I mean, I noticed so many references and what felt like blantant rip offs of classic scenes. I still enjoyed the movie but the constant copying started to get distracting.

That was a really excellent write up, thank you for elaborating. It’s helpful to know the truth of how these companies are acting, and important for consumers to try not to forget. They will continue to take advantage, if we allow it.

This guy is a fucking hero for calling out these companies’ bullshit practices like that. I don’t really care if there’s some misstep about the open source thing. The content that I’ve seen from him is still good in my opinion.
I have been considering replacing my nearly 7 year old iPhone (although very reluctant) and I was checking for options. Interesting. I didn’t have those same reactions, but your reasons are valid. The game kept my interest through the majority of it, though I never did beat it. I definitely just nope’d out of some of the more difficult areas in the game, so I kind of get what you’re saying. For me though, I felt like the mechanics were enough to keep me playing even if the characters weren’t that interesting or whatever.
With Nine Sols so far I’m really enjoying it (I haven’t played that much yet). It is rather difficult though, and I’m not sure how far I’ll get with it before I get burned out on it…
Avenza seems to be the go-to app. It works pretty well and all, but I’m wanting to know if there’s any software available that can allow a team of people to simultaneously access and make edits/notes to a geo-referenced map. It also need to have kind of the same base functionality of being able to show your current location...
This seems like a possible contender. I’m currently giving it a test now just to see what it’s like. I’m fairly new to all this, what do you mean by their geo-stack not being open?
Edit: I’m not sure this one will be able to work after all. I think it probably needs to be mobile focused, and this one seems to want to be used on desktop. I tried uploading a .pdf for a georeferenced map and it just got stuck in the loading process (this could be just because my internet is shit right now). I may give it another try, but for now I might have to keep looking.
The Nuphy’s do seem a little more my speed for style and feel. I like the practical implementations of rgb on those new models you linked to. They’re not much more expensive either.
I wonder why that is. Almost none of the low profile options have rotary encoders. I don’t think a column staggered design would be a good fit for me right now, though I’m sure they’re nice. I may just have to compromise on the encoder, or the low profile. I feel like the low profile might be less important to me.
I hadn’t really considered this, but I think I would want the entire thing to be low profile if I went that route. Not that it wouldn’t work great or anything, but it seems like it might be odd to have low prof. caps on a full thickness board? Maybe I’m just overthinking it.
As it currently stands, I’m considering giving up the volume knob because there doesn’t seem to be any models that fit all of my requirements. Currently leaning towards the Nuphy brand
I didn’t mention it in the description, but I think in my head I was definitely imagining a TKL form factor. Thinking about it though, I probably wouldn’t mind the extra width too much. I think I could manage just fine with it, and the numberpad would be better than the one that’s on my laptop currently (it’s got a single-width zero key instead of double width that I’m used to…)
Yeah, I definitely found their website to be a bit overwhelming. Lol.
Thanks for finding that one for me, it’s going on the list for when I’m ready to pull the trigger.

I would use something like this, but probably not this though. Feels too sneaky somehow, like they’re going to pull the rug out as soon as I get comfortable…

For anyone on the fence, I’d wait a while and read reviews too if you’re thinking about getting an early access copy. The game seems good, but as it’s in early access, it’s still got quite a ways to go for refinements in the gameplay and other things. I do not consider it very playable right now, until the controls are able to be customized, and the game doesn’t run very well right now either (for me, you may have different results on your system).
Recently stumbled upon this note-taking app called SiYuan, but it honestly looks a bit too good to be true(?). Has anyone here used it or got any experience with it? Trying to replace Obsidian is a difficult task, and I’ve been through almost all note-taking apps there are out there, however this one looks fairly similar....
can we talk about how derivative the new aquaman was?
