That’s what the heavy mortar gun was all about : let the scout zoom around the map pointing targets for you to destroy, hidden behind a hill from the other side of the map. Such memories! :)
I wanted to, because I really was so impressed with The Witcher 3 and had gotten it for cheap. So wanted to pay back. But then I remembered the rule. I still really wanted to reward them, so I’ll probably buy Phantom Liberty full price or something.
Please somebody, anyone, tell me you also keep reading it as “Rogue Princess of Persia” ! I can’t figure out why, but it keeps happening every single time I see the name in articles!
Well, it’s Far Cry with all the best bits of gameplay, better traversal (still no free climbing a la Assassin’s Creed, but the wall jumping is fantastic), with absolutely amazing graphics, as expected. So, yeah, nothing revolutionary, a bit boring system-wise, but solid fun all around so far.
If you are talking about the Berlin definition, that was decided by the roguelike dev community for their own use in discussions.
The more points of the definition, the more roguelike. Roguelites are games with fewer of the criteria fulfilled.
It’s really not a matter of gatekeeping and more a question of having a definition to stop endless discussions in the roguelikedev community on that same subject.
By now, everyone in the world knows that American tipping culture is getting out of hand. That doesn’t mean you can’t introduce another way of “supporting” creators. Mike Ybarra, the former president of Blizzard, shared his desire to tip developers of especially enjoyable games....
Last time I actually wanted to give money to creators was The Witcher series after finishing 3. It was so mind blowing. And I still had two DLC to play (still not played B&W). And I did not pay full price, because by the time I had finished 2, the third was regularly on sale.
But then I remembered they already are choke full of money and my extra money isn’t gonna go to the devs doing crunch time, it’ll just be more money in their money pool. So I thought, this time, I’ll pre-purchased CP2077 because I absolutely loved the rpg as a teen and they can’t fick that up. But then of course I remembered not to be an idiot. So I waited for a day one full price purchase but well, they fucked that up, didn’t they. And they still made money hand over fist!
What I’m saying is, he can go eat a full bag of dicks. I’ll keep voting with my wallet. And that means good games get my money, good devs also get my money, and that means he’s never gonna get a dime from me, ever again.
What a muppet.
You know who I would actually like to tip? JAV actresses I have wanked to for donkey years without ever purchasing one of their DVDs. I reckon most of those ladies work harder that this twat and deserve more love. And money. But like Gaben said, verily, it’s all a question of access.
Right. The problem is they never want this to be possible because there is mtx involved.
And presumably they don’t want anyone to get anywhere near being able to mess worth that shit.
Perhaps if they made their mtx code completely isolated from the rest, it might be possible, but that would be the first time I hear of a bigass company having a clear modular isolated codebase. Would be nice though.
Same here. I’m lucky that I have some good friends who work in it, but every time there has been something remotely interesting, the difference in salary with boring dev jobs has been just too fucking much :/
I’m amazed, time and time again, at just how incredibly stupid HR decisions can be. It’s like they have no idea what people do and how difficult how that shit is, and then each company has its own idiosyncrasies, in processes, in frameworks, engines, languages, etc. I’m not even in gaming, and I see it every day, with candidates being taken onboard against the teams’ advice, then being unable to do the most simple tasks in their jobs. It’s terrifying, really. It’s like HR have a vague sense that we do stuff with computers and we cost X per annum and that’s about as far as it goes in their little brains…
Every time I’ve been tempted (I’ve a few mates working for Ubisoft), I look at the salaries and compare to what I make working for banks and, well, I’m a an mercenary kind of guy.
Fair enough. I see the thread is definitely controversial, and with the salty ones coming out the woodwork, it’s hard to tell what’s what. To be fair, it was a bit fanboyish. I probably deserved that :P Still think he’s a good journo, even if I don’t agree with everything he writes. We need more like him and less like Kotaku.
Nintendo is not ready for the Mario cast naked mods. They most likely never will. I’m surprised there is even any Nintendo IP hentai floating around at all, really.
