i am of the seemingly rare opinion that youtube clickbait is far from the worst part of the platform. in this instance there is no misinformation, no harm.

these titles don’t even verge on deception—a dog’s lick DID cause a life threatening infection! dog licks are NOT to be treated as perfectly sanitary! the most extreme result of this is that people start washing their hands, being aware of open wounds around pets, and booking veterinarian appointments more frequently.

this is me voicing my dissent against the moldy posts rule, including restricting them to mondays. unless presented with a very clear set of examples that we can all (or majority) agree on, i think there’s no real utility to the rule and it just makes me afraid to post an image that i find genuinely funny.

on a level of pure aesthetics, it also just has a gross feel and i don’t want to log in on mondays to the word ‘moldy’ all over my feed ☹️

@moss please reconsider this rule or provide more information on the kind of content you intend on removing. i believe this choice to be contra to the spirit of 196.

i just want to point out that, in the same way XMP is not a valid example of EEE, neither is Flipboard a good example of a massive megacorp federating. Flipboard’s algorithms have never incited violence in Myanmar and that makes 100% of the difference.

my concern is not EEE, and I agree that i don’t get why that’s the focus.

my concern is that we are dealing with Meta—an absolutely massive, soulless corporation which has shown dozen upon hundreds of times that it will prioritize the growth of its shareholders’ paycheck well before the afterthought of caring if its algorithms end up wreaking addiction and violence.

call that FUD if you want, i call it learning from well-documented experience.
