SolarPunker,

Try Bazzite.

SolarPunker,

How? It’s pretty solid on my PC. Breaking an immutable distribution isn’t so easy, also Bazzite has a pretty easy install procedure.

How to install Nix on Fedora Silverblue (julianhofer.eu)

Today, I wanted to have another go with nix. Previously I just read about it and didn’t do anything for a couple of months. Now, I installed nix package manager with very few lines of code and two more to install many packages as described in his post. Installation was very fast on my banana laptop. Until now I used distrobox...

SolarPunker,

Bazzite user here and I’m using flatpaks whenever possible and distrobox for everything else; which are the benefits of Nix over these?

SolarPunker,

World be nice to have something like gpt4all on mobile.

SolarPunker,

Yeah I’m recently discovered the new DuckDuckGo AI feature with both and they are pretty good!

SolarPunker,

Do you know any equally easy alternatives?

SolarPunker,

Sorry for what? I’m trying a fresh install of Bazzite so the distro prefers flatpaks.

SolarPunker,

Anything else works fine, the only other problem I’ve noticed is that some GTK applications don’t respect the KDE Plasma theme (in my case only Quod Libet).

SolarPunker,

If it is due to an inefficiency of Firefox it seems strange to me that no fork has solved the problem, other browsers like Brave work perfectly.

SolarPunker,

The only “Firefox” not presenting this start issue for me is Floorp but it’s proprietary.

SolarPunker,

My only extension is uBlock Origin but it isn’t the problem (I uninstalled it to test and nothing changed). Thanks for your suggestion, I’ll try to play with distrobox (I’m new to Bazzite and immutable distros).

SolarPunker,

Oh I forgot about rpm-ostree ty! In this case of flatpak not working it is suggested rpm-ostree or distrobox?

SolarPunker,

Oh thx for the info, I can maybe try with rpm-ostree in the case of lag. Nix is very good but I’m liking Bazzite very much for my needs, everything else seems working very good.

SolarPunker,

In fact I hadn’t thought about it, I always tried Nix as a separate distribution.

SolarPunker,

Thank you!

SolarPunker,

Ok I’m writing this thru Firefox (distrobox) and it works pretty well, no lag noticed.

SolarPunker,

Are there any processes in particular that I should keep an eye on? At the moment I don’t notice any new particularly high load.

SolarPunker,

I’ve “solved” using distrobox, it work pretty well and I don’t see any lag. Bazzite is a very good distro imho, the problem is more on Firefox here.

SolarPunker,

Ok, I’ve tested this, I’ve noticed a lag of a couple of seconds for the first time I launched a distroboxed app.

SolarPunker,

What is it? I’m on Bazzite.

SolarPunker,

Bazzite should have wayland by default

SolarPunker,

Nothing special, I don’t think that’s the problem since the lag is at every launch and it takes something like a minute to appear.

SolarPunker,

If that’s the issue, why it doesn’t happen with all other flatpaks?

raw.githubusercontent.com/…/LICENSE

I’m not sure, Wikipedia says partially

SolarPunker,

I’m on a fresh install. I experienced this with Firefox, LibreWolf and Waterfox.

SolarPunker,

Starting with Ubuntu I’ve tried a lot of distro, here the ones I used the more: Mageia -> Chakra -> Manjaro -> Void -> Arch

SolarPunker,

QuodLibet: I’m waiting for Amarok 3 to be ported but right now this is the best music collector/player in my experience.

SolarPunker, (edited )

Yes, I’ve tried pretty much everything. Strawberry is pretty good but it doesn’t have a grid view for albums, it also shows the contents in a way that is not very intuitive imo (I want albums in publication order with original release date). I sincerely expect something new from the next Amarok in terms of intuitiveness of use, I hope the good man who is bringing it back wants to innovate something in this sense.

SolarPunker,

Ardour is the most complete and professional DAW in my experience, Zrythm looks promising.

Decision of Next Os

I was Nobara user, then I am using Fedora right now. I want to use things like Hyprland etc. and ya know, Its damn cool to say I am using arch btw. So I’ve decided to use Arch Linux. But everyone says its always breaking and gives problems. That’s because of users, not OS… right? I love to deal with problems but I don’t...

SolarPunker,

Arch user here. If you’d like to improve your skills and maintain your perfectly fitted distro Arch is a great pick, if you want something that just works forver without learning stuff, try something else; I also don’t recomend Arch-based distros for non-Arch user (manjaro, endeavour) since you’ll break these soon or later. Would be nice instead waiting for a good immutable Arch-based distro. Atomic desktops go brrr

SolarPunker,

Can I sort albums by original date?

SolarPunker,

Sadly looks like you can’t sort albums by original date (y:mm:dd)

Standard notes: what about don’t put all your eggs in one basket rule?

If the owner of the standard notes will now be a proton, doesn’t that contradict this principle? I have a proton email account but I don’t want it linked to my standard notes account. I don’t strongly trust companies that offer packaged services like google or Microsoft. I prefer to have one service from one company. I am...

SolarPunker,

Syncthing + your text editor (orgzly revived is great)

SolarPunker,

A simple text editor does the job on PC, I use kate (kde) but perhaps a markdown editor might be better.

Notetaking app that looks too good to be true? - Siyuan

Recently stumbled upon this note-taking app called SiYuan, but it honestly looks a bit too good to be true(?). Has anyone here used it or got any experience with it? Trying to replace Obsidian is a difficult task, and I’ve been through almost all note-taking apps there are out there, however this one looks fairly similar....

SolarPunker,

I still have to find something better than Orgzly Revived

SolarPunker,

There’s a desktop app: simplex.chat/downloads/-app

SolarPunker,

Thanks for this report.

SolarPunker,

Exactly what I thought; if the technology is so decentralized does it make sense to care so much about who finances the project? Like if one instance of lemmy was funded by Microsoft, we could easily use another one and block it, right?

SolarPunker,

I’m imagine your granpa with f-droid and simpleXchat, fuckyeah you are a genious

SolarPunker,

SimpleXchat is the goat
