A blowout wouldn’t look like the landslide reelection of President Ronald Reagan over Democrat Walter Mondale in 1984. But it could mean Trump winning more Electoral College votes than expected by flipping most if not all of the states Biden won in 2020 — and even expanding the map by turning some unexpected states, like Minnesota or Virginia, red.

Emerson College Polling/The Hill surveys from April and a Bloomberg/Morning Consult poll last month both had Trump leading Biden in seven swing states: Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. Biden won each of those states except for North Carolina in 2020 en route to 306 electoral votes.

Candidates need 270 electoral votes to win. Biden won in 2020 with 306; Trump won in 2016 with 304; former President Obama won in 2012 with 332 and in 2008 with 365, winning states like Indiana, Iowa, North Carolina, Florida and Ohio in the process.

In a Quinnipiac survey before the verdict, 6 percent of Trump voters said they’d be less likely to vote for the former president if he was convicted.

A YouGov poll taken after the verdict found that 27 percent of independent voters were less likely to vote for Trump — but 21 percent were made more likely.

An ABC News/Ipsos poll found 50 percent of Americans thought Trump’s guilty verdict was correct, and 49 percent said he should end his presidential campaign as a result.

A presidential forecast model from The Hill/Decision Desk HQ currently predicts Trump has a 56 percent chance of winning the election, and national polling averages put the former president up by around 1 point.

At the same time, wars in Gaza and Ukraine are showing no end in sight, and developments on the international stage could roil things for Biden in the coming months.

Your post includes a request for more down votes…

I would implore that you reread the comments, I will even quote the ‘request’ section you misunderstood:

I couldn’t have done it alone, it was only possible with the help of many!

This is not and was not meant to be taken as a…, as you put it:

request for more down votes

I was just stating an obvious but truthful event that took place…, in that hot and cold summer evening when the stars were blinking like missles in the sky…being shot down by our tax dollars…but killing 100s of thousands of civilians, where many are small and innocent children…

Again, downvotes or upvotes are not possible with out many people engaging with the comment; it was not meant to be taken as an invite to downvote/upvote, but people are free to do as they please!

Sadly, the working class people fall for the duopoly propaganda all the time, it is not completely thier fault; we are born into this systematically broken system, that is working as it should, for the owner class.

That is why we must continue to be willing to speak to those that do not agree or think like we do!

jimmydoreisalefty,
@jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world avatar

Careful on your thinking process, it seems like a ‘slippery slope’, as people say.

Donating to any politicial campaign should not infringe on anyones rights.

This would easly be used against the poiliticial party you stand by as well.

Many examples where this kind of thinking just makes it much worse for the working class.

jimmydoreisalefty,
@jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world avatar

Sadly, this can be applied to anyone from the duopoly.

Grassroots is a great thing, but corporations have billions to ‘invest’ in politicians, so they can pass thier laws and more war.

We have legalized bribery in the US, which they call lobbying.

In a column published Saturday, Dowd said after the guilty verdict, she called her brother and her sister — both of whom, she said, are Republicans who had hoped for a Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley victory — to gauge whether Trump’s conviction had been a final straw for them.

“I wasn’t going to vote for Trump,” Maureen Dowd’s sister, Peggy, told her, according to Dowd’s column. “But now I am because I thought this whole thing was a sham.”

“I couldn’t get to sleep,” Dowd recounted her sister telling her. “I was dreaming that I was in jail after a sham court trial. I was thinking that if they arrest me, I’d be out of luck. My father’s dead and two of my brothers are dead. Who else would save me?”

“They want to put him in jail three days before our convention?” Dowd’s sister asked her, according to the column. “The man is surrounded by Secret Service. What will they do? Put him in a cell with four Secret Service guys around him?”

Bull fucking shit… the whole conversation is exactly what you’ll get when someone wants to do something they know is dubious. Talk to a gambling addict on their way to a casino and you’ll hear echos of these sort of thin justifications.

