It looks like a chicken and egg problem: you don’t have commercial software available on Linux so people won’t use it, so you don’t have enough user base to justify the development of Linux versions. This won’t be solved unless a big company like Valve decides that Linux is the way and start solving basic issues like usability and installation of apps.

The part that gets me is “cratering bonuses”. They canceled projects and ruined people’s lives by firing them not because the company was hurting, or in heavy debt, or facing bankruptcy, but because their managers and C-level executives earned a bit less than usual due to poor planing and management.

Appimages are awesome for the regular user. Single file, just double click to run anywhere. Snap and Flatpak should die a quick death and all the work should be used to improve Appimages. There’s no other concept for the end user as simple and clear as this.

Thank you. Windows is plain better for the average user, and that’s a hard pill for many to swallow. Heck, I force myself to use Linux time to time but I always go back because the Affinity suite and my fingerprint reader only works on Windows. I have no reason to stay on Linux, it’s too limited outside niche cases.

I don’t get the downvotes, you made a really good point. The Hells Angels used to use Nazi iconography not because they were sympathisers, but because they thought it looked cool and it pissed people off. Not the brightest idea if you ask me.

While I get the idea behind adopting Satan, I don’t think it’ll do any favors against Christians other than call them out. This is why I prefer to call myself an Atheist than Satanist, it gets my point clearer.

People keep parroting that Threads will kill us all but won’t explain how it could happen to the fediverse. As in, actual steps. Because Flipboard federated and I’m not flooded with news posts. Mastodon is used for Nazi instances and I’m not flooded by Nazi content, even if the maintainer don’t block that particular instace due to not knowing it exists.

No, XMP is not a valid example. It requires specific people to be on that specific platform for you to connect with them, like iMessage and WhatsApp. The fediverse is nothing like that.

Can someone explain exactly how EEE will happen? Technically? Other than FUD?

Lots of illustrators and writers have Threads and Instagram because it’s where the money is. They rely on that kind of exposure to sell and show their work. Following from Mastodon without a Threads account would be awesome.

Not to mention that many Mastodon users are ridiculously “purists” saying that no ad or sell should be on the network, ever, and are actively hostile to the small guys trying to make a living here. I agreed that big corps can fuck off because they overdo ads, but the small guy selling his weird contraptions or custom phone cases should see Mastodon as an alternative. But the truth is that they won’t.
