Do any of y'all know where I can get a retro box?

My college roommate had this little box that had 2 controllers and RCA’d into the TV that contained basically every game from the most important retro consoles. All the important consoles and games pre y2k. Including Nintendo, Atari, Sega, and maybe some arcade. I assume I can’t get it through normal channels because of some...

CmdrShepard,

It’d be less than half the price to buy a Raspberry Pi 4 and you can even get a custom case.

CmdrShepard,

You don’t need an 8GB Pi for gaming. Most of these run on a 1GB Pi3

CmdrShepard,

Nothing wrong with streaming nudity, but Twitch is specifically marketed to children for the purpose of watching people play video games. Blending porn in that with an algorithm that throws new videos in your face is a recipe for disaster.

Your “supposed to be clearly labeled” argument is really doing a lot of the heavy lifting here and ignores the reality of people gaming the system or finding loopholes and we all know there aren’t going to be any real people moderating the site just like every other social media/video streaming site.

They really should have split it up into two different sites because I see this blowing up in their face spectacularly.

CmdrShepard,

Yes, anyone with access to the internet is able to seek out porn which is why it seems unnecessary to risk pushing it in the faces of kids on a site marketed to children.

I find the incel comment hilarious considering you’re the one pushing for more women getting naked in game streaming videos like some thirsty dude.

CmdrShepard,

Why the fuck is this guy interviewing someone who doesn’t even work for the developer about a game that is still years away from coming out?

CmdrShepard,

How can you measure this off 3 days of activity? Do they assume people sit and play video games 24/7?

CmdrShepard,

They had slim variants going back to the Playstation/PS1. More recently was the “pro” models coming out trying to jump on the Apple marketing bandwagon.

CmdrShepard,

Not to mention with all the supply chain issues, most people weren’t even able to get a PS5 until the last year or so and I’m sure none of those people want to repurchase a slightly upgraded version so soon.

CmdrShepard,

Traditionally, console makers like Sony and Microsoft often create a mid-cycle console refresh,

Am I tripping or did this only happen once each? Was there some PS3 Pro or Xbox 360X that I missed?

console makers have been releasing slim versions for years

what the fuck are you even talking about?

It’s a little early to be drinking, bud

CmdrShepard,

The article just states a “mid-cycle refresh” which doesn’t necessarily mean it has to outpace the original in performance.

CmdrShepard,

Something something “it’s just as illegal for the rich man to sleep under a bridge as it is for the poor man to sleep under a bridge.”

CmdrShepard,

Jesus christ I was wondering why the name sounded so familiar.

CmdrShepard,

The first was embarrassing too like claiming your McDonald’s food is the best because it outsells my tri-tip.

CmdrShepard,

I don’t know who this guy is or anything about the situation other than what’s written here, but if he’s naming specific charities supposedly receiving these donations, it makes zero sense that they’d be “looking for a good charity to donate to.” If that were the case there’d be zero reason to name the ones they did.

CmdrShepard,

They’ve never sold this many copies of MW3 before. It’s an unprecedented amount.

CmdrShepard,

The article makes zero mention of digital sales though so it doesn’t support OP’s claim about “selling more than any other COD.”

CmdrShepard,

34 years after one of the most popular handhelds was released “these things are the future of gaming!!1!.”

CmdrShepard,

I think it’s the screen, actually, and I don’t see much they can do about those.

CmdrShepard, (edited )

They also recently announced that all unlicesenced third party accessories will cease to work with the Xbox as of a couple days ago.

CmdrShepard,

I have Ad Guard installed and still use UBlock Origin for its features.

CmdrShepard,

I think I read in another post that this occurs if you’re using Cloudflare DNS. I have the same thing happen even if I open the link outside of Lemmy.

CmdrShepard,

I believe they can also load all that debt into these acquisitions before taking what they want and selling the rest off in bankruptcy, no?

CmdrShepard,

That isn’t unique to consoles. I have plenty of games on PC that tell me I need to install some third-party launcher and then update the game when I try to open it.

CmdrShepard,

“Get with the times” he says without realizing that console players far exceed PC gamers, nor acknowledging all the scalping that has gone on with GPUs for a half a decade or more. If your PC costs 3x the price of a console to build, you’re not saving any money just because Steam has some games on sale.

CmdrShepard,

Same but the nihilist in me wants them to do it anyways. Better to rip the bandaid off in one go than to deal with jumping through hoops for several years until they ultimately remove it from Google search anyway. With a clean break, we can start rebuilding that trove of knowledge somewhere else and hopefully not all in one place again.

CmdrShepard,

I don’t understand why anyone would buy the $450 digital version plus a $70 Bluray disc drive add-on rather than just paying $500 for a disc model capable of playing blurays and games. Very strange on Sony’s part.

