i’ve been an android user for years now and have been using beeper for at least a couple of months. people have been asking for imessage on android for years now and i really don’t know what the issue is. i can understand apple being wary of beeper accessing the imessage server but if they would do it themselves then there wouldn’t be this issue

Silent Hill and Metal Gear Solid make very, very good use of PS1 hardware and the stylistic choices just enhance that. The abstract textures of silent hill make everything look fleshy or rusty. MGS has that cool shadowy look which is perfect for sneaking.

Not counting games that were unfun because of bugs, what’s the most unfun video game that you’ve played and what made it unfun?

Most of the video games I’ve played were pretty good. The only one I can think of that I didn’t like was MySims Kingdom for the Nintendo DS. Dropped that pretty quickly. It was a long while ago, but I’ll guess it was because there were too many fetch quests and annoying controls.

i’m trying desperately hard to like Haunting Ground for the PS2 (i’m a big horror game fan) but keep being interrupted from puzzles and exploration by each of the ‘stalker’ enemies. for context, they can’t be killed or gotten rid of permanently, you can only run and hide. it’s a shame because otherwise it’s a very fun and unique game.

Google Gmail continuously nagging to enable Enhanced Safe Browsing (www.bleepingcomputer.com)

The difference between the two security features is that Safe Browsing will compare a visited site to a locally stored list of domains, compared to Enhanced Safe Browser, which will check if a site is malicious in real-time against Google’s cloud services....

is there really anything that can be salvaged from this disaster?

Paralives looks more polished but competition is always a good thing. maybe one day one of these games will replace my sims 2 addiction lol

i like spooky games so every so often i’ll rewatch supergreatfriend’s ILLBLEED let’s play. audio quality is dubious but the game itself is ridiculous and sgf plays it very well.

Duchess,
@Duchess@yiffit.net avatar

yeah i haven’t watched his recent stuff but i’ve been a fan since the first demo friend episodes, it was the deadly premonition lp that really sold me though. i’ll also sometimes rewatch the life and times of bully demise to appreciate the craft of the storytelling lol

What type of game do you want to play that doesn't really exist?

Have you ever played a game and wondered what if you could do something that it doesn’t really allow you to do, for example being able to move around blocks in Minecraft fluidly instead of in sectors, edit the world in Hogwarts legacy with spells, be able to fly in a world like Elden Ring or Elder Scrolls with epic sky...

i desperately want a survival horror or walking sim set in the trenches of world war 1 with as close to 100% historical accuracy as possible.

Duchess,
@Duchess@yiffit.net avatar

That sounds fantastic! Do you know the name?

thanks for the link! it’s not quite the full experience i was looking for but it’s a step in the right direction and something i certainly hadn’t heard of before.

i’ve had a friend recommend amnesia: the bunker too, i need to put it on my wishlist.

What is the best place to get to know more about the game without getting completely spoiled?

There are moments when I do not wish to continue playing a game but still wish to learn about the game and the things that happened in it so far. Sometimes the story becomes too confusing or I forget that one in-game tip that is needed to beat the game, which is when I am forced to research on that topic else the rest of my...

usually i find if you just avoid the ‘plot’ section on wikipedia then you’ll be fine

Duchess,
@Duchess@yiffit.net avatar

not sure whether it counts but the ending to lisa the painful fucks me up to this day. the whole game is full of moments like it but the ending hits hardest

Pet peeve of the day: Games with "puzzles" that can only be solved by trying a bunch of different plausible answers.

If you know the right answer (but not that it is the right answer), and the reasoning behind the right answer, but you still can't tell that it's the right answer without engaging the games mechanic to check if it's the right answer, it's not a puzzle. It's just a game a brute forcing answers.

Duchess,
@Duchess@yiffit.net avatar

Yeah a puzzle where the majority of players resort to trial and error is not a well designed one.

Found a copy of Stray hiding on an external hard drive so I’ve been working through that. I love hanging out with my new robot friends!

i have a very specific genre of games that i absolutely adore and i’d suggest anyone interested take a look at them asap. the genre is japanese ps2 horror games, with standout titles being silent hill, fatal frame, haunting ground, rule of rose, and siren

Duchess,

Fatal frame is kind of hit and miss for me personally, but it’s definitely a well treasured part of the ps2 j-horror genre
