Russia Victory Day parade: Only one tank on display as Vladimir Putin says country is going through 'difficult period' (news.sky.com)

On 9 May every year, Russia celebrates Victory Day, putting on a large parade in honour of the country’s victory over Nazi Germany 79 years ago - in what remains an important symbol of the country’s national identity....

Cheradenine,

They did the same thing in 2023, one tank, a WWII T-34 last year.

The Second World War T34 tank was the only one present - as it was last year too.

I thought this story sounded familiar.

Trying to understand Consent Forms, Cookies and Third-Party Vendors (slrpnk.net)

Yo peeps, I’m currently looking into TCF Vendors, Ad partners and their whole corporate greed hellhole of tracking. I am writing a paper on this, and would like for everything to be factually correct. However, I am struggling to understand one particular part of this “transparency framework” and hope someone can help me...

Cheradenine,

As a guess I would say that means they don’t set cookies themselves, they do use cookies that are set by different services.

Which would be a nice way for them to not have legal responsibility.

Cheradenine,

I can’t visit them directly (they are on 5 different DNS block lists). Looking at Internet Archive I would say it’s cookies set by Google, probably through Firebase Analytics, maybe AdMob.

Cheradenine,

I like Image pipe. f-droid.org/…/de.kaffeemitkoffein.imagepipe/

It’s also tiny at 550k compared to imagetoolbox at 57mb

Cheradenine,

Me too. I thought ‘good news for a change’, but can’t find anything except him still being butthurt for getting recorded using the n word.

What are your thoughts on invizible pro ? (f-droid.org)

The app seems fairly small in size compared to orbot which is really old and also invizible pro seems to do a ton of things including firewall vpn etc . So does it connect to tor network properly and pass all your traffic through it as good as orbot and completely block internet acces to not whitelisted services as good as...

Cheradenine,

I used it previously then switched to RethinkDNS.

I like the blocking abilities and the logging more with RethinkDNS. I never used I2P so that was moot for me.

With RethinkDNS I can pick the Hagezi blocklist and No Facebook, as an example, quite easily. I can also individually block domains and IPs. Dnscrypt doesn’t allow that much precision.

It also has features like allow/disallow only on WiFi or data, block apps not in use, block all apps when device is locked, plus a bunch more stuff.

It integrates with Orbot, but Orbot must also be installed.

Really I can’t say anything bad about InviziblePro, I prefer RethinkDNS, you might not though.

Cheradenine,

I prefer the RethinkDNS firewall as it is more granular in what it can block. Say you have the Wikipedia app, you can block intake-analytics.wikimedia.org and still allow meta.wikimedia.org

InviziblePro can be setup to start on boot. DnsCrypt, Tor, and I2P can all be toggled individually in the settings.

Cheradenine,

Yes, Tor can be set to start on boot, and there is a run all traffic through Tor setting. I’m pretty sure I remember one time when Tor failed during a session and things still worked though. With RethinkDNS this does not happen tough. When Orbot loses connection, quits, whatever, RethinkDNS will still send it traffic (if configured to do so) but it will not leave the device because Orbot is not running.

Like I said, I really prefer RethinkDNS

Cheradenine,

Hmm, I’ve never had an issue with it. Orbot itself sometimes has problems, but even that is becoming rare in my use.

Cheradenine,

NB I have not used LibreWolf, I don’t think there are any site specific toggles in about:config. This probably doesn’t help but some Android Webviews do allow this.

You probably considered this already but as a workaround could you use one browser when you need WebGL and another when you do not.

Cheradenine,

🎶Stop your messing around, you better think of your future🎶

Cheradenine,

Unfortunately they are the example, there isn’t anything better.

Argentina asks to join NATO as President Milei seeks a more prominent role for his nation (apnews.com)

Argentina formally requested on Thursday to join NATO as a global partner, a status that would clear the way for greater political and security cooperation at a time when the right-wing government of President Javier Milei aims to boost ties with Western powers and attract investment....

Cheradenine,

That was my argument with an ex years ago about turning the phone off at night.

‘What if it’s important?’

’ no one ever calls at 3am to say there’s 4 hooker’s, an 8 ball, and 10k cash waiting outside in a limo, it’s always your favorite grandmother died. She’ll still be fucking dead at 8 after I’ve had a shower and coffee, turn the phone off.

Cheradenine,

They have been doing things like this since at least the '70’s .

Got tracked down for my school reunion

Today I was contacted by someone at work. She graduated school with me and our 20 year reunion was coming up. Why did she contact me at work? It was the only way they were able to track me down. I was included in promotional material by name. She told me I "was the hardest to track down"and I had to smile....

Cheradenine,

Agreed. If I am not in contact with you there is a reason.

Do you take pictures with GPS tags on?

Hiya, so quickly wondering wether you have enabled this or not. Obviously it’s not great for privacy, but it also seems very nice to have for image cloud solutions, so that images can be sorted based on location. Are there any good solutions for this? I’d like have it enabled, but also afraid of sharing images with sensitive...

Cheradenine,

I keep location, WiFi, and Bluetooth off always. To each their own.

Cheradenine,

There is data. I said location, WiFi, and Bluetooth. I don’t need them for anything I do.

