I’m surprised they confirmed the PS5 in the trailer. Usually if a console is hosting the reveal trailer, they keep that ambiguous, but just won’t put exclusive.
Also, that would have been a huge deal about a year ago when everyone assumed these unrevealed games would be xbox exclusive.
I literally saw Animal Well for the first time on the sale page on PSN just before it launched. I thought about buying it because it looked good.
Meanwhile, I saw a ridiculous amount of hype for XVI every time news or a trailer dropped for it. The demo convinced me to pick it up, and I’m so glad I did. It sucks because it’s the first mainline single player game since XII (or maybe X) that lives up to the brand.
Seems more like someone taking a picture of the food, and then leaving without trying it. They still appreciate the food, just not the part that makes it great.
I’ve been playing through all the numbered games and its been great. I could write an essay or two on any of them. In general I’m only including base games and no expansions or DLC so it wouldn’t be a huge undertaking to beat 11, but I’m trying to see if it’s worth it from others who have done the marathon....
It’s definitely among the best and most powerful narratives I’ve played through. Up there with Last of Us 1 and 2 (although I’d put it solidly 3rd, behind those two).
The best controller I arguably thing is the 360 controller. It just feels right to use in fighting games and fps. I like xboxs layout with the analog sticks....
There are a lot of console exclusives that I like. I think an argument can be made that companies like Sony and Microsoft can add funding and support to make games better, sacrificing profits for console value.
With Xbox failing for another console, putting out half-baked products, and buying IPs instead of creating new ones, I’m worried that Sony will just start maximizing profits.
As most of you know, HL3 is pretty much the most popular “vaporware” game out there. Something always rumored and in development, but never heard again after a certain point....

What kinds of games might you recommend with deep worldbuilding and interaction that aren't RPGs?
I like worldbuilding and stories, and I like when they're mixed with the interactivity of games, so RPGs seem like they should be a natural fit. Problem is, I dislike the stat-heavy, grindy progression of many RPGs.
I enjoy point & click adventures and visual novels but they're often more limited in their interactions. What kinds of game might I be missing combining the two?
I agree. Hell, older games could be put on digital stores right now. The PS3 had a ton of PS1 emulated classics, and even then there were a bunch left off for unknown (or licensing) reason.
I’m a long-term fan. This game brought back a lot of good will for me. Between Dissidia NT, FFVII, and FFXV I was losing a lot of interest in the future of Final Fantasy. I’m glad they could strike some kind of balance with younger fans too.
The Eikon abilities get more expansive as you go on. Eventually, most of my combat was using the abilities as they charged, which kind of made it more turn based oddly enough.
I don’t know which ones you reached, but the first Eikon’s ability set was the worst in my opinion. Although I thought it was a good introductory set.
You asked why it attracts them. Which is escapism. Not everyone looks for escapism for the same reason. And it explains why GTA VI has so much outrage around it.

The memory sticks for downloading games. I think the biggest was a 64 GB one that was like $200. But this was well after micro SD cards became super cheap and games were bigger than they were on the PSP.
A newly released game industry report by market researcher Newzoo shows that while the PC and console market grew 2.6 percent in 2023, overall playtime decreased as gamers spent more and more time in a smaller list of old games like https://kotaku.com/fornite-og-map-season-chapter-4-update-1850990645* *and League of Legends.
Ignoring the lack of updates if the game is buggy, games back then were also more focused on quality and make gamers replay the game with unlockable features based on skills, not money. I can’t count the number of times I played Metal Gear Solid games over and over to unlock new features playing the hardest difficulty and with...
Actually, OP very explicitly said to ignore bugs and was only talking about gameplay. Which is why they talk about extreme replayability being the requirement on old games.
I just realized you were talking about who i responded to, not OP. But still, they weren’t only talking about bugginess.
The basic mechanics of a game (eg. Mario) better be fun, and those first couple of levels better be fun, because that’s what you’ll be doing a lot. It’s similar to how the swinging in Spider-Man better be fun because you’ll be doing it a lot. But the it also has more complex fighting, side content, and a story. You can mess up a lot more while there’s still enough to keep it entertaining.
But people don’t remember the majority of games that were not very good. World Games was just a game that came to mind on the NES as being not very fun, but more importantly forgotten.
I have never heard anyone talk about that game, ever. But I remembered hating it as a kid. But social media wasn’t a thing back then. So I don’t know if it was talked about elsewhere.
If that was a well received game, I guess it speaks volumes about the rest of the NES library.
I’m finally getting into Stranger of Paradise: Final Fantasy Origins. I had a blast with the demo with friends but didn’t play through the full game until now.
Leaving Midgar is barely the beginning of disc 1 of the original game. Cosmo Canyon, the Gold Saucer, Corel Prison, Rocket Town and a lot more are all disc 1.
That’s what I had heard. I would have gotten one for a reasonable price. Or if it had PSP/Vita capabilities baked in. I ended up just getting a backbone for my phone and using remote play instead.
When I was kid, I could sit in front of TV for hours and sink a day or two away into a game and have no problem having to start the game over from the beginning. Time meant nothing to me and I wasted it like it was a near infinite resource....
One complaint I’ve heard about Rogue Legacy is how the cost of stat progression increases. To the point that, for some, they find it difficult to make enough during a run to get upgrades.
The problem is that they tried to rely on increasing their stats to get better. Instead they should have tried the more difficult challenges and just gotten better.
I realized after starting a new game just how much better I was than the first time I played.
