Maeve,

Very much like "the captain" in The Handmaid's Tale (book version, never saw the tv version).

Maeve,

Anarchists I know very much consider how many could be hurt.

Maeve,

I live in the Deep South, and that's been my experience with the (precious few) anarchists and socialists, for that matter, that I've met, as well.

Maeve,

I don't currently have transportation and will be heavily occupied for several months. That said, I have attended events and spoken with Food Not Bombs people, and they are amazing, really good people. I had traveled a state north to do it, though, and if my plans pan out, I intend to find and work with them (in general, not necessarily the exact same people) in the future. Working with Atlanteans are quite possible, I won't discount them but in general hope to travel northwards a bit. But who knows what tomorrow holds, I could well end up in Georgia.

Maeve, (edited )

I'm old enough to (barely) remember Nixon (not nearly was old enough to vote), and I vomit in my mouth a little, whenever I recall he ever made it to vice* presidency, let alone president.

Maeve,

The Handmaid's Tale is upon us. It's available free to listen online.

Maeve,

That's why the US is suing them (locking people to Apple devices).

Maeve,

I loathe phonelink so much, after trying to use it for a week.

Maeve,

May it be so much better.

U.S. Sues Apple, Accusing It of Maintaining an iPhone Monopoly (www.nytimes.com)

The department joined 16 states and the District of Columbia to file a significant challenge to the reach and influence of Apple, arguing in an 88-page lawsuit that the company had violated antitrust laws with practices that were intended to keep customers reliant on their iPhones and less likely to switch to a competing device....

Maeve,

Yep. I'm in that situation now because my iPhone is about to be obsolete, so replacing the battery makes no sense.

Maeve,

Or they just work for the same bosses to give us the illusion of choice.

Republican women don't care about rape victims: Forget the theatrics of Katie Britt, Nancy Mace and Marjorie Taylor Greene — supporting Trump means backing abusers (www.salon.com)

It can be confusing, tracking the multiple lawsuits journalist E. Jean Carroll filed against Donald Trump, who sexually abused her in the 90s and then lied about it. This is no doubt why U.S. District Court Judge Lewis Kaplan wrote a brief that bluntly laid out the main takeaway: Trump raped Carroll, as the word “rape” is...

Maeve,

I point out we keep going right by compromising with the establishment party nominee and we need to vote third party but everyone in threads where I've done *this act like I'm Satan and say "THIS IS THE ELECTION WHERE THE DEMOCRAT VOTE IS MOST IMPORTANT! IT'S NOT THE TIME! A THIRD PARTY CAN'T WIN!" for nearly thirty years (I was a meeting who backed Clinton. I'm reformed).

Edited word

Maeve,

Ahh, "hate the have, not the player!"

When there are no players, there is no game. Thanks for proving my point.

Maeve,

I hear you. I need to let this soak in.

Maeve,

Holy moly, this sounds hauntingly familiar.

Maeve,

Yes, Jeff Epstein definitely echos here.

Maeve,

Yes, in the USA, Goodyear Tires and GM (I believe they were the ones leading the initiative) lobbied against trollies and buses and other public transit so they could make more money seeking their products

Maeve,
Maeve,

From what I've read, and it's been a while), engineers plan for safety, but project managers and other company execs convince clients to take "cost-effective" corner cuts, leading to disaster. Looking at companies like Duke, Fluor, Dominion.

Maeve,

My point is that it's not cost effective, in human, environmental damages, but the cost of "clean up" alone negates any savings fun* not doing it right from the jump.

Autocorrect but leaving it.

Maeve,

My family and most people I know are poor, and this is also how they function. Even the "side" pieces.

Maeve,

Was thinking as I read the prior comment, "working handlers."

The Feds Are Coming for “Extremist” Gamers (theintercept.com)

Gaming companies are coordinating with the FBI and Department of Homeland Security to root out so-called domestic violent extremist content, according to a new government report. Noting that mechanisms have been established with social media companies to police extremism, the report recommends that the national security agencies...

Maeve,

Also Sleepy Joe and over-caffeinated.

Maeve,

The saddest part for them is, I've read about studies that say a better-educated populace is a more compassionate populace. Guess who will care for them when they are too old to care for themselves?

Maeve,

Palestinian DNA is semitic DNA. I know the word had been co-opted and misappropriated, so I feel pointing this out is necessary.

U.N. report: ‘Convincing’ information Hamas raped, tortured hostages (www.washingtonpost.com)

A team of United Nations experts tasked with gathering information on sexual violence linked to Hamas’s Oct. 7 attacks on Israel found “reasonable grounds to believe” that some victims were sexually assaulted, including rape and gang rape, according to a U.N. report released Monday....

Maeve,

Oh Jesus. Let me delete my last comment.

Maeve,

This is how Hezbollah, Da'esh, Al Qiaeda, Taliban happen.

Maeve,

I have so many words and they all fail. We are devolving.

Maeve,

hebrews 5:14

But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

Maeve,

Good dog ngl

Maeve,

Plus it actually could be used to do something* crazy, like help people or the environment.

  • Autocorrect awesome sauce
Maeve,

Iirc DoD... Yeah, never passed an audit

Maeve,

Just like anything else that started good and had more pure intentions than "money at all costs!"

Maeve,

I was just thinking that meme perfectly illustrates the idea of reincarnation, though. Probably better than the [laughing and crying goat] (https://blogs.ed.ac.uk/teachingbuddhism/2020/06/03/the-goat-who-laughs-and-weeps/) parable.

Maeve,

Of course.

Maeve,

Yes, please, would you share that video? It sounds as fascinating as your reply is delightful!

Maeve,

Interesting. More information needed, before commenting. It may take some while of learning

Maeve,

That was interesting and fun, thanks. And also sad, it made me think of Aaron Schwartz. And sus, maybe because I'm too attracted to some common knowledge. ;-)

Thank you so much for taking the time and trouble.

Maeve,

Hi, since you live there, would you please be willing to mention what you think this politician gets right, wrong and is mediocre about? I ask because of the user who claims you don't know what an authoritarian demagogue is.

Thanking you in advance, regardless of your decision.

Maeve,

I don't think he is. I don't think he isn't. I asked you for your perspective since you live there and felt strongly enough to post what you did. I guess whatever any outsiders think is of no consequence, since outsiders have no right to form any opinion on whatever happens to your country or people, since outsiders obviously have no influence on what they're governments do or what narratives we accept or reject.

Maeve,

What? I never did anything of the sort, mate*. Please check user names on comments.

Edited for autocorrect

Maeve,

Sweet enough to be! I’m not sure of the etymology, it’s kind of a cross between (sweet) potato pie, casserole and custard. Some variations have marshmallows but I won’t eat that, others have shredded coconut, this one coconut milk? Idk a hint of the flavor, with a toasted praline crust.