Not so sure on that, from what I have seen the verdict helped even more than the initial trial news.

Did you see the funding that was possible due to the verdict?

I would be criticial of legacy media, but let me know if you find another source, other than fox news!

New York Times columnist Maureen Dowd

I guess, the people that wrote the article, are trying to showcase that the verdict helped Trump instead of hurt him?

jimmydoreisalefty,
@jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world avatar

The election of Trump is basically a fucking religion at this point.

Sadly, it seems the duopoly acts as a religion, not just Republicans or Republican-lites.

We must continue to fight the class war and not let the owner class keep dividing us!

jimmydoreisalefty,
@jimmydoreisalefty@lemmy.world avatar

They are not throwing it, sadly, they know that most will continue with the status quo.

The Republican-lites, duopoly, know that the people are okay with being sheep herded into voting for them.

They will continue to vote blue no matter who.

The reds also do the same.

“This was intentional. You don’t accidentally kill massive amounts of children and their families over and over again and get to say, ‘It was a mistake,’” U.S. Congresswoman Rashida Tlaib (D-Mich.) said in a social media post to President Joe Biden. “Genocidal maniac Netanyahu told us he wants to ethically cleanse Palestinians. When are you going to believe him, POTUS?”

Despite these staggering casualties—and Israel’s forced displacement, starvation, and deprivation of millions of Gazans—the United States continues to support its top Middle Eastern ally with billions of dollars in arms and with diplomatic and political support including United Nations Security Council vetoes and genocide denial.

“How many times are we going to hear, it was a ‘mistake’ before we take serious action against Netanyahu?” U.S. Congresswoman Delia Ramirez (D-Ill.) asked. “How does anyone justify his administration? Every single moment that we supply arms, send money, and make excuses makes us absolutely complicit in his barbaric war of death against Palestinians. Enough!”

“Biden’s backing of Netanyahu’s war is rooted in a hierarchy of human value, an empathy gap that perpetuates suffering, violence, and distrust,” he added. “Cutting off American weapons is the only way to isolate Netanyahu to prevent further killing of women and children in what has become the largest slaughter of Palestinian civilians since Israel’s founding in 1948.”

I find the hysteria over the the top. Like, they targeted and killed two Hamas commanders. So when the article quotes someone saying they targeted civilians in tents, that should be called out as a lie.

It might not be big news for you, but once you see the same military speak and narrative over and over again, you start to question and become more criticial of what they say vs. what is closer to the truth.

Reminds me of some other wars, where we droned many civilians, 'but we were targeting terrorists" line is also used to a certain degree.

Which war and whistleblower released the info on the closer to real data of civilian death vs. military reported civilan deaths…Iraq, Iran, Syria, Yemen, Afghanistan, Somalia, or Pakistan.

The Iraq War documents leak is the disclosure to WikiLeaks of 391,832 United States Army field reports, also called the Iraq War Logs, of the Iraq War from 2004 to 2009 and published on the Internet on 22 October 2010. The files record 66,081 civilian deaths out of 109,000 recorded deaths.

Seems like the airstrike caused some flammable materials to catch fire and it spread to the tents. The resultant fire was obviously not intentional.

That may be true, but when you see Israeli talking points in legacy media, they make sure to always bring up how much effort they put into keeping the civilan death count to the minimum. They do not release any of the data on this though, only on the ‘Hamas’ terrorist death count.

Hey, maybe don’t make camp with Hamas commanders? Maybe point them out on day one of the war so everyone can go back home? This should have been over in November.

Have you heard of Guerrilla warfare? Our gov’t and military has a lot of experience with this type of warfare, but if you look at the data, it seems to only increase terrorists due to them spreading out and, due to civilian deaths, it tends to increase terrorism due to martyrs and revenge for family/friends.

Guerrilla warfare is a form of unconventional warfare in which small groups of irregular military, such as rebels, partisans, paramilitary personnel or armed civilians including recruited children, use ambushes, sabotage, terrorism, raids, petty warfare or hit-and-run tactics in a rebellion, in a violent conflict, in a war or in a civil war to fight against regular military, police or rival insurgent forces.

