wanting to hop into the world of linux on a dual boot method (one of my favorite games unfortunately cannot be run on linux at all, and it’s a gacha. Hello everybody, I’m using an Asus S56C with Lubuntu 22.04.4 and for work I use Photoshop CS6 and Vector Magic with Playonlinux. I was wandering - just for curiosity - if there are any good alternatives to Playonlinux to use these Windows programs. Thanks in advance!
Situation: You run a website and want users to have to do some amount of work in order to activate a function in your code. The “function” can be anything: creating an account, receiving some kind of in-game token/reward, dispensing coins from a faucet, whatever. Captchas are becoming increasingly both increasingly complex...
I was thinking about using graphene OS, but I’ve read some lemmy users dislike this OS due to perceived misleading advertising and the pixel 7a you’re supposed to install graphene on because it’s from google (an advertising company)....
I’m thinking of picking up a used ThinkPad on eBay for cheap to serve as my daily driver. I’ll likely run LMDE, and primarily use it for web browsing, office programs, coding, and FreeCAD. Any recommendations on which model would best hit the sweet spot of capability vs price?
It seems like every other week a game studio is massively laying off employees; sometimes after years of development. What I’m reading is that it’s a quick way to lower expenses and pad the investors’ pockets, flooding the market with developers and reducing their value, to then hire them back a few months later at lower...

Gnome won’t break. If you don’t want them calling you up in the middle of a work day saying, “why did the bar at the bottom of the screen disappear!?” or “Berny, my screen turned black!”, install Gnome
Personally, I’m going to stick to Obsidian, because my notes are already there, in markdown, and I can encrypt them with GPG if I want to. But I love to see other options in this space!
No problem! I understand that every project is a little bit different. That’s the beauty of Foss, after all! Just because one solution doesn’t work for me does not mean that it won’t work for everyone. Keep up the good work!
Question: Is there any auto-correct that works globally in all (or at least, many) applications? Particularly non-terminal. So for example firefox (like this text box I’m typing into), chat, text editors, word processors etc?...

I personally switched my mom over to Pocket Casts after the news that Google Podcasts was shutting down. I don’t listen to podcasts, tho, and I really just picked it because it was rated well. It’s also not FOSS
Firefox’s extensions actually let developers do stuff, so we have tons of tab groups extensions. My favorite is Simple Tab Groups. But if you dont like that one, you can swap it out for a different one! DO YOU GET THAT KIND OF CUSTOMIZATION IN EDGE?

Anyone knows how to properly start a multiseat wayland with a desktop environment or window manager running?
I just need simple stuff such as profile initialization of the user and if it's possible to just share the same discrete GPU across multiple seats?
The end result? I want to isolate my current user space from the gaming space where I can just connect using moonlight/sunshine. I want it all headless.
So I’ve had enough from partitioning my HDD between Linux and Windows, and I want to go full Linux, my laptop is low end and I tend to keep some development services alive when I work on stuff (like MariaDB’s) so I decided to split my HDD into three partitions, a distro (Arch) for my dev stuff, a distro (Pop OS) for gaming,...
If you really want to tripleboot Linux, I highly recommend systemd-boot, especially because you are already using Arch, which supports it. I’m sure you could get it to work with Pop.
