silence7,

There are two different things:

  • the morning-after pill, which delays ovulation.
  • Medications which induce miscarriage, which are used, to say, treat an ectopic pregnancy or otherwise terminate a pregnancy which has already started.

This is a ban on the latter.

silence7,

You’re confusing two different things. The morning-after pill works the way you describe. The combination of mifepristone and misoprostol does not — it can be used until 70 days after the last period.

silence7,

They already did.

silence7,

They’re not useless, but they have an error that can be several points larger than the given margin of error. What this is telling is is that it’s a close election. And that’s a big deal

silence7,

A lot of polls have been putting RFK Jr at 10+ percent. There are a ton of low-information voters who see the name and not much else

silence7,

It’s really hard to support somebody like Kennedy when you know his actual positions, and that they’re driven by the fact that a worm ate part of his brain

silence7,

I’m listening — and when you talk to people, a lot of them don’t know.

silence7,

It’s not ignorant — it’s studied as a method of stirring up anger and resentment in a way that leads to social permission for violence.

Federal judge halts new U.S. rules limiting credit card late fees | Bank lobbyists challenged the legality of the cap, which was set to take effect next week. (wapo.st)

The judge is a Trump appointee.. I’ll also note that he’s in Texas, where the rules against judge-shopping aren’t being applied, so the suit was likely filed with advance knowledge that he’d be hearing it.

made it very clear he thinks of them as an “other” who are unified in their thought process and aligned with Israel.

This is a classic antisemitic trope.

silence7,

You can’t do that unless you hold power though, and that means not just Congress and the Presidency, but also the courts, since they’ve ruled that money is speech. And getting there means actually kicking in money to help elect candidates willing to make that change. (Or paying in both blood and treasure through a revolution, which is a lot less likely)

silence7,

That might help a little, but laws don’t help stop fascism because the Republican judges and prosecutors are all OK with bribery when a Republican does it.

silence7,

Paying for the damage being done is of course the right thing to do.

silence7,

The decision to keep fraudulent books in order to pay off Stormy Daniels via the National Inquirer happened just after the “grab them by the pussy” tape came out, so they’re having testimony about the tap in order to provide context to the jury.

silence7,

What they can do is to make sure billionaires pay what they owe. What they can’t do is set the tax rate. That takes Congress

silence7,
silence7,

We mostly don’t want to do that — billionaires have a much greater ability to pay and are harmed far less by paying more. So it makes sense to have a progressive tax system, where the more you earn, the higher the marginal tax rate.

And you don’t want to allow people to hide personal expenses as business expenses, and the likes, which is where much of the complexity of the tax code comes from.

silence7,

Billionaires can liquidate assets to pay taxes as needed — particularly income taxes, where that’s easy.

silence7,

The point is asking them to pay a higher percentage because they’ve benefitted more from the way society is put together. Not to end all other taxation.

silence7,

They voted to repeal it because they thought that not repealing it would result in stronger abortion rights at the ballot box in November.

silence7,

They use polling to show that many didn’t.
