How many millions of votes did Bernie lose the primary to Clinton by? Five?

I remember turning out for him, only to find reality drowned out by the online noise (read: misogyny) that still reverberates to this day. At the polling places? Crickets. The American public reaped what it sowed, and watching these conspiracy artists attempt to re-write history is little more than them climbing back into the hamster wheel. Vote.

Remote desktop for Wayland?

I only just switched to Linux last month that time I don’t know what Wayland or X11 is and I just use Linux like normal without knowing I’m using Wayland (KDE), now since I’m already configured my KDE desktop on Wayland and I don’t wanna do it again, so I’m looking for a remote desktop that work under Wayland not...

Sunshine/Moonlight works well for me also.

Any suggestions for cheap but decent laptops for coding?

I’m currently learning how to code (currently Python, then maybe JavaScript), but I’m not always around my desktop, and learning on my phone is not always an option (also, it can be quite cumbersome at times). Therefore, I’m looking into purchasing a laptop just for learning how to code and stuff....

I have an 8 year old Acer aspire and it works great for coding. I’ve learned a lot about both of those languages with zero worries and recently moved the OS over to nix with excellent results.

A Polling Risk for Trump (www.nytimes.com)

The polls have shown Donald Trump with an edge for eight straight months, but there’s a sign his advantage might not be quite as stable as it looks: His lead is built on gains among voters who aren’t paying close attention to politics, who don’t follow traditional news and who don’t regularly vote....

Interjecting to add my two pennies. Gen z isn’t as consequential here as millennials, (not that they answer unknown numbers.) Young people simply don’t vote.

Edit: For the record I’m a xennial and don’t answer those calls either.

Providing this statement is hardly doubling down and if anything moves in the other direction. Hiring a legit firm with a reputation of its own to defend is by all accounts the right thing to do, particularly after all the other fumbles that took place. Was waiting for an investigatory body to come along and do the legwork for free the more sensible option? No one was silenced here, and these allegations were made without proof. I tend to believe others, but this cuts both ways.

I’d say that laying your own experiences out as germane is gross, but then I do appreciate those strong biases being highlighted. For my own part I’d have rather not defended a media outlet that I do not care for.

Huh, I just happened to watch this interview/distillation last night during a break and found it very enlightening. Kudos to an incredible team.

People hereabouts know agitprop when they see it and use the voting system to reflect that.

First Look: Riven Gameplay Reveal (youtu.be)

As an older, and increasingly jaded gamer, I’m having a hard time remembering when I’ve last been so excited over a release as this one. Riven is seemingly getting the gold-standard treatment with a ground-up remake that not only utilizes 3D (and VR) to give depth to the world but also adds new content while keeping the...

Remember Trump trashing his wife and father during the primary a few cycles ago and Ted working the phone bank after being thrashed?
Ted Cruz tearing up while working a phone with Trump/Pence signage on the wall.

Not an attorney myself but also didn’t see you wrestle with the mention of MANDAMUS in the brief. Discuss.

Hominine, (edited )
@Hominine@lemmy.world avatar

You’re very welcome, glad to share the gospel according to Harry. Also thanks for banging out that killer summary, I should have done that myself but excuse excuse.

Hominine,
@Hominine@lemmy.world avatar

From my view, it is perfectly reasonable to be skeptical of any one take, even from someone as well credentialed as Harry.
To that point, one bugbear I am wary of is the inherent cover that lawyerly types tend to give to the Justice system writ large: namely, that it can self-police and correct for biases or bad actors. No legal source I’ve followed has yet to grapple with this blind spot specifically.
Which is to say, I’m right there beside you in being hesitant to overinvest in any one outcome.

With that, I’ll throw one more resource at you, and that is the Serious Trouble podcast. The cadence from this crew is much slower, but they bring a fair bit of levity to the table alongside some deep perspective from the angle of defense, and so I look forward to each episode. My hope is they will dive into a discussion around mandamus also, as I am just as flummoxed as you when it comes to understanding specifics.

Have a good one, and thanks again for the thoughtful conversation.

It’s almost as if my point was the laziness of a broad brush and the inability to have a conversation without falling back to antics deserving of the playground.

Hominine,
@Hominine@lemmy.world avatar

The worst parts of Lemmy show up when one doesn’t fall lockstep into whatever flavor of far-left naviete is being pushed down-thread.

I don’t agree with everything you posted above but the name calling you were handed in response to an attempt at earnest conversation is an excellent window into the grade school maturity of those very elements.

Hominine,
@Hominine@lemmy.world avatar

Subtext is hard, but I do believe you can learn to find it.

Hominine,

I grew up in a conservative stronghold and still live adjacent to several of them. Separating ideas from people is a maturing point and one that I hope you and your detractors aspire to.

The attribution in this space is off the charts.

Hominine,
@Hominine@lemmy.world avatar

Oh no, please don’t hit me with your broad brush of righteousness and name calling… Whatever will I do?

Hominine,
@Hominine@lemmy.world avatar

Every accusation is a confession, no?

Hominine,
@Hominine@lemmy.world avatar

…I replied below the name-calling. Clever, right?

Now you only need to identify the purported false equivalency to match suit.

Hominine,
@Hominine@lemmy.world avatar

Exactly, who needs evidence or to actually grapple with the beliefs of others when you can just blithely throw labels about?

Hominine,
@Hominine@lemmy.world avatar

Yay, more live-service microtransaction bullshit to avoid.

As a linux user, do you know about/use openwrt?

I have many nerdy friends who have been Linux users for ages. But most of them don’t know such a thing as Openwrt exists or have never bothered to give it a try. It’s a very fun piece of software to play with and can be extremely useful for routing traffic. Wondering why it isn’t more popular/widely used.

Hominine,
@Hominine@lemmy.world avatar

As a seven-plus year Linux vet I’ve known about OpenWRT for some time but only made the switch about 3 months or so myself to breathe some life into an aging Linksys.

I’m very impressed with the kit so far, it runs well (snappy even) and the amount of options provided are a bit overwhelming at first. Eventually I’ll move on to prosumer hardware, but this is a nice middle ground in the interim.

Hominine,
@Hominine@lemmy.world avatar

From a review:

The explorers camping kit is probably the most egregious of the “DLC” So to explain, as you and your pawns battle you take damage, take enough damage and there is a portion of your HP you can’t recover with magic or items. So you’ll either have to go rest at an inn or find a bonfire to set up camp. To make camp you’ll need the camping supplies item, the ones I have found so far are very heavy in weight, which means your party won’t have much space for loot. The explorers camping kit DLC will give you 1 camping supply and make the “explorers camping kit” available to purchase within the in-game shops, and it will be much lighter in weight than the normal camping supplies. Capcom have purposely made the experience far more tedious than it need be in their fully priced AAA game so we would spend the extra money on their quality of life DLC.

Fuck this game.
