janNatan,

I don’t care enough about this to do the research. So, does anybody know which slur, in particular, he has now been repeatedly using?

janNatan,

I hear how terrible synthetic-ruber tires (read: all modern tires) are for the environment, and I’ve wondered why we can’t do this? If we made the cars lighter and used very good shocks? Or bikes even - they are all rubber too.

janNatan,

This is the “Lagrangian standard model” - the mathematical formula explaining basically all physics as we know it.

symmetrymagazine.org/…/the-deconstructed-standard…

When you DON’T assume spherical chickens in a vacuum, this is what you gotta calculate.

janNatan,

Hey, friend. I just wanted to let you know that I couldn’t get New Vegas to run on my (up to date) Linux PC until I installed the custom Proton version called “Proton GE.” The GE stands for Glorious Eggroll, which is the username of the developer. There’s guides on how to install it on the GitHub’s readme. I know it may sound complicated to someone new, but you can do it!

Here’s a link to the read me: github.com/GloriousEggroll/proton-ge-custom?tab=r…

Scroll down to the “native” install instructions.

Of course, you can ignore this if New Vegas just works for you as it seems to for many others. My system is MX Linux, not Mint.

janNatan,

Thankfully, nvidia actually released open source drivers for their cards a couple years ago or so. Nvidia cards are much more compatible with Linux now than they used to be.

Proton is a Windows compatibility layer for games developed by Valve for Steam. It’s based on Wine. Wine originally stood for WINdows Emulator, but it now stands for “Wine Is Not (an) Emulator,” which I always found funny. Technically, it is translation layer for system calls, I think. It’s very good these days!

But really, the only thing to know about Proton is that for any game in Steam, you can go into the “compatibility” preferences and enable Proton for that game. This can allow Windows games that Valve doesn’t support to work in Linux. It’s not perfect, however. ProtonDB (database) is a website full of user reviews of how well Proton works with games. They will tell you what tweaks they used to get games working!

janNatan,

Actual box for display.

janNatan,

Mostly just purely nostalgic reasons, computer software in boxes.

janNatan,

Sackware Store seems to be down right now. Unfortunate.

janNatan,

Thanks. I was hoping for an actual set in like a cardboard box.

janNatan,

A play? No, I just saw an old Linux box and wondered if anybody still made them.

janNatan,

Wie komisch! I actually know German, but they don’t deliver to the USA. Thank you, though.

janNatan,

Thank you. I see the DVDs and the USB sticks, but how can you tell which ones actually come as a box set? It’s really the box I’m interested in.

janNatan,

Can I make my own Linux install media? Yes. I do it all the time. Can I make my own software box with cool artwork and booklets and various other goodies? No.

janNatan,

I could, but I have no aptitude for visual art. I’d sooner buy one of the vintage Linux boxes. And I may very well do that.

janNatan,

If you ever sweat, like ever, smart watches may not be for you. I’ve had 3, different brands (all Android Wear OS), and my sweat eventually tarnished the charging contacts to the point of no use (even after being cleaned with alcohol and something abrasive) all three times.

So, if you sweat, you’re gonna wanna make sure the charging contacts don’t touch your skin. Ever.

janNatan,

Uhm… Why not just Souts of America?

janNatan,
janNatan,

Do the development versions have a history of having more risqué splash screens? Is there a list of them somewhere?

janNatan,

What did the penis guy say? Also, who’s the penis guy?

janNatan,

I decided to fully convert to Linux on my living room PC because I was convinced these random display drops I was getting were being caused by Windows. (I was right.)

I had a drive that I wanted to leave alone, because it had my videos and music and such. I wanted to try a new (to me) distro, so I just started using high rated ones I found on distro watch. The first two I tried (I honestly forget which) would NOT leave my video drive alone during installation (even with advanced options). The third one was MX, and it successfully installed while leaving my video drive alone. I liked that. I am used to xfce, and I like some of the custom little tweaks that MX adds to it, like easily making custom folder themes. I like that it can install .deb files and pretty much everything I’ve tried to run so far has worked.