Filen automatic background upload

I really want to try Filen as my main cloud provider but my main brake point is that the app doesn’t automatically upload my images in the background. I’m not sure if this is because I’m on the free plan or because of my device, has anyone had better luck with the automatic image upload in the background?

Cheradenine,

I can’t answer your question. Since this is degoogle though I will say that the app has trackers from both Google and Sentry.

Cheradenine,

You know that review is 17 months old right?

Cheradenine,

Well I don’t understand linking to a review of an outdated version.

Cheradenine,

Have you tried setting a custom DNS? I have an old iPhone I use for reading when I have my coffee (no Sim}, I use ControlD on it and am happy.

Cheradenine,

Have you tried the app Lockdown? It’s a firewall (free) and VPN (optional, paid). The firewall seems to work quite well, at least according to their logs, and it’s open source.

lockdownprivacy.com

ETA: not to be confused with lockdown mode

Cheradenine,

I used it previously, not I2P though. Then I switched to RethinkDNS which I like better since it allows more control over what apps can do. It integrates with Orbot, so I can still use TOR.

Study finds voters skeptical about fairness of elections. Many favor a strong, undemocratic leader (apnews.com)

Voters in 19 countries, including in three of the world’s largest democracies, are widely skeptical about whether their political elections are free and fair, and many favor a strong, undemocratic leader, according to a study released Thursday....

Cheradenine,

Exactly,

I never thought the leopards would eat my face

Cheradenine,

Yes, it would be great if people linked to source, then gave the archive link

Cheradenine, (edited )

How to you do it?

My process is I rinse peppers of dirt, chop or purée depending on whim mostly, and loosely cover.

After X amount of time, usually when they are significantly off gassing and look gross, I simmer and add a little vinegar.

I like xanthan gum, but do not add it to hot sauce. I use it to stabilize things like BBQ sauce when the flavor is right but the texture/ thickness is off.

ETA: they look really nice

Cheradenine,

Those are not mine, you can look through my profile and see some I made.

X days mostly depends on ambient temperature and yeast activity on the chili.

Cheradenine,

They will settle and separate. They will also continue to ferment unless you kill it off (not always a bad thing).

The usual methods are heat, acid, cold crashing, or a mix. Heat and acid are my favorites for hot sauces, cold crashing for things like fresh berry sodas. They all work, but the flavor is different with each one.

Enjoy your experiments.

Cheradenine,

I love a bit of garlic in my sauce.

Just cold crashing will not last as long, that may not be a problem for you though if you use it quickly. ‘Quickly’ isn’t really a timeframe, it will be obviously ‘off’ when it’s off. That depends on initial time, temp, activity.

I love fermenting things, it’s really interesting to see the changes.

You can read up on the science, but just playing around is as useful IMHO.

Cheradenine,

rethinkdns.com the android app is also an excellent firewall with logging. I use a custom config on my router. I can’t say enough good things about this.

simplex.chat Android/ iOS/ macOS/ Linux/ Windows getting people to switch is a pita though.

Cheradenine,

Try github.com/MuntashirAkon/AppManager you can use Obtanium or find it on f-droid. This will scan apps for tracker and permissions (and much more).

Exodus does not always report correctly, usually it misses things, but sometimes it goes the other way.

The f-droid version shows no trackers.

You would have to Allow tracking for this to work.

Cheradenine,

On Android you can use Stealth . That’s what I use for searches that pull up Reddit posts.

It also lets you subscribe to subs without having an account if you want. You actually do not have the option to sign in on Stealth.

ETA: this works with VPNs and Orbot

Cheradenine,

I never said it did. If you had bothered to actually read my comment or look at the link you would have seen that I was referencing the app Stealth.

Cheradenine,

I only get the ‘something went wrong’ error when a post has been scraped, then deleted. So you go to load it but it no longer exists.

I just tried it again before replying and it worked fine for me.

Cheradenine,

It is odd, it still works fine for me.

That notice has been there since the third party change. Under ‘Data’ - ‘Reddit Source’ I had to change it from ‘Teddit’ to ‘Reddit’. Teddit stopped working quite soon after the API change.

Cheradenine,

I am using Orbot, which always shows up as a TOR exit node. Strange that they would allow that. I always pick somewhere in western Europe so my time zone stays the same.

Cheradenine,

Thank you, that was an interesting read into more of the net than I understand.

Cheradenine,

For some of my browsers I do spoof the user agent, for others it is stock. Mull has Privacy Resist Fingerprint enabled for instance, this happens in all the browsers I have loaded. Mull, Smart Cookie Web Preview, Fennec, Iceraven, Cromite, Mulch, Fulguris, Monocles, Privacy, FOSS, DDG.

Cheradenine,
Cheradenine,

With Orbot. Changing my exit, whether country or specific IP doesn’t seem to matter.

Cheradenine,

With Orbot I can use it across everything. Using TOR browser with Orbot does not seem to work.

Cheradenine,

Which is current according to their site, 3.5.4

I can’t read archive.is links

Cheradenine,

I am not trying to argue but what is the issue? The site shows the same release as F-Droid.
