Hiya, so this is a problem I’ve run into recently using an image of Project Bluefin, hoping someone here might be able to point me in the right direction of solving this problem....
Are there any other virtual stores on the console? There’s obviously physical store fronts, but I’m pretty sure there’s only the one digitally on console.
I’m experimenting with a 2014 macbook pro upgraded to macOS 14.4 (Sonoma) with OpenCore Legacy Patcher, Linux Mint 21.3 Virginia and Linux Mint 21.3 Xfce....
OP is using OpenCore Legacy Patcher to run an newer OS on an unsupported machine. The option boot menu won’t work, they’d need to get back to the OCLP menu to boot Mac OS.
I see people talking about doas saying it’s just like sudo but with less features. I’m just wondering if there is any situation where you should use doas or if it’s just personal preference.
Ya know, I wish I could at least say something about being european and using commas instead of periods for decimal points, but I can’t even say that. Still 6MB fully installed is nothing these days.
It took some trickery (that I don’t remember) but I was able to get my 3080 laptop to support the ancient unsupported Nvidia GPU with both running their correct drivers. Have you tried fiddling around with updating and rolling back drivers in device manager?
And unless you need the certified drivers (which it sounds like you might not even be able to use) or the extra floating point performance then quadros are a waste of money.
Also from what I can tell modern GeForce and quadros can only drive 4 displays at a time. My ATI 5870 from 2010 can do 6 displays, but for whatever reason they decided that was too many and went back.
Is your battery dead dead? It should work just fine with a 3rd party battery, I’ve never had any machines give me problems with 3rd party ones. It’s only when the battery is below 5% state of charge that it will throttle like that.
(dying at 40% battery, randomly switching off and other similar things). I’m on my third replacement battery, so either I’m really unlucky or there’s something fishy going on
Not unlucky, they’re just garbage 3rd party batteries, and no official 1st party batteries.
That’s assuming that you’re able to google it. Before everyone had a phone in their pocket, and 17 computers lying around if you were stuck in command line with no GUI then you had no option.
The 5090 costing an arm and a leg is fine since it’s the flagship. I just hope the 5080 isn’t actually just half the cores of the 90 just like 40 series has been.
I just hope anything less than the best of the best isn’t an awful value like 40 series has been. And the 5090 costing 2k isn’t gonna make 50% less cores on the $1k 5080 look like a better deal.
I do t play games on console all that often so I’d rather the option to pick up a cheap used copy. Plus I could play that game any number of years down the road when the servers are long shut down. But on PC I just want to click the button and the game installs and opens.
Also the trackpad. Nobody comes close to Apples trackpad drivers. From palm rejection, to gestures, to just simply pointing. Not even Microsoft’s precision track pads can compete.
Usually the wifi chips are broadcom based so they can be really shit on linux, but that obviously depends on the model.
Can it be done? Yes. But compared to Mac OS it’s an awful experience. Thankfully the machine predates the massive trackpad and Touch Bar. But leave the Mac running Mac OS, it’s a far better experience than the half baked Linux support.
And who knows, maybe you’ll like it? It converted me.
Apple’s software (like Xcode) are pretty much the only things that wont be updated.
So that’s just not true.
Laptop runs extremely slow
Source on that? I have an even older 2012 MBP and the latest Mac OS feels just as fast as the very first version it can run.
Everything works great, laptop is at least 3x faster.
That you can easily tell is just 100% made up. Even on old machines Mac OS still runs great on them, it’s one of the best things Apple does for those devices.
What support are you going to get on a 2014 macbook? Zero support.
Not getting updates but everything works flawlessly > god forbid Arch of all things.
I can 100% garuntee you the trackpad (the primary way of interacting with a laptop) will be nowhere near as good as in Mac OS.
It’s a hardware issue not a software issue. If your laptop can run its webcam and not have the light turn on then it’s bad hardware. Software might get around one exploit, but that doesn’t fix what’s a hardware issue.
