wanting to hop into the world of linux on a dual boot method (one of my favorite games unfortunately cannot be run on linux at all, and it’s a gacha. Picked up 30XX last night and have been going through it. Very fun so far but the end boss is just a bunch of bullllllshitta.
SpiderHeck because I can never fully put it down.
Finally finished the full Red Dead Redemption 2 story. (After putting 450 hours into Red Dead Online and starting the single player over a year ago lol).
City of Heroes is always in the rotation. Can’t stop won’t stop (unless they shut it down again).

Dealing with D&D5E Hate and Pathfinder 2E

I have been trying to get my partner into Pathfinder 2nd edition, and they do seem taken with it, however he’s been having some issues lately with PF2E. Notably, online. The more he gets into PF2E, the more hate he sees for 5E. He’s been playing 5E for years now and has invested a lot of time and love into the game, and to...

Sounds like Microsoft is the problem here. Their antics finally got me to switch to Linux with Copilot.

Just curious, are you unvaccinated too?

termus,

I think their first use of CoPilot was for pairing two Xbox controllers together for accessibility. Instead of making up something new, they just co-opt it from that and now it’s going to be impossible to google Copilot for Xbox Controllers issues.

Oh well, glad I made the switch to Linux.

AntiMicroX - Anyone with experience using controller remapping applications?

Hi Beehaw! I’ve finally made the switch to Linux, I’m using Nobara OS based on Fedora. It’s been very nice so far (I had tried to go with Arch but Nvidia drivers ehhh). I’m running into issues remapping controls to my Xbox Adaptive Controller. Was hoping someone here might have some input....

termus,
@termus@beehaw.org avatar

Well I checked the controls and surprisingly they can be unmapped in the game. So that seems to have solved the issue for Helldivers. I’ll have to keep going through my games and see if any more act the same. Some games allow it and some don’t.

Foot controlled stratagems, reload and the Punisher shotgun ftw. Using mouse to aim.

YouTube once again ahead of uBO on Firefox; fiddling with the extension settings not working this time and DDG search is useless ... anyone got ideas?

Pretty much the subject line. uBO has successfully blocked the nag screen enough times that I can’t play anything at this point. No preview loads, and the play button serves no function. I’d really prefer not to have to find content on YT, copy the URL and use Piped/Invidious, but this ongoing escalation is steeling my...

termus,
@termus@beehaw.org avatar

I’ve been going through this every now and then with Firefox and uBlock. It feels like maybe it’s in-between Youtube making their change and uBlock catching up. I’ll go through the purge process but will still be blocked. Check back the next day and videos play fine with ads blocked.

My workaround in that in-between time is either open up a private browser (with ublock turned on for private browsing), watching it not logged in. Or I paste the video to a hidden discord channel I have on my server and watch that way (unless the video disables embedding). It’s always worked for me those two ways.

Great article and it sums up my feelings pretty well. I’m incredibly grateful for the XAC. What it has allowed me to combine together to play games, it’s wonderful. But it’s been a bumpy, expensive road to get here. I bought it on launch and the accessories that Microsoft offered at the time of launch were laughable. I only bought a single $60 big red button for it. I get it and the button is so sensitive I think I could set it off by breathing on it. I needed to use it with my feet so that’s no good.

The whole thing sat for a good year or more collecting dust until I came across Logitechs adaptive gaming kit. A great selection of buttons and everything you need to mark and manage them. It’s $120 (ughhhh) and to get all the buttons I want for how I use it, I’ll need 3 of them. My whole setup for it is over $400, ridiculous. Thankfully I am able to work with my disability and can afford that, but back when I was on SSI, no way in hell. I guess it’s cheaper than all the controllers I have bought in the past trying to find one I really enjoy using.

What I came up with, also using foot controls for WASD. i.imgur.com/30F9NUi.jpg

Some general rambling, the Xbox Accessories app needs a major overhaul, it’s a mess. Last time I checked Microsoft’s support site for the XAC was a bunch of broken links. Also the XAC stopped working shortly after the warranty expired. It has an internal battery the failed. Opening it up and disconnecting/removing that battery got it going again. Couldn’t find the battery anywhere for purchase, so it only works hardwired now but that’s not really a problem.

I was incredibly sad to see that Sony decided to launch it’s own product instead of just allowing the XAC to work natively on their device. While I’m sure Sony’s will work for some people, I just don’t see how and I’m not interested in buying another device. I’ll just stick with PC. It’s also weird how Sony has yet to show anyone using it, disabled or not.

termus,
@termus@beehaw.org avatar

At the time of launch, Microsoft was the only vendor that had buttons in stock. All the accessibility sites that sold custom ones were sold out. I did buy a mix of loose arcade buttons with the idea to create my own. I gave up on that once I saw the Logitech kit. It’s built nicer than what I would have been able to build myself, with way less effort. I’ve bought one joystick off Etsy to use with my feet. It’s custom made with a 3d printed shell, it’s nice but it was also $45 for a single input. Ughhhh.

I just started playing COD Black Ops Cold War because I got it through my PlayStation Plus subscription and wanted to try it out. I would agree. It’s wild to me that they are still releasing content (Free and DLC) and regular hotfixes for Vermintide 2. I remember it also releasing in a similar state to Darktide. Which is why I just decided to wait. I’ve had a ton of fun with both Vermintide games, so I have a good feeling they’ll get it there eventually.

Weird, I remember having an absolute blast with both.

What are some game genres / styles you like that aren't being made anymore, or are being mde but not very often?

For me it’s first person puzzle games. I can think of maybe a dozen off the top of my head that came out in the last decade. I especially enjoy when they’re open world. The ability to just quit a puzzle that’s stumped you and go try something else for a little bit is incredibly refreshing.

