Lemmchen,

You can probably use an Elgato Facecam (Mk.2), configure it in a Windows VM and then save the settings directly on the device to use it under Linux.

Lemmchen,

People complain that they won’t respect their lifetime plans forever, but otherwise I haven’t heard anything bad about them.

Lemmchen,

Nah, that was public opinion on /r/datahoarders (I think) back when I still used reddit.

Any good email service except tutamail and proton ?

I am now using disroot . I don’t care about anonymity or anything as I just wanna use it to connect to my bank, ID and buy/book shit etc. Which all have my phone number, address, name etc anyway so no point in that . I just want the security privacy to be good enough that no one can easily hack it, steal my OTP, inbox etc and...

Lemmchen,

But as a third party you can not know which clients are using this outdated http mirror. On BitTorrent you can see every participating peers and some of them are probably enduser machines (depending on the actual implementation of OP’s suggestion).

Lemmchen,

Wow, I think this basically makes Session obsolete.

Lemmchen,

using your simplex profile on both desktop and phone

Why would that be hard?

Lemmchen,

I was one of their strongest advocates, but their progress is unbearably slow. SimpleX for example has advanced a lot more in the same timeframe.
To me it seems like at the current pace they will need another two to three years to solve their problems.

Lemmchen,

The title could use the word “router” somewhere.

Lemmchen,

I’m sure asuswrt-merlin won’t have this nonsense.

Lemmchen,

Do you mean modems?

Lemmchen,

You can also run firefox -p in the terminal.

Lemmchen,

The video discusses criticism of the Linux Foundation and how it spends its funds. While the Linux Foundation is the largest employer of Linux kernel developers, only 2-3% of its budget goes towards that. The rest is spent on various other projects like blockchain, AI, and cloud computing. The video creator argues that the Linux Foundation should allocate more of its funding towards improving the Linux desktop ecosystem, which is underfunded compared to these other initiatives. However, the video acknowledges that the Linux Foundation is beholden to the interests of its corporate members, who likely prioritize the other areas the foundation supports. The video presents the creator’s perspective, while recognizing the Linux Foundation’s right to spend its money as it sees fit.

ytdl: Simple wrapper to yt-dlp with only a subset of options. (github.com)

ytdl is a small script for Linux as an alternative interface to yt-dlp (which itself is a fork from youtube-dl, to download YouTube videos). My goal is to make some of its functionality a bit more accessible for the daily usage. This includes predefined settings and narrowing it down to options I care most about.

Lemmchen,

Doesn’t seem that much simpler, tbh.

Lemmchen, (edited )

Wait, explicit sync is kind of a bug big deal, right?

Lemmchen,

Tox has been pretty much been dead from the beginning. There never was a significant user base.

Lemmchen,

I’m not sure what your comment is supposed to contribute. Should the developers stop developing the software? What changes do you expect?

Lemmchen,

And a person claimed in a later post that “around 300” of their old pictures, some of which were “revealing,” appeared on an iPad they’d wiped per Apple’s guidelines and sold to a friend.

How would that even work? Wiping a device resets the encryption keys, doesn’t it?

Lemmchen,

Both seem equally improbable.

Lemmchen,

First time I’m hearing about this. Why would they drop the licensing fee?

Lemmchen,

Lemmy uses Markdown for formatting, just like Reddit.

Lemmchen,

but Bitcoin does nothing to prevent custodial exchanges, in the way something like Monero does

In what way does Monero prevent that?

Lemmchen,

If I’m not mistaken “su” stands for “switch user”, not " super user".

Lemmchen, (edited )

How does it compare to Jitsi?

Lemmchen,

Does Forgejo have implemented federation yet?

Lemmchen,

Am I the only one thinking Lori comes across as a bit of a dick here?

Lemmchen,

We’re just vocal because we’ve been suffering over the enshittification of Google search for so long.

XZ Hack - "If this timeline is correct, it’s not the modus operandi of a hobbyist. [...] It wouldn’t be surprising if it was paid for by a state actor." (lcamtuf.substack.com)

Thought this was a good read exploring some how the “how and why” including several apparent sock puppet accounts that convinced the original dev (Lasse Collin) to hand over the baton.

Lemmchen,

Consider this the exception to the rule. There’s no reason we should assume this timeline is the norm.

Lemmchen,

Okay, but are they still releasing updates via other channels? The newest version on their website is 3.5.4, the same that I got through the play store.

Lemmchen,

Upgradeable parts = non-soldered RAM and SSD?

Lemmchen,

Does anyone know how they handle spoofed malware? I can never figure out whether I can trust the packages from flathub. I always have to check the official website of the particular software first.

Lemmchen, (edited )

Do I have to manually install PPD?

Lemmchen,

That’s not so much a filter bubble as it is noise reduction. No, I don’t want to have Pinterest results in my search engine. No, I don’t have an Instagram or Twitter account and therefore can’t see the content there anyway. I am developer, so I want to raise the relevance of GitHub in my results.

It is a huge failure in communication to pretend that distro upgrades are entirely different versions of the operating system. It does nothing but make Linux seem more complex than it actually is.

The jump in distro versions, say, from Fedora 38 to Fedora 39, is not the same as the jump from Windows 10 to Windows 11. It’s more like the jump from version 23H2 to 24H2....

Lemmchen,

I don’t think non-LTS Ubuntu releases are technically rolling releases. They are more like shorter supported snapshots.

Lemmchen,

For Ubuntu it is also pretty obvious that the versioning is YEAR.MONTH and that there’s always a .04 and .10 and it should be clear that there aren’t two major upgrades per year.

Lemmchen,

Nice, I was one of those affected by the -20dB bug.

Ecosia.org updates its Privacy Policy (www.ecosia.org)

From September 2023, we will be gradually rolling out our new unique search offer. This will happen over several months and won’t apply to everyone at the same time.
