Privacy@lemmy.ml: An open source two factor auth app that syncs keys between devices?

Isn’t the value of two factor auth that it requires a physical device (your phone or computer) with the auth key to authenticate you? Then why don’t many two factor auth apps seem to support syncing? If it’s fine to do so, are there any open source cross platform apps that sync keys?

What is the most appropriate way of tracking web traffic?

I have my personal blog, made with Hugo and hosted on GitHub pages. Initially I did not turn on any kind of web tracking / web analytics, because I do not like tracking at all. But I want to make my blog better and to achieve it, I need a feedback loop about traffic. For example, what are the most popular publications, or how...

addressing misconceptions about the recent TunnelVision vulnerability

I’ve been seeing a lot of confusion around the TunnelVision vulnerability. While I’m no expert, I’ve done a fair share of research and I’ll edit this post with corrections if needed. The goal of this post is to answer the question: does this affect me?...

Any web site that lets you share files with people like xender ?

I remember there being apps like xender, easy share etc. which lets you share files by one person activating hotspot and the other wifi you just have to have both party close to each other and they use no data . But they are all closed source and probably spyware and its too much of a hassle to get others to download a file...

Anyone know exactly what info Youtube captures from you from its browser version (and by what means)?

I know the prevailing sentiment for a long time in the privacy community has been “DAE Youtube bad?” though I have always thought that it is kinda overblown. Besides, I am using Firefox which is supposed to isolate tabs so they can’t speak to each other, so I felt a small amount safer using Youtube....

Privacy concerns with DHCP (DHCP fingerprinting)

So many people here will go though great lengths to protect themselves from fingerprinting and snooping. However, one thing tends to get overlooked is DHCP and other layer 3 holes. When your device requests an IP it sends over a significant amount of data. DHCP fingerprinting is very similar to browser fingerprinting but unlike...

Looking for recommendations for homebrew security system cameras

A friend of mine is helping me with setting up a Linux-based homebrew security system set up. He’s currently using Wyze cameras, but they are faulty and have ads on them, so I’d like to find something more open-source/closed system that I can control completely. Any recommendations or pointers in the right direction would be...

Anti-web discrimination by banks and online services - is this even legal?

Banks, email providers, booking sites, e-commerce, basically anything where money is involved, it’s always the same experience. If you use the Android or iOS app, you stayed signed in indefinitely. If you use a web browser, you get signed out and asked to re-authenticate constantly - and often you have to do it painfully using...

Thoughts on Guard.io as a service for lesser tech savvy family members?

Hi there, So just watched latest video of Jim Browning and in the video he had a sponsor I had not heard about before, Guard.io. So I went to check it out, and it seems like a fairly decent service (by that I mean, a service I would put on family members devices) for helping against possible phishing attempt and general...
