M1llenia, to gaming in Hasbro Wants Old Transformers Games To Return, But Activision Lost Them

God I loved Fall of Cybertron as a kid and I even recently snatched up a PS3 copy as I had sold it along with my Xbox 360 way back in the day. It would be amazing to play modern ports of this game (with multiplayer!!!), I hope Activision can find the files again

Big corporation: Whoops, we lost this game so we can’t re-release it. Sorry. Even if we found it, it’s not worth our time/money porting it.

Meanwhile, random person on the internet: I’ve updated this emulator so you can play old games at 4k 60fps for free. The weird bug that was never fixed at launch is now gone too.

smeg,

Companies do things for money, people do things they’re passionate about

I remember buying War For Cybertron for the PS3 off of a 9/10 review on IGN. This was back when I could only afford to get one or two games a year so it’s mediocrity stung so bad. Was one of my first experiences with buyer’s remorse.

Weird, I remember having an absolute blast with both.

That make sense. I was wondering about this just the other week. I would absolutely pay for and play both the Cybertron games and Devastation again.

Thanks for the share.

Hunter2,

They could press a button and make the Steam versions available again, but they obviously also want to port it to the new consoles, and there lies the issue.

Ooh! Yay!

(Also, as a sidenote, I’m personally very surprised Pokémon Gen1 isn’t on there yet.)

I'm not. Advance Wars isn't on there either. They're going to find a way to sell them to you for way more than the subscription of NSO, in addition to what you're paying for NSO.

They did let's go Picachu/Eeve, it is gen 1 technically.

bobthened, to gaming in Baldur’s Gate 3 Lets You Customize Your Character’s Genitals

Cyberpunk had the same thing, but it turned out to be a) very minimal options b) made no difference at all to story or romance c) irrelevant because without mods you couldn’t see them in game apart from in the inventory screen.

I suspect this would be the same, just a pointless feature to generate clickbait articles and maybe get a few more sales to horny coomer idiots.

I really don’t see the point in stuff like that, feels more like a gimmick to generate articles like this one and free publicity than anything meaningful. The only game I’d care for dong customization would be a porn game, otherwise why bother, I’d rather see more hairs and body shape options instead.

rafoix,

Hopefully it’s a story thing that affects some possible in-game relationships.

My dwarf will wield a mighty hammer indeed. Easy to track though, the furrowed trail is a dead give-away. You got to have balance though, right?

crossmr,

I'm fairly certain that isn't what that option is about.

LunarVanguard, to gaming in Final Fantasy XVI’s Jill Should Be More Than Pretty

I think Jill is a great character she's strong without being a "man with tits" she's pretty while wearing practical clothes. Which is why I think it's a shame she feels under utilized. The game has a huge lack of banter while traveling around which is a great way for games to make their characters feel more present.

stopthatgirl7,
@stopthatgirl7@kbin.social avatar

Do you think the game not having the FF traditional party is why she feels underutilized?

Enttropy, to gaming in Final Fantasy XVI’s Jill Should Be More Than Pretty

Ah, Kotaku again with the shitposting.

So the author is mad that Jill isn’t the main character and she loves the actual main character, who happens to be a dude.

And here I was, hoping that an actual nuanced discussion could happen on here, instead of a Reddit-esque “Kotaku sux” kind of thing.

I almost didn’t post it because I suspected half the replies would be people complaining about Kotaku like it’s still 2014, and now I see I should have gone with my gut.

Can’t wait to play this, huge DnD fan but always the DM so will be nice to play finally. Been avoiding getting the early access, didn’t want to spoil it.

Reil, to gaming in Pokémon Go Dev Lays Off 230 Employees, Cancels Upcoming Marvel Game

Niantic seems to have trouble telling if a franchise is a good fit for the tech they have and the gameplay it enables. Marvel, Transformers, HP, and Basketball don't lend themselves well to the grindy collection and exploration mechanics.

We'll see how well Monster Hunter holds up, gameplay wise. It at least has a repeatable thing that sorta makes sense thematically (like fighting several Rathalos to gather parts) as opposed to having 5 clones of LeBron James or getting... stickers of stuff that you might recognize.

wccrawford,

I think a lot of stuff could fit their tech, if they were willing to go the extra mile and develop standard game features as well. Pokemon Go could be so much more if they implemented more RPG stuff. Ingress might have reached its limit, I dunno… But everything they’ve produced since those has been incredibly bare-bones and boring. And they all sounded like they had potential.

They want to do the absolute minimum amount of work to support their main mechanic, and nothing else… And it’s killing them.

Reil,

Pikmin was a pretty decent fit, but they dropped the seemingly easiest ball on gameplay! Niantic already have a flinging-objects mechanic, and Pikmin has a central "throwing Pikmin on the enemy" mechanic. They should've had some kinda action mechanic where you chuck your pikmin at the target!

regul, to gaming in Pokémon Go Dev Lays Off 230 Employees, Cancels Upcoming Marvel Game

Suffering from the Telltale disease. Pumping out more and more licensed games that are just a different coat of paint on the same game is going to lead to diminishing returns, I expect. Especially with a live service game, I have to imagine that at a certain point you’re just fracturing your userbase.

It looked in what they showed F2P. Super sad, just another way of killing off the Maxis games. Hopefully Paralives will be coming out soon to save the genre

PixTupy,

And that “life by you” one as well. Love seeing competition on the genre.
