original_reader,

Why would anyone buy prepacked sandwiches anyway? They’re expensive and you obviously never know what you get.

What’s the issue with buying some bread and preparing some at home? Cheaper, healthier and really doesn’t cost much time at all. Plus, this doesn’t use as much plastic.

original_reader,

Thank you. I feel like I’ve found a new way to respect developers that I hadn’t considered before.

there are limits

I am glad you have a moral centre.

But that is the capitalist way. A Redditor once wrote: “*Corporations have no morals, no ethics, no code of conduct, no feelings, no empathy, and zero accountability. They have one goal and one goal only: to increase profits at all costs.”

Case in point: the climate crisis. Corporations are literally destroying their own home for a symbol of success that, like their products, is man-made: money. It is the ultimate pursuit of vanity.

Crazy, if you think about it for a moment.

What’s the problem with just producing the necessary quality and being honest? Is that too expensive, making the lie more profitable?

How easy is it to switch back to windows?

I’m considering switching to linux but I’m not a computer savvy person, so I wanted to have the option to switch back to windows if unforeseen complications (I only have 1 pc). Is it just a download on usb and install? And what ways can I get the product key or “cleaner” debloated versions.

original_reader,

Recent iterations of Windows have been easy to install, esp. when using an entire drive. I (almost) never had issues.

original_reader,

So the ad wants me to follow the example of a man leaving his wife and children crying in despair?

original_reader,

You are right on all counts.

Just not sure if “easy” is the operative word here.

original_reader,

A backup and restore utility which allows me to export/restore system settings and installed apps. This would make a reinstalll much less time consuming and allow installs of the same configuration on other computers.

original_reader,

Didn’t know about that one. Why, there’s no objection in adding more to the collection right here. 😊

original_reader,

Digital “ownership”.

Ubisoft is determined to take things one step further to stamp out any attempts to continue playing it past its expiry date.

original_reader,

It’s not about this particular game.

It’s about setting a precedent for games you do care about.

original_reader,

Blaming the player goes a bit far, true.

That said, the sad truth is that companies only react when it affects their bottom line.

original_reader,

Not in this case, seeing that progress is stored online.

Who says that the game you care about tomorrow won’t do this next? Why be against an action/not care about something that can only benefit players now and in the long term?

original_reader,

We don’t care if you have fun. You already paid for it.

original_reader,

It’s almost as if companies have gone a bit overboard with advertising. Huh. Didn’t see that coming…

original_reader,

To save you all a click and some time: the source says that the report is bogus.

A RULE SPY'S IN THE BASE?! (lemmy.blahaj.zone)

I searched up “Lemmy” on the PlayStore and noticed that Reddit appears right before the last lemmy client in that search X3 do u guys know if there r any other lemmy clients worth trying? I randomly felt like trying all I could find and for now I’ll stay on Jerboa and the Web UI but I use Voyager too now, mainly for DMs...

original_reader,

The Raccoon logo is awesome. 😎

Downloading now just because of that.

original_reader,

This is my first post with Raccoon. Sleek little thing. 👽

Will testdrive it for a while.

original_reader, (edited )

No, feels quite snappy, although my phone isn’t the most recent at all.

Somehow it doesn’t keep me logged in, though. It is under active development, so I will see.

Really like the layout. Wish the threaded view were a bit clearer, maybe. Bit that’s no big deal.

Is there a (Lemmy) community for that app?

There is a Lemmy community here:

!raccoonforlemmy

original_reader,

I am partial to Neo Store. Got used to it and now I’m hooked.

original_reader, (edited )

Can’t say I agree.

That said, this probably isn’t true if someone is transitioning from Photoshop, which is probably the context of this discussion. I have seen people who start with Gimp without knowing Photoshop and they got into it fairly quick.

Using Gimp and expecting the same logic and structure as Photoshop will indeed lead to initial difficulties.

I don’t want to get into a war here. Am sure there’s things more complicated in Gimp than PS, but also vice versa.

Either way, I know a number of people who do stunning work with Gimp in little time.

original_reader,

Ah, yes.

Sorry. I deleted my comment. Misread and thought this was about Gimp itself.

original_reader,

Again, only in the US.

Nevertheless, the right to remain silent is protected in many countries. Deciding whether to use it on the other hand, is not always easy.

original_reader,

Read again, friend. That’s exactly why I asked the question.

original_reader,

So essentially it’s a 100% price increase.

original_reader,

I’ll open with Homeworld’s destruction of Kharak.

I felt so many emotions simultaneously when I first saw this. It motivated me right down to the final mission. Up to today this is one of my pivotal gaming moments.

“The subject did not survive the interrogation.”

original_reader,

“Neptune One rocket… online.”

"“What is a wave without the ocean ? A beginning without an end ? They are different, but they go together. Now you go among the stars, and I fall among the sand. We are different. But we go…together.”

Goosebumps. Thank you, Subnautica!
