randomperson,

ChatGPT already has a free tier. It’s likely the same deal. Apple said you can link your ChatGPT account if you want access to premium features.

randomperson,

People mentioned Quad9, Cloudflare, Mullvad, and NextDNS already. Controld.com is also available for free with different levels of blocking. They also support DoH and DoT.

randomperson,

In my opinion the biggest problem with hardware keys is what happens when you lose them. You have to either provision the keys yourself, putting the secret on your computer. Or you have to buy backup keys and make sure to register both with all your services. You’ll end up using your phone or password manager as a “backup.” And then that backup becomes your primary 2FA.

randomperson,

I tried Mullvad’s DNS service and found that it messed up sites that rely on geography based DNS routing. For example, I’d get sent to a service’s servers in Singapore instead of the US. This caused some noticeable lag.

randomperson,

How are you liking Controld vs NextDNS?

randomperson,

How does NextDNS compare with controld.com?

Why are keyboards getting smaller?

I’m not a true mechanical keyboard enthusiast. I mean I like a good keyboard for typing code, so I rolled with model-Ms in the 80s and 90s, then some expensive Cherry keyboard I only recently retired because it was utterly spent (and it was PS/2), and now I happily use a Wooting Two HE....

randomperson,

Smaller keyboards:

  • Encourage you to move your hands less. Part of this is allowing your mouse to be closer, especially if you’re right handed.
  • Aesthetically look cleaner and less cluttered

What switches and key caps should I get?

Hi all, I have a quick and possibly very simple question. I have a keychron V6 with red switches being delivered to me tomorrow. I just want to know what switches and keycaps will fit this keyboard? This is my very first mechanical/swappable keyboard and I know nothing about it. I want to try other switches, mainly brown, blue...

randomperson,

Milktooth (milktooth.nu) will let you try 10 different switches for $15. Worth it to save you the trouble of buying multiple sets of switches before finding ones you like.

randomperson,

Think of it as a sampler. You get a sample of 10 different switches, 5 of each kind of your choosing, and then return the sampler after 5 days. When you find the switch you like, you can buy a whole set for your keyboard.
