you don’t need to study it to kind of understand the idea and some of its limitations.
Really? If you just look up “3DS USB charging cable” on a popular jungle themed online retailer it comes up with loads of them. Sure you can find the same on AliExpress or eBay.
And yes yours uses the same cables/charger as the 3DS.
I think that’s just a case of cautious journalism, that’s the source they had and they were too lazy or didn’t have time to obtain more for this article. Understandably it’s not really what this article is focused on.
No? There’s more color, but it’s reasonable CSGO always had a kind of dull color grading/textures, though updates changed that A bit later on. A lot of players turn up saturation themselves for the (at least perceived) benefit of visibility so that might be what you saw, you also see CS players playing in 1024x768 stretched still because that’s how they always played before.
They definitely gave it that trendy sunny slightly hazy day look. I’m not complaining it’s a much nicer aesthetic than the original release of CSGO which felt like a Seattle afternoon in the middle of the desert.
If it were me I’d just tell them they have the choice between refunding me or me issuing a charge back since they didn’t deliver the product, I know which is preferable to them…
It’s really none of the customers problem why you can’t deliver, unless they are somehow being difficult, you are obligated to make the customer whole on the transaction which is a contract.
If they took care of me I’d happily email Sony and tell them they are being dicks (in a brutal but classy way), but these guys are probably cut off for a reason.
I also wonder if Xbox will use the reaction to the leaks to determine potential changes going forward (ie: reactions to the console being all digital, reactions to the next gen console processor, etc).
Almost certainly, make lemonade and all that, it can be very valuable feedback it just wouldn’t have been worth telegraphing your 5 year plan.
You really think M$ is better about this? You still can’t play any Forza Motorsport games on back compat, there may be some technical reason for this, but I doubt it. They delist games before the next one in the series comes out too, which is the wildest shit. you can’t buy FM7 anymore and haven’t been able to for a while. The new one isn’t even out yet.
This practice boggles the mind because I can go on Steam and most publishers are still selling their decade + old games.
They are just a super poster, they post just tons of gaming articles that strike their fancy, which is cool it keeps this community fresh, but it’s not always good, just is what it is, I won’t complain really because it’s not like I’m much of a poster.
Yup, it’s not in the specs that it supports intel graphics.
These days it’s expected that any directX/Vulkan supporting card can run just about anything with varying levels of performance, back in the day it was very very specific what a 3d game engine supported. If your card wasn’t on the list it wasn’t going to run outside of software mode unless the newer version of that card had backwards compatibility features. Also later on you had to worry about very specific shader features and direct x features being supported to even get the game to look right.
Just a bit interesting how times change. They definitely should have worked with intel a bit to get it to work, at least given them a copy with some time for them to work out their drivers to support it.
My friend and I were discussing this over the weekend. Games are inherently different than movies, books, and music. They’re tied to specific hardware and operating systems that may not be available anymore....
Yeah you can get drives that can rip them with third party firmware installed, (I have drives with custom firmware for other things) but the cheapest way is to just use an actual Xbox 360. Doesn’t need to be modded, Xenia can just use an installed game, so you just install the game to a flash drive then you can move it to your PC and run it from there.
For me it’s probably Jazzpunk, but I liked Disco Elysium too. I’ve been looking for something to scratch that “Jazzpunk surrealist comedy itch” for a while and not many games have come even close.
If you liked that it’s based on a browser game called Kingdom of Loathing, the gameplay is not as tight or refined but there’s plenty to do and it’s pretty enjoyable to play when you have some time to kill on a work pc lol.
Most of the video games I’ve played were pretty good. The only one I can think of that I didn’t like was MySims Kingdom for the Nintendo DS. Dropped that pretty quickly. It was a long while ago, but I’ll guess it was because there were too many fetch quests and annoying controls.
The stakes are just too high and the limit on time and funds you can safely earn just makes it feel stressful when it should be fun.
I can get the appeal of the risk/reward but it crosses the line from exciting and tense to anxiety inducing for me.
On top of that the game was kind of unstable on release and if you crashed it counted as losing the race and your wager etc and you cannot load an earlier save or anything, if that was the case the whole game would actually be decent apart from the lack of event variety.
and I am really not impressed. I don’t want to know more about the story, don’t want to build a spaceship that I can fast travel with, don’t want to explore the universe....
It took me about 14 hours in to reveal a major game mechanic that Bethesda didn’t even mention. it’s wild how big this game is I did some goofing around and side stuff but not that much.
I remember encountering those giants outside whiterun on launch and having one yet me practically to dawnstar. It was hilarious and I wasn’t mad at all.
