Man I love that series, at least the first, Second and third seasons.
I love the idea of the show, the first enterprise as we know it, with none of the fancy tech and comfort of the other shows, the pioneering scent it has.
But they had to screw it up, the execs put their dirty hands on the show and ruined a lot of it, the first season would be on earth? Nooooo, not generic enough, There will be no transporters? Noooooo, too different, also: sexualize T’pol to the Delta quadrant and back.
And man I hate so much the time wars thing, I suspect the execs also forced it into the show, because I guess? Idk, they killed what could have been a great show.
I would even be glad for some sort of reboot of Enterprise, following a lot more of the original ideas of the show and characters, taking away all the dumb and continuing all the storyline with the Human-Romulan conflict.
Germany wants to be climate neutral by 2045. But a panel of government climate advisers says it’s already in danger of missing a key target to cut planet-heating emissions by the end of the decade....
My country tries to go carbon neutral in a way that’s physically possible to do so, but sadly our efforts here are way meaningless if a much bigger and more contaminating country like Germany goes and opens up coal plants.
We’re a tiny country, we hardly have an impact, Germany is not.
I saw, like everyone else all the news of Germany expanding coal mines, reactivating coal power plants while having the means to not do that (keep using nuclear a while longer), I’m 19, climate change is scary A.F., what can I say, It’s a terrible news to hear that a western country reopens that kind of plant just because reasonably irrational fear of the alternative to it, here in Chile there is a big compromise to do something about it, but like the figures I show above, we don’t matter that much, is hearth breaking to know that my whole country depends on the collective action of countries like you, I feel I can do nothing but to watch while still having to face the consequences.
A woman will lead the country for the first time in history. President López Obrador’s successor has won a second term for the National Regeneration Movement and stifled the conservative coalition’s aspirations...
Germany, the country that’s doing the environmental transition backwards…
Nuclear energy is safe, unfuckably safer than what your government is doing right now, you talk so much on the future yet you’re replacing a clean yet not renewable form of energy with the most greenhouse gas emitting shit out there.
Nuclear fuel can be contained in a safe way that doesn’t require active human monitoring (burying it deep) coal power plant waste is stored in your lungs and in our atmosphere, in what universe is that better.
People are afraid of things they don’t understand, so instead of voting for a party that makes a dance party while they demolished a town for expanding a coal mine they should sit down for 5 minutes and read a bit about it.
My country, once a victim it self of American intervention, now has a exterior policy to be proud of, it always takes a posture for peace, human rights, democracy and international rights.
Is complicated, every Chilean you ask will have a different opinion, but I think there are many reasons to think that chile will manage and there is hope for the future, you can make a post in !chile, the Chilean community on lemmy too.
A lot of Chileans don’t like chile, but IMO they just fall in the “neighbour has geener grass” fallacy, we have a lot of problems but we have a lot of the tools to fix them, tools that many other countries don’t.
I think that, provided you have studies or some money, chile is a great country to live, Chilean culture, at its core, has a lot of solidarity, people do think about other people, specially in a natural disaster.
The government, as much as they have done dumb shit, it’s generally competent in keeping the country afloat, they got everyone vaccinated from COVID very early for example.
Good infrastructure, public and private health, tons of natural beauty, is reasonably safe, even if less than in the past, yeah, I like chile, I think I’m lucky to have been born here, could have been a lot worse.
You may like chile too, I can’t say, but, specially if you hold on to an online US job (Chilean jobs pay way less) you should be pretty fine here as an American.