So, yeah, that’s why I like MX. I have since installed it on my laptop, my office PC, and my husband is dual booting it. It even runs his v-tube software, which blew us away. I know most of this isn’t unique to MX, but it just seems to work really well for us.

janNatan,

Even if it did work, why would you do it? You’d still be playing League of Legends.

janNatan,

Other players in FO76 are actually very nice. If your low level, high level people will just go up to you and give you things. PVP is optional and I never turned it on. You’re incentivised to join teams with many perks. You can just follow a team mate around and help them, and I’ve done that many times. Teams are temporary and small (max 4 players) so people are very open to you joining a team.

janNatan,

Unconventional way to take acid, but I support him.

janNatan,

“Dual boot friendly” means installing Linux on its own hard drive, just so you know. If you don’t do that, it’s likely the next Windows update will screw up the Linux bootloader. Maybe that’s gotten better, but it’s what I’d recommended from past experience.

janNatan,

I’m pretty sure OP is saying job hunting has gotten worse because job board websites are throttled.

janNatan,

He looks like a floating zombie. (I know he just threw a ball.)

janNatan,

Some of y’all never drank Everclear and it shows.

janNatan,

Libre office or open office, what do you guys think? I’ve used both from time to time.

janNatan,

I thought it said “understandable,” and I was like, “yeah.”

janNatan,

Pish posh.

Also, please censor Bri*ish next time.

janNatan,

I liked the Darkchylde form. Still not my kinda game. I might play for a second if they add Phoenix just because.

janNatan,

“You guys are getting prostate exams?”

janNatan,

I always do a more of a low-tier build myself, so I may not be the best person to offer my advice. But, it looks good to me. I was gonna say I’ve never heard of the case brand and make sure it won’t be a hassle to build in, but it looks very open and easy to use.

janNatan,

I haven’t tired enough to recommend one. I can certainly advise you to steer clear of Thermaltake though. I had one of theirs that I hated because cable management was just nearly impossible in it.

janNatan,

Nobody asked, but if anybody is curious: “dick” is the German word for “thick.”

You may now resume your laughter.

janNatan,

Maybe. But in modern German, the ‘th’ sound makes a hard T, not a hard… Oh, nevermind.

janNatan,

It’s actually pretty good. there’s a little jank but a lot of heart. I was surprised to see that Every pal had battle, working, eating, and petting animations.

janNatan,

I think that’s the guy who popularized Alfredo pasta. There’s a great episode of Max Miller’s “Tasting History” about it (YouTube).

janNatan,

Lae’zel is cool, and Shadowheart was always so rude to her (and by extension, me). I spoke to her so little that I didn’t even realize she needed to be around for the nightsong quest. I completed it without her, and she got angry then left. I didn’t even apologize.

No regrets.

janNatan,

Series S is the cheapest way to play the game by an absurd margin? Steam Deck is only about $100 more and it plays the game just fine.

janNatan, (edited )

I play at 900p60. Turn literally everything to low or off except textures at medium. Enable the AMD upscaling to the highest quality setting (forget what it’s called). Be sure to turn off Antialiasing (don’t really need it at high resolutions) and God rays. Turn off all optional things but those two are the most important. Also, if BG3 is installed to an SD card, then enable slow HDD mode.

It still stutters a little when transitioning to cut scenes, but I believe that exists in all PC versions.

Edit: And I have made it (what I think is) mostly through Act 2. I’ve also hosted an online session with my friend (who also plays on Steam Deck using my settings) and my husband (gaming laptop) with no issues.

janNatan,

Yes, a 256GB+ SD Card. Be sure to enable slow HDD mode in BG3 settings if you’re installing to an SD Card. (It will help loading screen times at the cost of using more RAM.)

janNatan, (edited )

I installed it onto a 256GB SD card. The Deck has an sd card slot.

janNatan,

I’m said the Xbox is not the cheapest, by a huge margin. It is, in fact, the cheapest by a $100 margin, which is not huge.
