Why does Gboard replace spaces with characters I add between words?

For example, if I type out a sentence and decide I want to add asterisks around a word for emphasis, why does Gboard replace the space between the previous word and the emphasized word instead of just adding the new character? Is this added functionality for something I just don’t understand?...

marco,

Are you all swiping with Gboard, like I do? How are using it?

It shows up fine, even in incognito mode - it’s only when the link is scraped!?!

Inside the 'arms race' between YouTube and ad blockers (www.engadget.com)

From the article: “In some ways, the current situation has spurred an arms race. YouTube has inadvertently improved ad blockers, as the new knowledge and techniques gained from innovating within the YouTube platform are also applicable to other ad and tracking systems.”

So, as expected, a huge nothing-burger. They had a policy and enforced it in a reasonable way.

For a while I was a bit confused, because Mozilla said they would also implement V3 Manifest …

by implementing Manifest V3 on its own terms, Mozilla saves developers who are switching to the new platform from having to support two different versions of their extensions (for Google Chrome and Firefox) at the same time. On the other hand, it allows content-blocking extensions that were originally built using the less restrictive Manifest V2 to continue working at full tilt.

Six Months Ago NPR Left Twitter. The Effects Have Been Negligible | Nieman Reports (niemanreports.org)

Six months later, we can see that the effects of leaving Twitter have been negligible. A memo circulated to NPR staff says traffic has dropped by only a single percentage point as a result of leaving Twitter, now officially renamed X, though traffic from the platform was small already and accounted for just under two percent of...

I don’t think I have interacted with another person on D4 except for a IRL friend I played with for a little while. I’m back to playing D3 and some PoE.

marco,

I played LE for only about a day based on this post, but yeah, I think I’m with you.

A lot of little things are annoying:

  • Every time you leave an area it resets, even if you use a portal?!?
  • No fast switch between bow and melee weapon
  • You cannot compare a ring in inventory against the ring on your right finger (only left)
  • No feedback that you just clicked on a TP or new area, like nothing happens for a few seconds and then you are transported

World Tier 3 monster kill XP has been buffed by 5%

World Tier 4 monsters kill XP has been buffed by 15%

Also keep in mind this joins a bunch of other XP-boosting patches in the past. Last week, Blizzard also buffed the XP gain urn in Season of the Malignant to go from an 8% XP buff to a 20% XP buff, making seasonal play by far the fastest way to get your characters to the highest levels in the game.

marco,
@marco@beehaw.org avatar

I’m definitely not in the camp that D4 sucks completely, but so far I never kept playing after reaching Tier 2. Thanks to the betas I have done that a few times… I’ve played Diablo 1, 2, & 3 for so many hours, but yes, I haven’t lost hope that D4 will eventually also turn into something that I want to played longer. “Stay a while and listen” ;)

latest poll finds that a little more than one-quarter of Americans (27%) – including 37% of adults under 30 – say that they believe in astrology, or that the position of the stars and planets influences people’s lives. About half of Americans (51%) say they don’t believe in astrology and 22% are unsure.

“Multiple pastors tell me, essentially, the same story about quoting the Sermon on the Mount, parenthetically, in their preaching—‘turn the other cheek’—[and] to have someone come up after to say, ‘Where did you get those liberal talking points?’” Moore said.

“When the pastor would say, ‘I’m literally quoting Jesus Christ’ … The response would be, 'Yes, but that doesn’t work anymore. That’s weak,” he added. “When we get to the point where the teachings of Jesus himself are seen as subversive to us, then we’re in a crisis.”

Workers fired after complaining about company prayer sessions awarded $50K (www.washingtonpost.com)

Every day, employees at Aurora Pro Services, a North Carolina home-repair company, would gather for a mandatory prayer meeting, according to a federal complaint. They stood in a circle while leaders, including the company owner, allegedly read Bible scriptures and prayed. In the circle, the owner required Aurora’s employees to...