I got the T460 refurbished and I really didn’t want to run Windows 10 on it. I last used Linux for any real length of time a good 20 years ago, so I’m pretty inexperienced with it at this point and I had to figure out how to install it myself....
It’s not even machine specific. UEFI vs legacy bios boot mode is universally supported in all but the latest systems. If OP had to switch to legacy boot mode then they probably made the USB “incorrectly”. You’d run into the same issue on windows if you made the USB boot drive for legacy bios mode.
Why do you find yourself opting for btop or htop instead of top? What advantages do these tools offer that make them superior to top in your opinion?...
I like htop because it has nice CPU graphs and a good tui for navigating. Top is a bit too obtuse for a new user, especially since CPU time is measured per core and not per the entire CPU. Plus I never figured out how turbo boost plays a roll in those percents.
I haven’t gotten around to messing with btop, but it seems like more of what I like.
Also fuck the “muh bloat” people. I have an i9 and 32 gigs of ram. I don’t care that a monitor util takes 1/10th of a second longer to launch and uses 1MB more of ram.
I’m interviewing for a software dev job currently (it’s in the initial stages). If things work out, I’d absolutely prefer a work laptop with Linux installed (I personally use PopOS but any distro will do), a Mac will be second choice, but I absolutely cannot tolerate Windows, I abhor it, I hate it… (If all computers left...
What is your goal with measuring this? Be aware that power consumption is designed to spike and return low. Most modern laptops won’t run very fast with a dead battery. Even with a high wattage charger because the spikes are too intense. Even with the highest wattage charger.
The average power estimates that hwinfo in windows gets me is pretty accurate, but even it can’t account fully for the spikes. I’m not sure what the best equivalent is for Linux.
I don’t think I’ve ever used hdmi by choice. It’s always been VGA > DVI > DisplayPort. The only times I use HDMI is consoles or stupid monitors either only 1 DP and a bunch of HDMI.
I’ve been experiencing instability with my system, and I’m beginning to suspect that the PSU is either faulty or under-provisioned. I’ll get random crashes (reboots, more specifically), mostly when doing something intensive on the system like starting up a game. Looking at all the crash logs, I can’t really find any...
Try limiting the speeds of your CPU then the GPU and see if the crashing still happens. If you drop the CPU speed and it goes away then something is with your CPU (or memory). If dropping just the GPU stops it then it’s probably the GPU. If you have to drop both and then it’s stable, or dropping either CPU or GPU then it could be the power supply.
It could be the spike in loads that’s causing problems. I tried googling for transient spikes since Nvidia is notorious for it but AMD is better. But they pointed out this.
Also SFX PSUs tend to not have as much capacitance on the output side which could be part of the problem. A higher wattage PSU might not fix the problem, but it could help. But a higher quality one should definitely fix it assuming it’s a PSU problem.
Try running some synthetic tests first for a while and see if it’s stable. I think my PSU is dying from the spikes in load from my 4090. But that’s a 4090.
Just open up 50 chrome tabs, have discord, Spotify and all your other junk running in the background.
That’s why I went with a dual computer setup at home. My gaming PC just runs the game (and monitoring software because I’m a nerd) and my second PC does all the internet browsing/other stuff.
That particular person appears to believe that upscalers, such as like DLSS and FSR, are “basic features”
Do people really like DLSS/FSR that much that they consider it a basic feature? I can’t stand the look of it and I’d rather just run actually at a lower resolution since it ends up looking better.
My qualm is all of the visual artificing I see. Maybe it’s just the games I play, but there are some pretty bad graphical glitches that bother me, and the frame timing is off or something because it makes the game feel less smooth. Part of the smoothness is probably the relatively weak CPU in my laptop. But even on my desktop the frame pacing doesn’t feel the same as native.
I’m talking about software, not hardware. The pocket is magic because it’s open an developers can do whatever they want to it, and there’s a bunch of devs supporting it. This device is open source, but is just a fancy GBC, and the review pointed out that it’s a bit rough around the edges still.