I hope this has helped you see a different point of view, I would suggest to read about the US wars we have been a part of for around a couple of decades.

You may read military and legacy media data on the wars, then look at the leaked information to contrast and compare the information.

Feel free to share that information [with] us as well!

Let us keep talking to people we do not agree with or think like we do!

Biden’s actions would beg to differ…

America should back Israel generally and that idea is uncontroversial in Washington.

That is true, the duopoly is bought and paid for, AIPAC is really good in investing in politicians that will follow their bidding!

“We are horrified by this deadly event, which shows once again that nowhere is safe,” said MSF on social media.

The images out of Rafah on Sunday included videos of tents being engulfed in flames and charred corpses, and one showed a man holding up what appeared to be the body of a small child who had been beheaded. NBC News reported that it “was not able to independently verify the situation on the ground.”

“This U.S.-backed massacre of civilians is a direct result of the Biden administration’s enduring political and military support for Israel’s genocide in Gaza,” said Nihad Awad, national executive director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, on Monday. “The Palestinian child shown without a head would still be alive today had our government not offered Israel’s far-right government unceasing support for the slaughter of Palestinian civilians and the ethnic cleansing of Gaza. Those who support genocide are just as guilty as those who drop American-supplied bombs on civilians.”

As major news outlets like The New York Times and The Washington Post buried the news of the attack under unrelated stories, journalist Mehdi Hasan condemned the silence of the Biden administration and the “U.S. political and media establishments.”

Jan Egeland, secretary general of the Norwegian Refugee Council, directed ire at European Union leaders who have continued to back Israel’s bombardment of Gaza, demanding to know “how many more red lines must be crossed before the E.U. decides to act?”

“The U.S. government has facilitated this genocide by continuously sending weapons and funding to the Israeli military, despite mass opposition from the American people,” the group added. “We hold the U.S. government, in addition to the Israeli government, responsible for the slaughter of over 36,000 Palestinians, for the siege and starvation of Palestinians in Gaza, and for mass destruction of infrastructure and land. We demand an end to all U.S. funding to the Israeli military now. People of conscience throughout the world are calling for an end to genocide.”

Here is a short politico article:

Trump pledges to commute sentence of Silk Road founder Ross Ulbricht if elected [Peder Schaefer | 05/25/2024 | Politico] politico.com/…/trump-commute-ross-ulbricht-senten…

“And if you vote for me, on Day One, I will commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht,” the former president said, generating cheers from the audience, moments after mentioning his plans to pardon supporters who stormed the Capitol on Jan. 6, 2021.

“It’s one of the things we wanted from his first term,” said Katherine Yeniscavich, a national committee member of the party.

Ulbricht has been imprisoned since 2013, and some libertarians say his case is an example of government overreach and the need for criminal justice reforms. Ulbricht’s case was one of the top issues that libertarians asked Trump to address before the convention — and it won Trump his biggest applause of the night.

In another olive branch to the third-party, Trump said he would put a Libertarian in his cabinet if elected, and would also place Libertarians in “senior posts” in his administration.

But despite those promises, Trump received sustained boos and jeers from the crowd throughout his speech, suggesting the pledge to pardon Ulbricht may not be enough.

Edit: added info below

The Hill article, short paragraph on Ross:

Trump draws mixed reactions as he urges Libertarians ‘combine with us’ [Julia Mueller | 05/25/24 | The Hill] thehill.com/…/4686347-trump-draws-mixed-reactions…

As part of his appeal to the party, Trump also committed to putting a Libertarian in his Cabinet if he wins the Oval Office in 2024 — and to commute the sentence of Ross Ulbricht, who is serving life in prison for his role in operating a platform for buying and selling illegal drugs. Chants of “free Ross” had erupted several times throughout the night’s events.
