SuddenlyBlowGreen,

Who is “calling” and “not calling” the uncommitted movement?

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

Nice, I do like it when useful idiots identifiy rhemselves upfront, instead of me having to dig, thanks!

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

It didn’t, I just disagree.

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

If in the act of defending yourself, you kill somebody, is that objectively a good righteous thing? Is that not a bloody stain on the world? Will there not be blood on your hands?

What is your alternative then? Let’s hear it.

If some transphobe/homophobe/racist/etc corners me and my family/friends (again), what should I do according to you? I’m curious.

SuddenlyBlowGreen, (edited )

I didn’t, but only through luck. If we weren’t lucky, I would have had to kill them, or more likely I would have had to try to.

Apparently since I don’t approve of killing people I have to list all the incountable ways that you can deal with all kinds of negative confrontations without resorting to literally killing someone.

Please, do tell me how I could have managed to deal with multiple drunk guys cornering and trying to beat/stab us to death.

This has been a very stupid day defending the most basic idea that maybe we shouldn’t just kill people and maybe we shouldn’t fantasize about killing people.

I think what’s even more stupid, is coming into a community of vulnerable people, and telling them that by defending themselves from aggressors makes them bad people, that they’ll have blood on their hands and they won’t be able to live with themselves.

I honestly think you’re either one of two things: You’re either an alt right troll, or worse, you’re someone who thinks themselves an ally, but has absolutely zero practical experience in the matter.

I mean anyone who says the following:

If self defense was really the goal why didn’t the father gift their child a bullet proof vest or a shield or pepper spray or a taser or any other of the myriad options that exist in the real world to defend yourself from attackers?

Is either trolling, or unintentionally trying to get people killed through bad advice.

Either way, you’re helping the regressives, not us.

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

Don’t sell yourself short. You are an ally, you are helping. Just not the side you think you are.

And just like your fellow regressives, you desperately reject reality until it personally affects you.

I just hope that when it does, it isn’t someone else who pays that price for you.

Have a good day.

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

So private platform and private parties shouldn’t have the right to moderate and regulate their own spaces?

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

No, but you can’t forcibly take and use someone else’s megaphone.

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

Major media outlets and companies should not be considered private platforms.

Really? Now I’m curious, how do you imagine that?

I assume the company still pays for the platform, hosting, development, etc. Since it’s public, are they now subsidised by taxes?

Who moderates the platforms then? Are is it all just unmoderated?

Will companies get compansated for lost revenue?

I genuinely curious how you imagine this working.

Anyone can sign up and post while they use their money and influence to decide who gets heard.

Yeah, because it’s theirs. They own it.

If I let everyone into my house for a party, doesn’t mean I lose the right to kick people out.

Sometimes you gotta put up with some ugly if you don’t want people silenced for their perspective. I don’t want an echo chamber.

I’m okay with an echo chamber if it means I don’t have to put up with CP and jihadi execution footage in my cute cat feed.

I assume it would be no problem for you.

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

Why should anyone get to own the only effective avenues of communication? Communication is what determines how the world works.

Who currently owns the “only effective avenues of communication”?

CP is illegal obviously, and jihad doesn’t make sense in the cute cats category the way ‘straight only game mod’ makes sense in the ‘game mod’ category.

“Sometimes you gotta put up with some ugly if you don’t want people silenced for their perspective.” Seems there’s a limit to the ugly you’re willing to put up with, and you’re quite willing to silence perspectives yourself.

You cleaely still want people to moderate social networks. I assume you’d want these people to outside the company?

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

Ah, so you’re pro moderation when you personally find the contect to be even indirectly harmful.

“Double standards are bad, no matter which side.”

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

A public forum, I assume paid for and maintained by the taxes of the public?

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

You didn’t answer my question.

Who would pay for the platform, and who would moderate it? Or do you just want even more hate speech to spread?

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

Sorry, life got in the way. I’m not surprised you’re not familiar with such matters.

I am surprised how much you support spreading hate speech by removing the ability of moderation.

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

Yeah, imagine if there was an area of software development where people could freely view, copy and modify each others works.

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

When working on an OS project you are doing it out of altruism and/or fun, fully realising that you will never be compensated for this work.

That would imply there are no devs or even entire companies working on open source software and getting paid.

Just because you work on open source, doesn’t mean you don’t get paid.

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

I don’t know how to convey to you how important it is to incentivize innovation without worrying someone else will simply steal your ideas to make millions from your hard work you did inventing something while they literally did nothing.

If I make something and someone else can simply take it and dominate the market with it and pay me nothing for the work i did, why the fuck should I even bother making anything?

TIL that open source doesn’t exist.

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

Oh sorry, I was under the impression that you had at least a basic knowledge about software and software development.

I now see that that’s not the case.

Open source is an area where software patents don’t generally protect the product, and yet it’s the most innovative space out there. And in cases where patents are brought in (see the rust trademark incident) they are rejected by the community. And yet open source is still around, and powering most of the internet and present in most devices.

If what you said about patents were the case, that would not be so.

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

Wow, you wrote a game engine in machibe language?

Can we see it?

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

He sold then announced something he thought would improve the value of his big stake in the company.

In what universe?

SuddenlyBlowGreen,

So he would get a huge bonus from the short term gains, and then dip before the company suffered the long term damages.
