I mean… I can still take some scalp if that’s what I need…

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

Well, someone already made Kingdom Rush. But we can all pretend that the British TV show “Time Commanders” would have been a great idea for table RTS controls.

They do what they say on the tin, pump out a dirt cheap game for your franchise. For some licence holders, that’s enough.

StarCraft could return, according to Blizzard president, but not necessarily as an RTS (www.pcgamer.com)

While Blizzard is very much focussed on its big money-makers like its various Warcraft games, from WoW to Hearthstone to Warcraft Rumble, as well as Diablo and the much-maligned Overwatch 2, he’s still open to StarCraft making a comeback. That said, RTS fans shouldn’t get their hopes up. While the series might return, that...

Why is the s in brackets…?

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

Okay, but the word cards is just plural in that sentence. I’m obviously not questioning the basis of credit card usage.

ChaoticEntropy,

This is where they once again find out that there just isn’t enough money in direct website video game journalism at this point.

I did immediately think “wait what are Digital Extremes up to…?”, before seeing WoW.

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

How would they even retrofit that…? Maybe it could do splitscreen through something like Steam Play Together, at least.

erroneously flag

They were legitimately picking up an activity that they generally try to prevent. AMD was using a technique to apply Anti-Lag+ that was expressly monitored for, to provide anti-cheat.

Did people think that it was just the US military encouraging CoD to bump recruitment numbers? The world’s biggest franchise is rife with other companies with fingers in a pie.

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

You say this, but companies do love to pretend that employees are numbers and are replaceable but then key devs/designers/product people start leaving and you end up with a real brain drain for all the deeply entrenched institutional knowledge that projects rely upon. They are literally going to need to relearn how to make a good Total War.

Are least Britannia was honest about being a saga game, Pharaoh is pretending that it is a mainline release.

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

I don’t have it, but I hear it is also a fork of an older version of the Stellaris code base so it comes with older bugs and less QoL improvements. ^^’

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

This kind of development cycle feels far too reminiscent of what I see in my own job. One company holds the purse strings and just treats the other company as an obliging software house whilst removing its own sense of direction.

ChaoticEntropy,

In other news, James Corden is available for corporate parties.

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

What is worth 30 dollars to you…? You said you’d have paid 15 for this, which is absurdly low in this day and age. A small expansion pack in the early 2000s would have cost more than that.

You want double the content in this DLC for 30?

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

What a bizarrely corporate measure of quality this is… this is how you end up with mile wide, inch deep grind fests that just ooze “value” by pure volume. I think expecting this amount of content for $15 at this point just means that you can expect no content at all, because it won’t be commercially viable to keep all your dev teams spun up to work on it, along with patches.

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

On the one hand, happy to get the opportunity… on the other hand, this kind of just increases the testing overhead needed to finalise the preview version and ship the final version to more devices. Win some, lose some.

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

Well, I had seen them partner with Black Rifle Coffee at some point, which is a pretty pro-MAGA branded company. Their content doesn’t seem to lean that way though.

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

It was an Epic exclusive… so they must have gotten paid something already. Did they just take the signing pay and then cut their losses…?

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

SEGA spent the most money ever… on a game that was years late to an old sub-genre, while mimicking games that had already failed like Lawbreakers. Great job.

You can’t keep a good grifter down.

ChaoticEntropy,

He knows the buttons to push to sell his snake oil.

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

Most of “his” genuinely good games seem to deliver despite him, not because of him. Beyond his ability to deceive enough investors/gamers to get funding for other people to pull something good from the fire he creates, what else does he do.

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

He’s more of a snake oil salesman than a Musk, who makes the pitch, takes the money and vanishes off to another scheme.

Musk likes to become very involved and get his hands dirty, even if it’s often just from his own faeces that he is throwing at the wall.

A seminal classic!

ChaoticEntropy,

I remember having just the demo installed for the longest time and just playing that brief section of the game over and over. It was just so damn cinematic and awesome.

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

Yeah, I’m not a completionist and I found it just in the normal course of playing the game…

ChaoticEntropy,
@ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

I enjoy these games and their premise but their dedication to not giving a shit about PC players is a real turn off.

    They recommend a better computer now that they’ve added more CPU heavy interactions to the game, go figure. How has the minimum changed?

    ChaoticEntropy, (edited )
    @ChaoticEntropy@feddit.uk avatar

    The game runs the same or better on the hardware I have after the 2.0 patch. There are just more options to use, and thus the recommended has increased.

    Some things you can’t take back, especially when as CEO you don’t even try to take it back but just indicate that they might scale some of its extremes back. For now.

    Not just “can” but, from statements from the CEO, still plan to… just a little later.

    ChaoticEntropy,

    Outlets these days are more than happy to signal boost random controversial statements for clicks. Every time I see something that says “receiving hundreds of likes on Twitter”… that’s nothing. That’s practically nothing.

    What is up with Baldur's Gate 3?

    This is not a criticism - I love how much attention this game has been getting. I’m just not understanding why BG3 has been blowing up so much. It seems like BG3 is getting more attention than all of Larian’s previous games combined (and maybe all of Obsidian’s recent crpgs as well). Traditionally crpgs have not lit the...

    Yeah, it feels a bit less grimy doom and gloom, despite the narrative and themes. Being fully voice acted, and well, helps to no end with what can otherwise turn in to a wall of text reading slog.