CmdrShepard,

I think it’s because most people already tried out the Quest 2 since it was a bargain. I bought one and forget I even own it most of the time and the same goes for 4/5 of the other people I know with one.

VR is not bad but it nothing about it has really drawn me in at all.

CmdrShepard,

Not so surprising to me. The same thing happened to the PSVR 1.

CmdrShepard,

I think it’s a reference to it’s smaller size.

CmdrShepard,

Why are they even continuing to invest money into this dead IP? They milked the show way too long and lost all their fans.

Twitter/X anonymous login and no Government censorship

Today I realized that is possible login on twitter with a temp mail through VPN in a complete anonymous way. I think it’s a very good thing. I don’t understand why here a lot of people criticize Elon Musk. I think that now it’s a platform more open to debates, it’s almost free speech. No other popular big tech platform...

CmdrShepard,

Yes, Musk recently intervened personally to unban a guy who posted CSAM that remained up for a week and got millions ofn vews . That must be the type of ‘free speech’ OP is referring to.

Backwards compatibility is the best feature of Xbox, and I don't understand why Sony is so far behind on this

When I got the XSX recently, it was so I can play Starfield when it comes out. That was basically the only reason. I did not realize the extensive backwards compatibility that this thing has. But since getting it, I’ve been playing FF13 trilogy, Fable games, Dragon Age series, Lost Odyssey, etc. Basically all games of note...

CmdrShepard,

Not to mention the closer you get to modern day, the more games rely on company servers to remain running. Long gone are the days of simple platformers like Super Mario Bros. Many games made in the last 15 years are multi-player games with a basic ass single player added on for ‘compliance’ reasons. It’d still be great for those that want it, but I don’t feel like I’m missing out on much that I can’t replicate myself with ROMs and emulators should the need arise.

CmdrShepard,

“Pay us $25 extra to use your own hardware or we’ll ban you!” ~Microsoft

CmdrShepard,

It sounds oike people aren’t getting banned for playing games, they’re getting banned for using an emulator without paying Microsoft a vig.

CmdrShepard,

I totally agree but it just reminded me of a discussion I had with someone here a couple weeks ago where they talked about the “great advancements” Microsoft has made in the console space compared to Sony and this was one of their primary arguments.

Phil Spencer announces Call of Duty deal with PlayStation

“We are pleased to announce that Microsoft and @PlayStation have signed a binding agreement to keep Call of Duty on PlayStation following the acquisition of Activision Blizzard. We look forward to a future where players globally have more choice to play their favorite games.”...

CmdrShepard,

Honestly the franchise is probably due for a shakeup at this point anyway. You can only release the same game over again each year for so long. I used to be a diehard Battlefield fan but have only played maybe 10 minutes worth of 2142 after owning it for 6 months or more.

CmdrShepard,

Oh yeah those poor developers are missing out on so much money when I download a 30 year old video game that hasn’t been sold for 29 of those years. I suppose buying a used copy is the only way to support them, no? Oh wait…

CmdrShepard,

That's too easy. Are you even playing Tomagotchi if you don't have to leave it in your locker during class and your pet keeps dying over and over from too much poop?

CmdrShepard,

Yeah it doesn't seem like an age cutoff so much as a generational cutoff. People born in the 1950s obviously didn't grow up with arcades and consoles, so few of them would pick up the hobby later in life. Someone born in the mid 1970s like OP would be coming of age right as consoles and PC gaming were hitting the scene so more of that generation would have gamed as kids but still not an overwhelming amount like kids today.

As far as OPs date's go, they're probably just envisioning the stereotypical guy who is addicted to gaming and ignores other responsibilities even though that doesn't seem to be the case. Perhaps he should frame it in a different way like pointing out how he bonds with his kids over them if it's an issue or just ignore it all together. My wife and I are late 30s and she doesn't play games outside of a small amount Animal Crossing but she doesn't care that I enjoy them and I have no plans on quitting as I get older.

CmdrShepard,

I can relate to this as I've also cut down on gaming quite a bit after frustration with shit like COD season passes and having to rank up in the season to unlock loot but not having the time or desire to grind through them. I've pretty much quit playing FPS all together even though that was my main jam 10 years ago. Now I focus on single player stuff like Horizon and Elden Ring so I can play at my own pace rather than investing so much time worrying about missing out on useless digital skins and weapons. I'll also play Minecraft and Lego games with my daughter and have a ton of fun with those too.

The industry has definitely changed overall but with the number of games coming out, you're not locked in to falling into their trap of grind fests and can pick other titles.

CmdrShepard,

I think he is trying to fuck 'em and that's where the issue arises.

CmdrShepard,

Call me a cynic but I'd be afraid any rebooted favorite game of mine would be little more than a nostalgia cash grab in the current gaming economy and probably sour my memory of the original.

CmdrShepard,

Just tried this game and my first word was "prweb". I'm not convinced this isn't coded to just give out a random combination of letters.
