This is a dumb take bred from perceived superiority.

actions breed habits

Lmao “I got to the polls in November and my muscle memory took over and I voted uncommitted in the general election, since I did it once 8 months ago I couldn’t resist”. This is like Dunning-Kreuger for life in general.

Or is it a “just don’t do anything” enlightened centrist take?

That’s impossible, the IDF is the most moral army in the world…

In July 2013, the leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood organised a massive sit-in in the Rabaa al Adawiya to denounce the the coup.

Security forces later raided the square and killed hundreds of people in a single day in what they termed a counter-terrorism operation.

If your “counter-terrorism” operation involves killing citizens peacefully protesting the ousting of the democratically elected president, then you’re the terrorist.

The real lesson here is that democracy means you vote for the candidate that will benefit USA / Israel.

U.N. report: ‘Convincing’ information Hamas raped, tortured hostages (www.washingtonpost.com)

A team of United Nations experts tasked with gathering information on sexual violence linked to Hamas’s Oct. 7 attacks on Israel found “reasonable grounds to believe” that some victims were sexually assaulted, including rape and gang rape, according to a U.N. report released Monday....

Despite concerted efforts to encourage them to come forward, the mission team was not able to interview any of these survivors/victims

This is a report about information gathered from Israeli sources, including the IDF.

Hamas Says Gaza Truce Possible 'Within 24 To 48 Hours' If Israel Accepts Terms (www.barrons.com)

“If Israel agrees to Hamas demands, which include the return of displaced Palestinians to northern Gaza and increasing humanitarian aid, that would pave the way for a (truce) agreement within the next 24 to 48 hours,” said the official, speaking on condition of anonymity to discuss the sensitive issue, as negotiations were...

Gaza doctor says gunfire accounted for 80% of the wounds at his hospital from aid convoy bloodshed (apnews.com)

The head of a Gaza City hospital that treated some of those wounded in the bloodshed surrounding an aid convoy said Friday that more than 80% had been struck by gunfire, suggesting there was heavy shooting by Israeli troops....

Even worse when you consider the victims were already starving to death.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Not sure if you saw the update but actually Israel didn’t do anything more than just fire a few warning shots!

The review, he said, which gathered information from commanders and troops in the field, determined that no strike was carried out towards the aid convoy.

“The majority of Palestinians were killed or injured as a result of the stampede,” Hagari said.

The dozens of Palestinians with bullet holes in them that day got them from, um, something else.

released a heavily edited video to deflect blame

but it went pretty much exactly how you described it.

Nicaragua Sues Germany at ICJ Over Israel Support, Alleges Genocide Facilitation (bnnbreaking.com)

Nicaragua’s petition centers on accusations that Germany’s actions violate crucial international treaties, including the 1948 Genocide Convention and the 1949 Geneva Convention. By providing financial and military aid to Israel and discontinuing support for the UNRWA, Nicaragua argues, Germany is complicit in facilitating...

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Does that imply that Nicaragua is incapable of recognizing genocide facilitation?

The kettle is black, doesn’t matter who says it.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Yes but anti-semitism has been co-opted to apply only to Jews (erasure of millions of other semitic people, that is, people who speak a semitic language other than Hebrew) just like the Holocaust has come to mean only the Jewish victims of Nazi genocide, which is erasure of the 5 million other victims in the various groups that were killed by Nazis.

I'm relatively unfamiliar with Linux. I'm getting a ThinkPad T460 and want to install Mint on it. Is there anything about the T460 I should know?

It’s probably been 15 years since I’ve used Linux and Mint seems to be the recommended distro for people who aren’t all that familiar with Linux like me, but I didn’t know if there was anything I should know with this ThinkPad model that anyone is familiar with. My searching around shows people saying everything from it...

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

I took a quick look at the specs and the T460 has 2 cores and uses DDR3 ram, so even though Linux is much lighter on resources than Windows, this laptop might not last you too long, considering how heavy even basic web browsing is these days. This computer will choke if you have a lot of tabs open, especially if you have things other than the browser open. I also noticed it has TPM, so just double check that you can replace the OS on this particular machine.

An alternative would be the T480, which would give you more mileage but can’t usually be had for under $100 like the T460.

Glhf!

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

No, the Jews that are already there can stay. More can immigrate if it fits into the national agenda. They just live in Palestine and have to participate in a real democracy instead of an ethnostate. And yes, it must be safe for both Jews and Arabs (and Christians, Beduins etc.).

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Why would they have to leave? Why couldn’t they stay?

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

One major reason Hamas beat out Fatah in the 2006 elections was because Fatah was a

puppet government… with officials who are selected by Israel

Israel has made absolutely no effort toward peace and, like you and other commenters point out, makes tons of effort to eradicate Palestinians and take their land, so a puppet government in Gaza will do nothing but prolong the conflict and keep these periodic “wars” coming. What’s critical to keep in mind is that Israel profits immensly from war, so they have no incentive to stop it. Quite the contrary. Bottom line is that Palestinians will either be wiped out now, or later. Unless action is taken now the human toll will only increase, and the outcome will be the same, genocide.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

I don’t think anyone actually knows how to do this.

This is just standard colonialism.

Nova partygoer was misidentified as Hamas terrorist on Oct. 7, killed by Israeli forces (www.haaretz.com)

Ofek Atun escaped the outdoor Nova rave with his girlfriend. They survived the assault on the bomb shelter in which they took refuge, before fleeing to nearby Kibbutz Alumim. The kibbutz’s volunteer security squad mistook them for Hamas terrorists – and opened fire

When it comes to the side they have monetary or material interests with.

It’s really all about this. Should Russia start gaining influence in eastern Europe it would be an impediment to U.S. hegemony, which is what we are really defending. The whole “human rights and rules-based order” thing is just to get people into the fold who are otherwise uninterested in global dominance (not that they are against it, just that they are not interested. Many of them are what MLK termed “the white moderate”).

What’s really remarkable is that the UN can actually go to Ukraine and investigate without being attacked by Russia, whereas Israel fires on the UN, Doctors Without Borders, kills reporters, their own hostages… literally everyone.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Yea, this isn’t even a story. More like a high school rumor.

bartolomeo,

Why does that list have Serbian, Chinese, and other countries’ companies on it? Don’t American sanctions only affect American corporations? Like if Serbia sanctions some country, is the U.S. supposed to also boycott that country?

Thanks, so just update the UUID in fstab for the stick? Or is there more?

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Ok awesome, thanks for the list, I was just asking user ricecakes about that.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Lmao they are huge these days! But I’m talking about a 40gb partition, cloning it to a 64gb stick.

You can’t even buy 2gb sticks anymore :/

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Wait why can’t I do it live? Thanks for the tips.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

That’s cool, I didn’t know you could use cp on partitions.

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

How woild you do it?

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Ok, thanks. That sounds pretty good.

If i want to compress it and save it as a backup can I do

cat /dev/sda3 | gzip -9 > drive.img.gz

?

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

Thanks, I’m gonna have to read that a few times ':D

bartolomeo,
@bartolomeo@suppo.fi avatar

That worked really well! I got a 50gb partition with about 30gb free space into a 10gb zipped image. Is there any way to show progress during the operation like with dd’s status=progress?
