Unfortunately it inevitable. If a publicly traded company exists, it will have to extract more and more and more until this kind of rent-seeking model happens. And if a company is private, it will eventually go public. And even if you truly believe in a company's owner to not sell out, eventually they will die and the company will go public or get sold. Eventually, money always wins.

I think I'm going to try to get Splinter Cell: Blacklist working on my Linux media PC. Or maybe some No Man's Sky.

From all the war stories you see online, they don't have that much to lose.

Quake II Remastered - Official Trailer (2023) (www.youtube.com)

I agree. I know you're getting downvoted, but these slight graphical upgrades don't really justify an entire new re-release. I was actually hoping for something like they did with the Halo enhanced editions, allowing you to switch between the new shiny graphics and the original graphics. They could certainly keep the same engine and game feel, but to make a big deal about what could have essentially been a mod to the original game seems disingenuous on their part.

The world is really conspiring to give me back my life, huh? Writers and actors guild strikes, video games being locked behind face scanners, websites being locked behind DRM in the browser, and big social media time sinks imploding because speculative venture capital groups stopped drowning them in money. If they're not careful, I might actually go outisde and touch grass. Or get a hobby. Maybe even talk to another person face to face.

I don't have a quality comment, just wanted to say I fuckin' love LibreOffice. Have used it or its predecessor since I was in high school at the turn of the century. Lord that makes me sound old. I think LibreOffice actually forked when I was in college, so mid 2000's.

Anyway, great software. Highly recommend. 10/10.

What game is too terrifying to finish for you? (kbin.social)

Mine is Silent Hill 3. Its subject matter revolves around the fears of a teenage girl, like death of a parent, puberty, unwanted pregnancy (with a demon fetus, no less), mirrors (THAT ROOM shivers), and stalkers. The atmosphere is so oppressive and I cant play the game without having something else playing in the background, its...

Not quite an answer to your question, but if you enjoy horror games but don't want to be too spooked yourself, I highly recommend the OhItsRobinM channel on YouTube and Twitch. She plays horror games and is absolutely unphased. She makes them bearable to watch for me.
