He did not really step down, it was just a symbolic public gesture. He’s still actively contributing to the project, check the GitHub commits and comments. He just stopped having so many Twitter meltdowns.

The guy you were replying to is saying “People hate GrapheneOS because it requires a Pixel,” they were not saying “everyone in the world should be using a Pixel” as you seem to have mistaken.

You’re getting very fired up and heated in the comments here… maybe take a break?

I can’t believe OP is actually forklift certified

Cloudflare Tunnels are black magic and exactly what you’re looking for:

developers.cloudflare.com/…/connect-networks/

Free, no need to self host a server somewhere externally. Can even be used for SSH!

They also don’t magically make lawyers free. No lawyer is going to bother with an EULA squabble pro bono.

I don’t need or want replication of my private projects to a peer to peer network. That’s just extra bandwidth to and from my server, and bandwidth can be expensive. I already replicate my code to two different places I control, and that’s enough for me.

I’m not sure who Radicle is for, but I don’t think the casual hobbyist looking to self host something like Forgejo would benefit at all from Radicle.

Loading the source code for Radicle on Radicle also seems fairly slow. It seems this distributed nature comes at a speed tradeoff.

With the whole Yuzu thing going on, I can see some benefit to Radicle for high profile projects that may be subject to a takedown. In that respect, it’s a bit like “Tor for Git.”

I suspect that over time, pirate projects and other blatantly illegal activities will make use of Radicle for anti-takedown reasons. But to me, these two projects solve two different problems, for two different audiences, and are not really comparable.

Edit: There is already enough controversy surrounding Radicle, that, if I were someone looking to host a takedown-resistant, anonymous code repository, I would probably be better served hosting an anonymous Forgejo instance on a set of anonymous Njalla domains and VPSes. The blockchain aspect was already a bit odd, and what I’m now seeing from Radicle does not exactly inspire confidence. I don’t think I’ll ever use this.

I’m not talking about that. I’m talking about this:

I agree with the sentiment here, but all the technologies mentioned allowed us to ship a working application in a timely manner. I think that should always be the first goal. Now that this is out of the way, we can start looking at improving efficiency, security, resilience etc.

“Security Second” is not good messaging for a project like this.

But I’m glad my comment was hilarious to you.

I don’t think they were disagreeing with you, I think they were just trying to say:

You shouldn’t need braces to be vertically aligned if your code is uniformly indented. Then you can easily see what code is paired together just by their indentation level.

Of course this is not always true if you’ve got a bunch of crazy nested indentation pushing things off to the right.

I really hope you’ve taken a breather inbetween your internet raging to realize the “violent” aspects of this game are completely optional. It’s tastefully done, and absolutely no different than killing Minecraft cows for food. Are you a vegetarian when you play Minecraft?

If the game wasn’t also low effort slop that’s borderline an asset flip with how many designs they’ve stolen, I’d probably tolerate it more but I’m awestruck so many people are eating this trash up and celebrating it.

If you’re going to parrot stuff you heard off Twitter, the least you can do is verify it for yourself first. The designs aren’t stolen. Did they steal 3D models? No. Are they shamelessly similar? Yes. But that’s allowed, and it’s been a staple of the gaming industry for 30 years. We literally call other genres of shamelessly similar games by the games they copy. Soulslikes. Roguelikes. Metroidvanias.

You clearly haven’t tried this game. It’s not “slop,” it’s high effort, there is a ton of attention to detail, and the success it has gotten is absolutely earned. I’ve never seen an indie game get so much right.

It beat Baldur’s Gate 3 on Steam. It has more players than the 2023 Game of the Year.

Steam is filled with trash low effort games, yes. But are you really so full of yourself that you think Palworld would sell this well if it were just another shovelware title? If it were “slop?” Grow up, please.

And let’s not forget the franchise you’re defending. THIS is slop:

Were you thinking about writing up a little blog post or something about how you did this?

Your AI voice in this sounds pretty natural. Did the AI generate this just via text? Or was it “overlayed” to the original V voice? I’ve never really messed with voice AI before, so learning how you trained it well enough to fit right in with a game would be a pretty interesting read! I’ll even take a TL;DR, I know writing takes a while 😅

Ahhh RVC is the right word for this sort of thing. Thanks! It’s crazy that this was a one day project!

Jitsi, the open-source video conferencing platform, now requires a Google, Microsoft, or Facebook account for their online service (jitsi.org)

While Jitsi is open-source, most people use the platform they provide, meet.jit.si, for immediate conference calls. They have now introduced a “Know Your Customer” policy and require at least one of the attendees to log in with a Facebook, Github (Microsoft), or Google account....

@ubergeek77@lemmy.ubergeek77.chat avatar

Why is everyone up in arms about this? The abuse of their free service was rampant. This isn’t a core project change, this is just a measure to keep a version of the project up for free without completely taking it down. They don’t even have a way to monetize this. An alternative was to simply shut it down and only allow you to self host it.

I self host my Jitsi instance, but as a privacy nut, I don’t see a problem with this. Absolute privacy cannot always coexist with free anonymous services. Don’t blame Jitsi, blame the people who ruined it for everyone else.

CrossCode! Incredible game, probably my favorite game of all time.

It's so much more than it looks. The music is awesome, and in some powerful scenes, the story is driven forward with musical motifs that make the scenes hit that much harder.

The story is just... really good. I teared up a few times.

The characters are beautifully written and extremely memorable. By the end of the game, you really feel like you've been living with them.

People say they don't like the puzzles, but the game comes with difficulty sliders and you can turn down things you don't like.

You can get it on consoles, or, on Steam, and even GOG!

There is a DLC to this game. If you enjoy the game, DON'T SKIP THE DLC!!! It is THE ending to the game! Some might scoff at "oh wow they locked the story behind the DLC," but no, trust me, it is well worth it. It adds a TON of content and is an extremely well put together finale to the epic story told in the game.