Can’t say I blame them for that, really.
A friend of mine was a gamer many years ago but hasn’t been gaming in a while. They run a Mac and I run a PC. What are some good patient games we can play together?
One of the main problems with BL1 and 2 in multiplayer was that level disparity really sucked. If a mate had like a few levels more or less than you, that was it. So you needed to have a strictly MP character and a separate for single player, otherwise someone was having no fun.
Did they fix that for 3? Somehow, I doubt it.
I have definitely enjoyed their tactic of doing smaller Far Cry games to test out new ideas, both with settings and game systems. It’s very incremental and nothing too crazy, at least for the game systems, but it is nice to see.
On the other hand this experimentation comes around a solid core of what I like to call the Übigame, with a huge expansive map choke full of points of interest, strong points to take over, larger zones to unlock through story beats, and great traversal options through it all, etc. I don’t see much difference between the Far Cry, the AC series, revent Ghost Recon, etc. Pandora fits right in there, too, so much so I’m surprised it’s not officially an FC game.
Point is : is this one going to be an Übigame or not?
Currency is a promise. It’s a fiction we all agree to be a part of.
The constant argument by game lawyers that digital goods have value and therefore cloning them is theft, should reinforce this idea that, well, if your DLC and your games have value, then surely those virtual coins also have value. And we can precisely calculate that value, too. How can they argue in good faith that digital goods have value, then the opposite is true when they would have to shell out actual money?
Or can banks suddenly do that, too? Can you imagine if banks decide that no, actually, we are closing those branches and since your money was tied to them, you’re out of luck, too bad. But we are opening new ones, don’t worry, come again!
I think customers are fucking idiots for spending any amount thinking they ain’t getting fucked, mind you. But clearly there is some serious fuckery going on. I hope Europe take the lead on that crap, sooner rather than later, since we seem to be tackling lootboxes…
Billion dollar company is motivated to install a branch in the middle of bumfuck nowhere, is surprised to discover a very well educated workforce, who performs well because they have protective labour laws. The local population gets great salaries (on par with city salaries), because otherwise the talent fuck off to the big cities. The salaries help the local businesses flourish. It’s a win win situation, really.
It’s what happened in Ireland, no reason Scotland couldn’t do the same.
Well that makes sense since marketing’s only job is to build hype, hence expectations, so people buy the stuff. C.f. No Man’s Sky and the resulting disappointment. Or Peter Molyneux’s entire career (pretty much). If you make claims and build expectations then it should be no surprise that you end up being judged on those even more than actual, objectively viewed quality.
Yeah, my net admin colleagues explained that one to me a while back because the bosses were making similar uninformed demands (“this needs to never go down!” “Sure, here is how much that costs”). It was very enlightening :)
Those colleagues are pretty much all quitting now, after their over time calculation has been modified because it was costing the company too much, while for other teams like mine it stayed the same. It’s hilarious seeing the complete panic from the higher ups realizing how badly they fucked up. And I don’t think they actually really realize…
I agree with you about the artistic choice of going for something flatter and more reminiscent of the animated show. Or perhaps of Fortnite, because let’s not kid ourselves, they are aiming for that crowd. But I actually do like that art style! YMMV.
I didn’t care much for them back then, but I sure as fuck tried to bed every single of the ladies that could be!
I’d be sad if there were not as many romance options as the original! At the very least, Shani is bound to be more developed, I guess. That would be nice. I wish they had recognized it a bit more in TW3, but I guess they had no way to recover that from the save files :/ (unlike what they did with some of your choices from TW2)
«il suffit de traverser la rue!» (you just gotta walk across the street!) is the trendy joke in France since one of our elected morons uttered it.
I never really understood the whole “sending hundreds of resumes” thing, so I don’t think it’s quite the end of the world if you have any skills, but these people are demented, thinking it’s that easy. Clearly never lost a job or known involuntary unemployment.
Exactly. Although if my own experience is any indication, they probably did, realized they would have to not use a shitty engine in the first place, then just gave up and tried with what they had.
