You can do more than that:

  • Check your registration. Do it now. Do it few more times between now and November.
  • Volunteer. There is nothing quite like talking to people.
  • Donate. Campaigns run on money, and Trump has been raising more than Biden.

It’s also worth paying attention to races further down the ballot; There are lists of close house and close senate races as well as a ton of competitive seats in state legislatures.

He wasn’t ever going to get elected; the big question was whether he could serve as a spoiler and help elect Trump.

The idea was basically that having the name Kennedy and touting his environmental work (from before when a worm ate part of his brain) would suddenly induce a bunch of Democrats to vote for him. So he got to dine with billionaires and they tossed him money.

silence7,

He’s not now but I think that was the pitch to the billionaires.

silence7,

That Saudi. The plan there seems to be to sell off all the oil, and then have the royal family decompress to a more northern latitude with their harems while the rest of the population cooks to death.

In this case, it means that the “independent” expert claiming that guns are frequently used in self-defense is actually paid by them. It’s a common theme when a product is really harmful.

As I said elsewhere in the discussion:

I’d say it created some social permission for the advertising restrictions to happen later. Worth doing, even if it’s not going to be sufficient.

silence7,

Yeah, they started doing this several days back, when the new management came in

Even better, a big chunk of the founders put their name to this treaty paragraph:

I don’t think that much of Congress knew much of anything about Islam, though a few had in fact read a translation of the Koran

Florida Governor DeSantis rejects climate change rationale for record-breaking rain (wapo.st)

At this point, it’s fairly common for significant rainfall events to have attribution studies showing that they’re a result of the higher temperatures that fossil fuel burning has given us. Whether or not we end up with one for this particular event, it’s something that we know will be more common if we keep on extracting...

silence7,

There are always excuses when you’re motivated by the size of bribe the fossil fuels industry can pay

silence7,

It’s not about dumb. it’s that the fossil fuels industry is the biggest patron of the Republican Party, and they know who butters their toast

The billionaires are well-served having frequent mass murders — it keeps minorities in check, and encourages traumatic active-shooter drills in schools.

Crow is more of a Hitler-admiring kind of guy:

He also likes to show off his other Nazi and Hitler heirlooms, notably Hitler’s teapot (engraved with the Führer’s initials and an eagle with its talons gripping the globe), a signed copy of Hitler’s notorious political manifesto Mein Kampf, and even a set of Nazi table linen.

It’s confabulation, which is what people do when they can’t actually say something meaningful but feel an urge to speak. It’s really common for people with mild to moderate cognitive impairment.

There are two options: the first is that the people around him act in his name, and the second is that the cabinet declares him disabled under the 25th amendment, and puts the vice president in charge.

Why scientists fear a second Trump term, and what they are doing about it: Several federal agencies are working to safeguard research, including climate science, from future political meddling. (wapo.st)

The Washington Post has recently started asking people to register in order to access gift links. You can put in a completely made-up email address, as there is no verification of the email address.

You could build a conservatism around conservation of the environment that people depend on, rather than conserving the wealth and privilege of the powerful. That’s not the modern one though, at all.

In sweeping change, Biden administration to ban medical debt from credit reports | The rule, first reported by ABC News, could go into effect sometime next year. (abcnews.go.com)

For context, the poor credit ratings which go with medical debt are concentrated in the south, where states have limited the reach of medical safety-net programs.:...

A big chunk of the population doesn’t pay anyways. Those who do are the ones with assets which might be seized

silence7,

My guess — and I’m not 100% sure — is that it requires them to no longer count towards the credit score once the new rule goes into effect. Which it may not if Trump takes power.