Uncontacted tribes also don’t have advanced medicine (though not to say they haven’t discovered a great deal of important things on their own) or well… videogames. If you want to live like that more power to you, but for all the faults of modern society it has massive benefits as well.
I think there’s plenty of middle ground to be found where we can have our cake and eat it too even if it looks wildly different from what we have now. Gift economies just don’t work when you have billions of people involved. It’s ultimately more efficient to give people money and then they can spend it on what they need or want. Even the idea of a corporation or company isn’t inherently broken, people will always have a need to organize themselves to create efficiencies and build bigger things than they could on their own.
Capitalism is shit, the concept of money, and organized labor, is quite good.
How do I get a computer? My neighbors do not make computers. The next 100 towns over don’t either. (at least not in whole) Do I go to the computer people in taiwan with a bunch of stuff the engineers and manufacturing technicians need? How much time would I have to spend to do that? Wouldn’t it be nice if we agreed on a medium of exchange that represented my labor, fair share, or value to society that I could just send electronically and could be exchanged again locally for what they need specifically?
It sure is the way we lived naturally in small tribes, but that’s not tenable at a certain point and it’s why almost every society that has grown to a sufficient size to make good use of it has invented some form of currency.
Money isn’t the problem, it’s the way it’s used.
Also society is so large there’s no way to have that level of accountability for everyone unless you create some neofascist social credit system.
The logistics just boggle the mind. It’s an interesting concept I do want to explore and will when I have some time to look into it deeper. I think I know what you are saying a little better, I just can’t envision it working in such a global economy that’s required to give people a high quality of life.
Also I don’t think the choice ever should be shit job or starve, I just don’t think you need to eliminate the concept of money or regulated “free markets” to do that. In a rational market system you gain a lot of efficiency by having it steer people to more efficient processes and encourage people to do the difficult or unpleasant things that need done with rewards.
We value similar things we just have different ideas of how you get there.
Just unlucky, I’ve played through the game many times and some runs I get none other runs I get a lot. There is a pattern to some of them, but if you are just picking yourself it’s truly random, there’s no “loaded dice” system involved to throw the player a bone. (though you’d think there would be with how aggressive catchup is XD)
The later ones don’t allow that, they’ll just take off and you’ll have to reset. Some mods let you turn it off but really the game just becomes a cakewalk if you do.
It’s just different, I don’t know as I’ve gotten older the “edginess” of the older titles doesn’t really hit with me anyways so I didn’t miss it at all and I felt it was replaced with a more modern take on the idea. They did some really fun stuff with it, for example there’s a set of missions where you go LARPing all over the map with dart guns in a kind of weird mix of mad max and high fantasy. I didn’t like the characters in the crew at first either but they grow on you I don’t think the gang in the other games was any less corny or goofy these ones are just more modern takes.
I think edginess had it’s time, but it’s old hat now. It still feels every bit a madcap gang adventure a Saints game should be. I wouldn’t spend $60 on it, but for $20 it’s a winner all day if you just want a dumb fun game. There’s plenty to do and plenty of actually new gameplay changing things to discover and unlock. Clearing out gangs feels a bit repetitive, but not much different from something like Far Cry 3/4/5/6
Maybe it’s not your thing, and I think it’s probably fair to level the critique that it’s not what the hardcore fans really wanted, but I don’t think the game fails to deliver a good experience overall especially now that it’s all bugfixed etc. (which it was shortly after launch but still that launch sucked a little)
The CPU is only 100mhz slower and identical in every other respect so it really is good enough to be considered the same. But yes I suppose memory bandwidth and size can be an issue downporting games.
it’s actually 200mhz (had to fact check that) a 6% difference, which is surely made up by not having as many draw calls to do and hardly anyone has that as their fundamental limit anyways, when a game runs at 60fps (or more) on the X and 30 (or 60) on the S there’s clearly a ton of headroom. Almost all games on these systems are certain to be GPU limited on the Series S.
The memory is a significant enough difference to matter though.
lowering foliage draw distance, LODs, Volumetrics, particles, crowd density etc. does lower your draw calls though.
Yeah, the series X has a faster GPU that can take advantage of the slightly higher clocks for higher framerates or additional detail/objects.
Practically speaking that 6% makes no difference whatsoever in terms of whether or not you can do something. Maybe the series S drops a few frames below it’s target when something intense happens, that’s going to be about it.
The memory bandwidth is shockingly halved with 2GB of it running at 1/10 the bandwidth of the X though, I see that being a huge issue in many titles.