Outlands is breathing some new life into UO.

termus,
@termus@beehaw.org avatar

Yeah I basically did the same thing. Got the itch about 7 months ago. Managed to get my original UO account back (you can open a support ticket and they’ll ask for info regarding the original, it was pretty painless) and messed around on Atlantic, the only really populated server. It’s just meh. They added so many stats to weapons it’s overwhelming and most are garbage. It’s so obnoxious having to look over each item to see if it’s worth anything. Also the classic and enhanced clients suck pretty bad.

Outlands is definitely the most polished and unique free shard. Check out their wiki, it goes over skill changes and lists some templates for starting out. Their custom ClassicUO client is excellent and has Razor built in. The one thing that may turn you off is it’s mostly open PVP once you leave Shelter Island. There is a sanctuary dungeon that rotates each week that doesn’t allow murderers in but it has reduced XP and gold.

@termus@beehaw.org avatar

I bought a PS4 specifically for the first Spider-Man game. Played the crap out of it and the DLCs. I really haven’t touched it since. I honestly never thought they would bring their games to PC. Not going to get me this time!

termus,
@termus@beehaw.org avatar

Ultima Online is a 25 year old MMO that still has the original servers running. The install is about 3GB and can run on any PC from the last 20 years. For the official servers, the player base is largest on Atlantic and you can sign up for a free Endless Journey account. PVP is only allowed in certain zones.

There are many many player run servers that fit a lot of play styles. The most populated being Outlands. That is where I mainly play as it is by far the most populated UO server, 2.5k-3k people on usually. Just beware, outside of the starting zone and towns, it is open PVP almost everywhere.

City of Heroes now has player run servers. The install is around 5GB. Homecoming is the most populated, with a lot of added content. Rebirth is less populated but tries to be the closest experience to the official servers.

SpiderHeck!

It's sorta like Stick Fight but you're Spiders that can shoot web, shoot guns and swing lightsabers. It's so much fun running through wave survival with a friend. Once you get used to the controls you will find yourself doing some of the craziest shit in it. Clutching waves is super satisfying. I think I've gotten to wave 82 so far.

Should I play Dark Souls original or Remaster?

I already own the original, but back when I got it I was unable to play due to the poor control schemes since I am disabled. Now I own an Xbox Adaptive Controller that I used to play through Elden Ring pretty well. I'd love to go back and play some of the earlier games....

termus,
@termus@beehaw.org avatar

I'm giving the first another shot with DSFix because I am a cheap ass, haha. So far so good. Definitely a little different learning curve but it kept my ass up until 3am playing. Managed to get to the boss on the bridge with the mallet. He flattened me after the archers spammed me to death. Good times.

termus,
@termus@beehaw.org avatar

I have Marvel's Avengers in my cart. Debating on spending the $5. I played it a while back during the free weekend. There is a fun game in there but the cosmetics and other monetization practices put me off spending a larger amount of money on it. It looks like since they stopped development they released a lot of those pay-walled skins for free and patched quite a bit. Willing to give it another shot.

termus,
@termus@beehaw.org avatar

Do you have any proof to these claims? This link posted above shows otherwise. Granted this is not absolute proof but the stats show a different story to me.

termus,
@termus@beehaw.org avatar

So no? The data the article is sourced from https://wccftech.com/whats-up-with-the-missing-nvidia-dlss-support-in-amd-sponsored-fsr-titles/ shows the exact opposite of what you are claiming. Nvidia explicitly states that they do not block devs from implementing FSR. Whereas AMD completely dodges the question.

Here is some backstory.

I've been playing a Tortle Kensei Monk (basically a Ninja Turtle, it rules). My Tortle left his island and became a sailor to see the world. That's how I met up with the party. They took my boat to the main town we're at and I decided to jump ship seeing them all geared out for adventure. The DM has tried to tailor some side missions for each of us and this one was mine. A little more backstory. My tortle is kind of obsessed with fish and shiny rocks. He previously had a coal like rock that appeared as a precious gem to him. The main quest has portals we go through to different realms of gods or some type of celestial beings. I lost that rock by trying to buy our freedom from one of the greedy gods. But I didn't know that once she takes possession of an object, it's unable to leave her realm and if it does, it crumbles.

Anyway, at the main town I met up with a local fishermen Bobby Bones. He was having issues with crab men taking over his fishing spot. He took me and another player out and we took care of them. On this island was a totem with shiny all over it. I couldn't resist and touched it. Out popped a fish genie. He told us an Aboleth had taken over his island and if we took care of it, he would grant me a wish. Never in my 25 years of DND have I encountered a genie or gotten a wish. So this was cool, what could I wish for?

We head back to the town and I explain to the party what we encountered but didn't mention the wish. We did some research on aboleths and were all kinds of unsure about fighting it. I told them the genie said we would all get wishes trying to entice them. Most of them didn't believe me but went along anyway.

We head back to the island, have a knock down drag out with the Aboleth and end up coming out victorious. We encountered some mind controlled pirates on the island. Once we broke the mind control they signaled for their main ship and the DM brought out the Lego ship.

I call the fish genie through his seashell and he appears. We show him the corpse and he says "you may now have one wish" I tried to play dumb and asked if everyone can have a wish, which he shoots down very quickly. So before there is even any discussion with the party, I blurt out "I wish for my shiny rock back!!!" He grants it and the rock appears in my Tortle hand. Everyone throws there hands up. but they took it much better than I expected haha.

And that's how I used a wish in DND to get a shiny rock with zero value back into my possession.

Oh it's janky. It's a standard dining table with the middle section removed. The TV is a cheap Westinghouse that is laying on top of a musical keyboard stand. The table top is some felt glued down with those metal strips hammered in. The maps are created through Inkarnate dot com. We got our "lego" characters through AdventureBricks dot com.
